Ok, so I was at Stand By entrance at Rock n Roller Coaster yesterday (Why? Because my life was a rich full f'n oyster yesterday) when a woman comes up and goes into the line. But noticing that her daughter is way under the height requirement (48 inches...the girl was about two-three inches under that), I stopped the two and explained why they couldn't go in.

"Well we've gone in three times today already and no one said anything"

Me-Ok, well apparently someone wasnt doing their job. For the safety of YOUR child, I cannot allow her inside.

"But we've gone through-"

Me-Madam that's fine. But that was then. I am here at this spot right now and for the safety of your child I cannot allow you inside this building with her. (And yes, I did cut her off)

WHATEVER (And so she stormed off)

Later on that day

"Hey man can you get a manager down here to stand by, we have a height situation"

(I was at launch base at the time) Let me guess, medium to heavey set woman, daughter wearing an orange and white shirt?

"Yeah"

Ill get someone down there ASAP (Meanwhile I heard the woman SCREAMING over my buddie down at stand by )"Dude, Im sorry man, I had to deal with her before")

So later over the radio I hear a call go to guest relations talking about the situation. Apparently it was solved....yeah right.

Later that night I glance over at the monitor at merge as Im walking towards the stand by area and notice that the woman and her daughter have gotten inside. So I snatch the phone and get a hold of launch base and litterally say "THERE IS A WOMAN WITH A DAUGHTER WEARING A ORANGE AND WHITE SHIRT GOING INTO STUDIO C, GET THEM OUT OF THIS BUILDING NOW!"

So I casually walk towards the exit of the gift shop and just wait for the two to be escourted out...when they do, I just glance over at them and smile....
-------------
This happened a few weeks ago (Forgot if I mentioned this in another post so...) On just a "For the love of God" line, we had a bit of a back up inside the Studio C area, so I had to stop the merge line for a bit. In stand by there is a girl who was born with like three silver spoons in her mouth. When from her mouth I heard the dumbest lines EVER.
"I hate Roller coasters, I hate Aerosmith and I hate standing in line"

This guy in the fast pass line and I exchange looks and he laughs, from my spot I lean over and say "So what part of Rock n ROLLER COASTER STARRING AEROSMITH didn't you really get there sweetheart?"

Course the guy started busting a gut and even the MOTHER had to hold back her laughter.
----
Speaking of funny, I heard the greatest line ever.
Woman was getting off the coaster today and she said (Jokingly) Oh look, another gift shop. When her husband said "What are you talking about, Disney is nothing but a giant gift shop with a bunch of rides built around them

Yesterday when I was in Ganster I saw this lady in the back row of the vechile that decided it was necessary to stand up on the ride. My coordinator decided to say something to this lady. Then when we went into the next scene she just decided to do it again, so I e-stopped the ride. She lost her footing. Needless to say she sat down durring the entire ride.

Also Indy on another note John who was sunset 3 a couple of days ago said that I should do your height situations when I was gangster and bandit because I'm armed and the guest may listen.

reminds me of the other day at indy, some girl, probly 43 inches, snuck in the line behind by her mother (probly had been pulling shit like that all day, at other attractions.) Soo the other guy happened to turn around at right about the same time she was sneaking, and puled her out of the line, we measured her and she was at least 3 inches too short, so mom freaks out immedaitly (i can only assume that she's embarassed about being caught cheeting.) "mommy why can't i go on"
"because the MEAN MEN won't let you on 'cause you're a FRACTION OF A MILIMETER too short" so it yell back, MORE Like three inches but you'll grow fast! as mom is draggin her away at the speed of angry. so her party was like what the hell is she doing, and runs off after her.

all i can think is yeah, do you know how many people today i sent away b/c thier kid really was a fraction of a milimeter too short, that DIDN'T complain? yeah get ovre it, say 100 dollars to go to a park with you're daughter where she meets the height for pretty much any other attraction, or, the hospital bill worth thousands, b/c you insisted your kid go on a ride not designed to keep her safe....

Tee. Height situations are about to get a lot more fun...Why?

Well because in any attraction that has a height requirement, the rider must be over 7 or 54 inches tall to ride by themselves...something like that. Its going universal at WDW (Magic Kingdom was the lab rat), not sure about DL....but in lamence terms, things are about to get a lot worse for those situations.

we Have that at steam trains, and we're probly going to go park wide with it, i thought we had it at indy, but, i don't see any markers so if we do i don't have any way of telling. so i figure if they're 7 and 46 inches, they're good to go.

Yeah, I think it's going park wide, if it's not already. It might not be at Indy, cause there's probably very few, if any six year olds tall enough for Indy.

Ok. So, Im at FP distribution but the situation was down at merge. The girl at Standby had to go up and help so I took over for her for a bit. She comes back and says "Im not dealing with that"

So I walk up there and see a father yelling at the girl at merge (Different one). Ok, lemmie tell you something, you can yell at a female, but not while I'm around. Needless to say I gave the "Ill handle it" look to her and jumped in.

"SIR! I'll ask that you not yell at her! What is the problem?"

"They wont let her on the ride" (Girl is OBVIOUSLY under the height requirement, and even a person with the IQ of a gerbil could see this).

"She doesnt meet the height requirement, sir"

"No one check her at any other ride" (Note, RRC is the highest height requirement at the resort at 48 inches).

"We can't let her on sir"

"That's not acceptable, I want her on this ride"

*Sigh* "Go ahead and call C1" (And I began to walk away, find out like a min later C1 cant get there right away, perfect).

Then I over hear the guy say "Im going to stand here for one hour and watch you check every person that comes through here."

(Ok, so I lost my cool with this asshole at this point). NO will not! We have a job to do and you are keeping us from doing it! Ruin the magic for you? I dont care. But you are about two seconds away from me calling 1990! And you dont want that to happen, ecspecally from me! Now please leave!

I walked off back to my spot and found later the guy had just stormed off.

Look I understand a few situations, but one yelling at a female around me is one way to get a trip to the ER (And Im not joking around on that comment) and two the way the guy was (Which words cant express) acting, I just did what I did when I taught school, intimidation, which I am very good at.

Makes me so glad I don't work a ride with a hieght requirement. Only one attration in my area has a hieght requirement (Splash). But there is the unspoken 54" rule at Disneyland. I've had to prevent various small children from riding Pooh because A. They were not 54" tall or 7 years of age or B. They weren't accompanied by a 16 year old or older. Same applies at Mansion but usually small children don't go there by themselves.

Same ruls apply for Astro Orbitor. Children have to be at least 7 to go by themselves, or must be accompanied by someone 16 years of age or older or someone 54" tall or taller. Why?? I do not know, I just work here. I don't make the rules, I follow them. One question I have is why someone 16 years of age and older?

Well they assume that height is relative to their age and in most cases they're right. They want small children accompanied by someone at least somewhat responsible. You know to keep them from undoing their seatbelt and standing up or something like that.

a six year old is still in that stage of life where they are still learning, and doing so by trial and error, so they're more liable to try stuff that a 7 year old would just assume doesn't exist. The height thing is also relavent, if a 6yr old is 54" then they've been growing quick, so it would be safe to assume that they're mind is growing at the same rate of speed, i mean think about it, that's a tall six year old.

I work at an attraction that has no height requirement and how are we supposed to enforce the 54" requirement. We have no markers anywhere that would say if somebody is 54", are we supposed to guess?

i just ask if they're at least 7 years old, if they meet the requirement at indy, and they didn't chicken out in the line alone, they're good to go.

Dont do that. Simple enough for a parent to just say "Yes he/she is 7" or for the kid to lie to you (Under the parents influence to do so)

Its better to ask "How old are you?" That way they wont have anything to work off of.

*Also this will actually start showing up in OGs world-wide so if any of you ops CMs out there aren't used to asking the question, start getting ready to because the change should be done by the end of the year.

that's all well and good but i'm usually at grouper, and the kid is alone, a newborn can ride if they're 46 inches. i never direct questions at parents, they don't know what they're talking about, it's the kids who are useful.

If they say there are at least 7 years old, let them go, but if anything happens to them, say that the parents lied to you that they were 7 and you can't get in to trouble for that, you were lied to.

I work turnstyles, and kids that are under 3 get in free. I've seen some VERY tall 2 year olds come through my gate. One of my favorites is when I ask a parent how old their child is, and they say "2", but the kid is holding up 5 fingers. Asking the parents to explain that one usually results in some interesting answers. "They're just confused" or "She's only a baby, she doesn't know what she's talking about" or "Well, he doesn't look like he's five".

Sorry, no dice.

I think if the "Must be 7 to ride" rule goes property-wide, then you'll suddenly have a lot of people with some very young looking 7 yr olds.

Some woman insisted that her daughter was tall enough to go, and had been three times before, and the girl was clearly not tall enough to go on, even on her tip toes. So this woman is disputing it with the greeter CM, and i'm coming down the ramp to see if validater or greeter wants to take the rotation to rotunda instead of me. so the woman looks at me, i look at the kid, and i just shake my head. the CM takes rotation to rotunda for me.

I'm thinking to myself i bet that woman is going to try and come back later, so i go up to give the validater heads up, and low and behold they're back, not even a minute later. So i looked her right in the eye and told her "Miss DO NOT do that, Don't go to another Cast Member and try it with them, that's LOW. I told you she was too short, and the other CM told you she was too short, I Saw it, and if she really has been on fore [watch this i quote indy} someone wasn't doing their job. She's too short and she isn't going on this Atrraction today, Please DO NOT try agian today."

"she's been on three times before this is..."

"... Then someone did their job wrong three times, and i'm sorry for that, but she won't be riding today thank you." and she left

wish you woulda worked with me at Park Greeter at MK (WDW) I remember on 4th of July (following a bomb threat so we only had one side of the frount entrance open) the systems crashing so horribly that the arms on the turnstiles all collapsed and anyone who could over power me could push through... I remember we were stamping tickets (what we do when the system crashes) and trying to keep count on that stupid clicker... anyway our lines got HORRIBLE long.. I remember telling all of my people "so sorry about your wait in line, the systems are down so it's taking a lot longer.." and crap like that and this a$$hole comes up and I remember him cussing me out and yelling at me so badly he made me cry on stage :( . I remember after he left the lady standing behind him just sorta stood there and she looked at me and told me not to worry that guy was just an asshole and that we were doing a fine job due to circumstances of systems being down. She made me feel alot better but I woulda loved someone to stand up for me. That was the most horrible day I've ever had at MK

Y'know...I've only been in a few situations like that with angry guests, but I wonder what would happen if you turned it around on them. Instead of them creating a scene hoping to embarass you until you cooperate and give into their demands, you create an even bigger scene by completely breaking down (crying as loud as you can and looking like a miserable mess) until they leave in fear of being sacked by other guests coming to your rescue. Once the agitators are gone, you can turn to the rest of the guests in line, take a bow and say "TA-DA! ACTING! Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!"
Who knows, you might even get real applause! :D
