View Full Version : Dont Stand On My Cart!

Happened a little while back. I was working a cart near World of Color. As per usual, throngs of guests were preparing to cram in to the show area. Except for the folks who either thought it was too much work or didn't know about the FastPass situation.

So it got really crowded. Like, more crowded than its been usually by my cart. So I had to start nicely asking people to move...because they were leaning on my cart, opening the lids to see what was inside...you know. And I was getting a little worried about the people opening my lids.

So, after finally getting a *little* room around my cart in case people wanted to buy from me...the show starts. And again, some folks decide to start leaning on my carts. I turn around and kindly ask them to move, and they do. I turn back around and there's a 12-14 year old *standing* yes STANDING on top of my cart.

My first thoughts were "WTF, GET OFF OF THERE! Who on EARTH told you that was a good idea!? Get down now!" But, I managed to kindly ask the boy to come down of the cart because I didn't want to see him get hurt. His parents gave me dirty looks and muttered about how they couldn't see the show now that I had him get off the cart...So much for safety first!:eek:

Yes, I can believe it!Jr.should never be told NO, it might damage his self-esteem! I'm sure there will be a complaint to City Hall because you "ruined their Magic" you big Meanie!:rolleyes:

Asked a Security Guard to have lil miss Princess to not literally climb the wall at our clinic (she was wedging herself between two walls and leaning against a glass window about 8 feet up)Security Guard just shrugged his shoulders-guess it is a bad idea to incur Parent's Wrath:cool:

^ See that platform in the yellow circle? The one that's blocked by a fence because it's on open water?

Yeah, some dad put his two toddlers on that little platform and let them run/crawl around on it. Okay, there's stupid, and then theres stuuuuupid. All sorts of bad things could've happened right then and there. He was taking pictures, turning his back to the kids, talking on his cell phone. Then, he had them come down off the platform and they went to go run around the viewing area.

I was in total shock to what I just witnessed. Ugh.

I don't. I used to, then I started working at Disneyland and it seems almost every day something happens that I previously wouldn't have believed I'd ever see. And I lose a little more faith in humanity.

And, of course, if one (or both) of them fell in he would have sued Disney for various things, including not having a lifeguard on duty.

I saw a very young girl do that in the Winnie the Pooh ride queue some years ago. She had to go to the bathroom, so her mother stood her up on the elevated planter, and they girl went pee-pee. It was all done very discreetly though.

At Fantasmic, we only had standing room left, so some lady asked me if she could set her child on top of a trash can to see the show. I said no. In the middle of the show they set the child on top of a concrete wall which I told them 3 times to take it down, but they wouldn't listen.

They probably thought Disney had some type of force field or net to be able to catch people from falling off the platform into the water.

Wait, that's real water? I thought it was part of the magical illusion that Disney creates.

LOL, funniest thing I ever heard a CM say was on StorybookLand to an SG... "Real boats, real water, folks."

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it is real and in fact, it likely is. We have one on the Storybook dock and on the Casey dock. Any other places I know of with water it isn't deep enough to need one and they're both in pretty plain sight if you look, so yeah, I bet it is real.

I'm pretty certain that all life preservers near waterways at Disney are real. They are put there for safety's sake. Part of the safety E-Learnings I've had to take includes the proper use of life preservers even though I don't work anywhere where there are life preservers. I believe all CMs have to take that course.

Small = 1.5 ounces
Medium = 3.0 ounces
Large = 6.0 ounces
Darph/Ktulu = You don't want to know...

The top safe speed depends on the method of achieving that speed and the relative location of the consumer to the controls.

According to the second story, that would be dead slow! It's taking twice as long as planned to get from the port to the brewery, due to all the power lines and even traffic lights that must be moved to let them pass.

And I can't stand parade time at IC5 (the one by Small World) because it means that stupid guests either sit behind my cart or directly in front of it.

If there is a hot foods cart, why is it that the parents let their kids climb on the wheels? # 3 has wheels, if you make billy climb on the cart, believe me, that cart might end billy up in a body cast. Also, I have seen stupid teens try to touch the ice displays while the CM's are slowly coming out into the park. Where are the paper knives?

And I can't stand parade time at IC5 (the one by Small World) because it means that stupid guests either sit behind my cart or directly in front of it.

Well, parades aren't a problem for the time being, since there are none. I haven't had people try and stand/sit on my cart whilst in transit, but I have people who will follow WAY too closely. Every time I have to adjust speed or slow down quickly (I try not to hit the E-Stop onstage unless I REALLY have to), I always check behind to make sure nobody goes "THUD" into my cart....especially the ones who text and walk right behind me. It's worse when an ECV follows too closely. I've had a hit and run with an ECV. ECV rear ended me, and took off!:eek:

The biggest problems I deal with while moving a cart is 1) people who try to steal things off the cart because they think they're slick (and I always catch them, because they most certainly are NOT slick, just because I'm driving a cart doesn't mean I can't see you :rolleyes:) and 2) people who swear up and down they can clear my cart by squeezing inbetween my cart and some other immovable object (wall, rock, etc) and losing. They never hang around long enough for me to even ask them if they're okay, they run away from me...probably in embarrassment!

Remember how they say in the parking lot that Disney Vehicles have the Right of Way? Guess what, its the same rule in the parks, and those carts are vehicles.:p:

One of my all time favorite Disney moments was when I was standing in line for Big Thunder and the CM came on the loudspeaker and in a long suffering, slightly baffled voice said, "If, while standing in line you happen to look around and discover that you have climbed into one of our planters, please get out, because... you're standing in a planter."

It was polite, and gentle and you could just tell his inner voice was anything but.

Oh geez, the other day at Tomorrowland Terrace, I saw a lady standing on a chair to watch the Jedi Training Academy and I had to tell her to get off because it was for her safety (and C-3PO clearly stated MULTIPLE times that "there is to be no standing on chairs. None at all!"). She then had the gall to ask me if she could stand on the wall, which was even higher than the chair. :confused: Is the word "safety" a foreign word to English speakers now?

No, of course you can stand on that wall! Why fall 1.5 feet when you can fall 5! :) Gravity's awesome!

It is like billy is sitting on the railing over looking the drop on Splash Mountain.
The ride might look cool from there, but if you fall off and hit a log at the same time, billy will be in a body bag. Think twice folks. Safety is #1.
