The Castle

I was aimlessly standing out in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle this morning, which by the way, if you haven't learned it yet...NEVER stand aimlessly near anything that is in refurbishment if you can help it. The stupid question/bitchy guest ratio will increase tenfold if you do...it's the reason why I never walk down Thunder Trail when the park is open anymore. But I digress.

I was doing good for a while with only a few annoying refurbishment related issues, and then I got that one random guest that you get every so often that causes you to go :shock:.

Guest: <points at castle> So, is this closed?
Me: Yep it's in refurbishment for the next few months.
Guest: So, what is it?
Me: This is Sleeping Beauty Castle
Guest: Is it like medieval or something? Is it like It's A Small World?
Me: Um, no, it's the castle...the icon for Disneyland...
Guest: Oh, so it's not a ride?
Me: No...
Guest: Oh, OK, thanks. <turns and leaves>

Now, there's a lot of things about the park that I don't expect first-timers to know. But not knowing about the castle? The castle has been on every piece of park promotional material since the dawn of time. Disneyland and Castle go together like Eisner and greed. Kids in third world countries that don't know where their next meal will come from know that Disneyland has a castle. Need I go on? Unless you've been hiding under a rock for 49 years you have no excuse not knowing that Disneyland has a castle.

What's the point of fumigating it? The little biatch (sorry to all Tinkerbell fans) still flies over it, and since she's known to drop dust as she flies, um ... it's would be superfluous if that were the case. But how long would it take for the guest to figure that out?

I was doing Pooh GC out in front of pirates (which is a real pain tell me). This guy comes up to me and asks why pirates and mansion aren't using fast pass. I told him that we found the lines were quicker with out it. He goes on to practically blame me for the fact that the castle was closed, as is Space, Thunder, Tiki.... I told him we post our referb schedule on the resort website. He then yelled saying we should referb in the winter. I told him we are Matterhorn and Splash go down then. He then stormed off, then my lead ERed me I booked it home.

YEAH, it's YOUR fault that the castle is closed. You KNEW that he was coming so you told the Imagineers to close it just cuz HE was coming! :? Yeah, right!

What I hate is when they go to like two rides in a row that are closed (not for rehab, but just down for the time being) you're the second one they go to and they're like 'everything's closed today' Me I start listing rides that are open. :twisted:

I hate that when you're 101 and so is something like Indy. Mansion was 101 for a supicious package a few weeks back, the 10:30 Fantasmic! show was starting and people where like "Is there anything open?!?!" (To make matters worse it was the 17th of July) I said yes everything is, I was then informed Indy was down and I think possibly splash. I appologised only to hear the snide remark of a guest "They just closed early and are blaming it on technical dificulties"

If we had closed early there would not have been 7 cast members outside the mansion attempting to hold a perimeter, we would have gone home.

That would be Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom in Florida. All 197 feet of it!

Now when I visit Disneyland, it feels like "Honey I Shrunk the Castle."

Yeah, I know which castle they mean. But I can't believe that people would travel to visit a place that they know nothing about. It's like most of the guests just wake up one day and go, "Let's go to Disney____!" and they fill in the blank with either Land or World and they just assume it's all the same and they fly there and then expect both parks to be exactly equal.

I was doing guest control on the parade route once and during the second cross over in the parade, this lady walks across the street with her hubby completely unaware that her two kids aged 12 and 17 are stopping to watch the parade. So, the cross ends and i see her start yelling at my castodial castmember responsable for the gate at hub west. HEr kids didnt make it across of course and shes doing her darndest to get across the street thru the parade. The other castmember struggled to stand her ground so i figure, walk over and help her. BIG MISTAKE I walk up there and tell her for her saftey she cannot cross and that the parade will be over momentarily and her kids will be able to cross then. She goes on to tell me that i am resposable, that i am taking and attitude with her, that her kids are minors and cant be left alone (at age 12 and 17 mind you) and that i am a racist. (she was hispanic...i am white) Either way, she then proceedes to pull my hair out of the way in order to get my name and then tells me shes going to write me up. I ask my lead to come over and she says that its all ok. That the lady insisted going to city hall wasnt enough so she was going to write a letter to the company. LOL!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder when the castle rehab is said and done, if my dad is going to think it shrunk somemore. Back in 95, we went to DL the first time in 5 years, and my dad SWEARS the castle was reducded in height...and he claims this about after our 2nd visit to WDW.

If anyone noticed the top scafolding on the castle has been removed and you can see the new paint job. I was just wondering what people thought of it. I like the blue shingles but I'm not to keen on the gold it's almost like it's too yellow, it makes it look to fake. but I dunno that might just be me.

Sorry, no offense intended. I grew up with Sleeping Beauty Castle, visiting it first in 1958. It's just that I've been east so long that going west now has a sort of "Twilight Zone" parallel universe sort of thing going on. I look up Disneyland's Main Street from Town Square ... and nothing's there!

Sounds like the same unsettling fealing I had when I visited the MK. So much was the same, and yet so much was completely different. Very Twilight Zone indeed.

hmmm.. I took a quick look at it Wednesday evening when we meandered through for orientation.. but I'll need to look more closely next time. From the little I got to see I thought it was pretty. I'm going to try and keep an open mind, because I honestly don't think anything could look worse than the MK birthday cake castle.. eep! :shock:

Anyway, aren't they going to be spotlighting/green screening different things on the castle? I think that the colors need to be attractive and fanciful, but not detract from the ability to do what they want with it for the 50th next year..

Even now with more of the castle revealed I still think that it looks kind of tacky. I like the new blue/green shingles but thats really about it. I dunno I'm the kind of person who likes bright things but I really don't like the colors they chose. And I'm not sure I wanna see it with the crowns and banners.... talk about gaudy....

Naw, they scraped off all the pink before repainting. Took forever, but thank goodness they did. The Cast Corrections Committee was spending a fortune trying to round up enough C4 to fix it the old fashioned way.

From the concept art I've seen, the SB colors aren't a fraction as code V-inducing as the Pepto Pink Castle.

Now, if only we could get some Acme Invisible Paint for the BAH and Epco-sparklie....

It's really hard to look at. I saw it around 2 for the first time in weeks, and the sun reflecting off the tower hurt my eyes!

Well as of this morning, more was uncovered showing the lower set of stained glass window and the Disney crest. But by about 12:30 the whole right side was naked.

Well, Disneyland is finished because they are now building things on the cheep. Many times they use compaines for parts on attractions that go out of business shortly after they make that part.

i hate to say it, but maybe it's time for it to be finished, i mean, we're running out of places to put things... it would be really hott to keep it going forever, but come on, the city of anacrime is pretty much kept alive by disney, i imagine, then agian, there are other parts of the park that are yet unfinished, perhaps we could sign a petition and have it delivered to Matt Ouimet, asking for the spire to be unfinished, because Disenyland will nevre be finished making Magical memories, not until long after the park is done.

The covered the spire but they left two of the towers unplated (they're kinda brown...oxidized copper looking) so the castle still isn't finished therefore disneyland isn't finished

10-4 i was scared that we were done for, but tomorrowland isn't finished, so we could paint it, but from that point on, we'd alway have to start one project before we finished the last.
