It was recently announced that the Disneyland Resort WILL NOT open on
May 4, 2005 in order to prep for the 50th kick off which starts the
following day. How much you wanna bet that City Hall will be flooded with
complaints from dumb guests claiming "they came all the way from
_______" to come here and we were closed.

I thought that there was a newsletter about the 50th that said the park
would be closed that one day. I remember because the crew was saying
we should do something that day. Only DCA was going to be open.

It's true, they are going to close the park on May 4th to get everything
ready for the 50th celebration.

I stand corrected, I called the vacation planning center and confirmed.

Talk about Wally World. I can see a guest being pissed off, and in this
case I wouldn't blame them. Espically if you only had one day, and it was
that one day to go to DLR, and you wanted to go to Disneyland.
There is no real reason that the park needs to be closed. In this one
case I can see the "We came all the way from ... To go to Disneyland.
And you we are closed work because Disneyland hasn't closed just to
close. Only for an emergency situation.

If somebody is coming from somewhere far away to go to Disneyland,
they should get at least a little information from a website or a vacation
company or something. Any and all of those places will tell the person it's
closed, and this is almost a year in advance, it's not like they just
suddenly decided to close it. Hopefully whatever they do in that day it's
closed is actually something spectacular and not just another lame throw
together.

But if anybody actually did that, this website wouldn't exist. Let's face it,
many people are dumb, and they will just assume that the park is open
since it has been open almost every other day. Nevermind the fact that
we know now on June 30, 2004, that the park will be closed one day in
May 2005.
Nevermind the fact that on the park tickets it states that attractions may
close without notice, and whenever an attraction goes down for rehab the
guests complain so much. And how often is it posted 6 months to a year
in advance. Almost always ... the guests like to complain, and this will
just give them a reason to complain, and most likely Disney will give the
guests a free ticket just because they are closed.
Also I've lost so much faith in Disney that I feel that they will probably
just throw something togher on the day the park is closed and say "Look
at how much money we saved."

Coldfire's right. But at least on this day there will be nobody to complain to.

Sure there will be. The poor souls who will have to work the ticket
counters selling tickets for DCA. The information desk / Guest Services at
DCA. Even the security guards at the Esplanade.
This day is going to be a mess of guest tricks. I'm sure there will be
dozens if not hundreds of stories about a person or family who went
insane because the park was closed.
I've had people insist that DL park is open 24/7, that there is no "closing
time" ... anyone ever run into that? Then they get all upset when the
closing spiel runs and they're asked to leave.

Oh yea there is another park. Brain Fart.

Got that right! People who come up to me on Main Street and ask, "What
is there to do here?" really need a good hard whack with the clue stick.
Also I've lost so much faith in Disney that I feel that they will probably
just throw something togher on the day the park is closed and say "Look
at how much money we saved."
As one old flamethrower once put it, "It would be a hell of a lot cheaper if
we didn't build it at all!!!"
Don't worry, TDA won't take that advice -- it's a quote from Walt.

I dunno if it's been pointed out yet that the date of the whole 50th
anniversary kickoff thing will be 05/05/05. And 05 is 50 backwards.
Coincidence?

I remember when Space Mountain closed. I was in the park at the time. Because it closed early I went over to ride it not knowing it was going to be closed. Anyway when I got there the CM's said it might open later so I returned later and it was still closed. At the time I didn't know that it would be closed anyway, but I didn't complain because I know that these things happen. I wonder how many complaints there were for that one.

That sounds like a simple 101. Not necessarly the most pretty situation, but it was probably something mechanical. Sometimes if it's near the end of the night it will just close early anyways because they cannot get it 102 before the park closes, but if they can get it open 1 min before the park closes then they will reopen it.

Kinda interesting how Disney can have little coincidences like that.
Same principle for Tower of Terror being 13 stories, and the Resort's address is 1313 :)
