Why is it when you tell a guest "No Flash Photgraphy Please", they say "OK" with a glazed over look in their eyes and pull out their cameras and start taking photos? EEERRR! ~_~

Well, when I'm working Gangster I have a way to get the guests to stop most of the time when leaving my pistol in my holster. I just tell them that if they don't knock off the flash pictures then I'm going to have to take them swimming with some cement shoes.

Usually they stop.

i don't know if you're steam trains go through a Diarama at wdw, ie grand canyon w/ dinosaurs, but that's the only no flash area of the ride here in anaheim, so what do people do when i tell them to stop with the flash photos, they take more, i swear it's a group effort, to piss me off, one of these days i'm going to burst, and this how the speal is going to go:

"Congratulations to those of you taking flash pictures, you've managed to accomplish several taskes at once, the first: wasting film, yest that's right, we've put up some glass pannels in the primeveil world to avoid dino attacks! Second, you've managed to detract from everyone elses experience, not only can they no longer see because of the glow, they now have to listen to meee! Third: you've blinded me, jeopordizing the safety of everyliving thing on this ride, including yourself, any friends, family, or guide dogs in you're party, as well as the two or three hundred other guests on the train, both the engineer, and the fireman, and you're two conductors. If i am blinded, i will not be able to stop the train, evacuate you, notify you/anyone else, or help you in any other way."

i should stop the train when guest become flash happy, and since it's usually confined to one car, i should inform all guests on that car that they must exit at the next stop, due to behavioral issues eminating from the area. it's that or miss a 904 because i'm blind and we all burn to death.

I was on Star Wars one day, when a lady decides that by-golly she was going to video tape the experience. Half way thru the CM notices that the woman is video taping and comes over the intercom saying that there would be no video taping, woman continues to do it, so after a few more words over the intercom, the CM decdies to E-Stop the ride. So we are stuck at a weird angle and the lights are on, and by-golly that lady is STILL VIDEO TAPING! HELLO not part of the ride. They finally reset the ride, the doors pop open, CM comes down the hall, goes right to the lady's face was like NO VIDEO TAPING! Still doing it, okay come to the conclusion no speaky english. Finally I think one member of the lady's party who knew english told her to put it away. Why the other member of her party couldn't tell her that the first time the CM said something was beyond me. And that was the day I got to ride Star Tours 1.5 times!

My b/f and I were in queue for Mansion, along w/ a couple other teenage girls (among the group in the elevator). These girls were among those that knew the spiel. Reciting what is being said, all that. . . The ended up being 2 doombuggies in front of us. Sure enough, those nerds were still taking flash pictures!

why is it that when someone in the party knows how to translate, they don't, ugh, i had to stop a train for a mom who didn't think to translate to her kid (mind you the front conductor spoke the native langauge fluently, and spealed in it) the fact that he needed to be seated. we have the no disco dancing signs for a reason, and we asked the parents of all children to make sure that if their kid was standing on the train to get them not standing. and the flash pictures during that part are no good as well, Did you know that if you put youre Finger over a flashbar, it doesnt' do much good? I let the dude get away with it because he spoke english, and he was trying real hard, and i was already having the Saddest Kwanza ever... (inside joke, it was also pencil eraser day, and today is actualy St Partrick's Day, and so far a very happy one.)

Even though this happened last week in Disneyland, I figured I'd do better to post about it in this thread since it's dead on topic. :D

As I told Stduck when I met her at Haunted Mansion Holiday, the second time I went on Pirates Of The Carribean this past week I finally managed to find out what happens when a guest dares for whatever reason to not heed the "no flash" rule.

I was in the very back of my boat. It was just passing the dog with the keys, and suddenly a lady two seat rows in front of me pulls out her camera and immediately snaps a picture of the dog. I was startled by the flash as I had never seen anyone take a snapshot on a ride before, and then I could have sworn that the boat was actually stopped for a moment (that might have just been my imagination, but it sure felt like it). A voice BOOMS out of nowhere, "NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY."

The lady in the front immediately crouches in guilt, and while I was just sort of shaking my head to myself at the fact that she had tried it, I couldn't help feeling just a little bit sorry for her because it was obvious even in the dim light that she was sorry and felt bad about breaking a rule.

Even so, I was glad it wasn't me who had attempted it! Especially since I'm pretty sure that there might even be important safety reasons behind why no flash photography is allowed. I've never liked "behind the scenes" books and articles and things like that, so I wouldn't know if that's the case for sure. But as far as I'm concerned, rules are rules and they're there for a reason no matter what it might be! ;)

I always assumed the rule was there so some folks wouldn't ruin the show for others by creating a distraction. That's why generally I don't take on-ride flash photography. :)

To the extent that it's safety-related, it may just be that in a dark ride the flash is blinding. But I've always thought it was more a show-related rule -- not just because it's a distraction, but it blinds other guests, and the flash may reveal ride elements that are meant to be hidden by the dark.

Yeah, it sure blinded me! As mentioned, I was really startled as I've just never expected to be on the ride while someone attempted to do it.

well on trains it is a saftey thing because that flash comes off the umm... time portal... and blinds the conductor, and probly get's a good picture of them going like this :shock: (Zazu, feel free to edit one of your more approriate simles in there)...

... as for BOOMING over the loudspeaker, there's no in the middle with those, it's yell, or not be heard.

One day I was Fastpass Merge Point at Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, right next to the loud AAT Buzz Lightyear. Guests often like to stop and take photos in front of Buzz, which clogs up the line and backing up both the Fastpass and Stand-by lines. Plus they don't seem to realize that Buzz's head is inside a clear plastic helmet and his face it is a LCD screen that is moving at 30FPS. So if they take a flash photo, they get a reflection of camera flash on the helmet or/and great shot of buzz without his face. If they don't use a flash, they get a blurry photo of only buzz's face. Plus we have to push as many people as we can through that area to get the Fastpass cleared out and keep the Stand-by line moving at an acceptable pace. I have a very loud spiel that I say; "Please no photography of any kind or time, please move as quickly as possible, the galaxy is in great peril, Space Rangers. So please do not stop but continue moving all down into the next room where you can board the Space Cruisers" Then I watch people who are holding cameras getting ready for their chance to clog the line and take a photo with Buzz. I then advise them personally “PLEASE NO PHOTOGRAPHY PLEASE!” I told a lady very politely that was about to take a photo of Buzz with her camera in her hand. “There is no flash photography.” So she handed the camera to her husband and he took the photo!?! “NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY” what part of that means “You can’t take a photo but your husband standing right behind you can”? Unbelievable

Yeah I'm at star tours and I wonder if saying "any flash photography will make chewbacca and everyone else on board pissed, and we don't want to get chewbacca pissed now do we" as part of my speil would be appropriate? Hey its themed phrashing ;) Then again 70% of the guests probably don't even know that chewbacca is the character in the loading video who gets a flash in their face, hell 80% of the guests don't even know what "A galaxy far far away" is from.

when this was okay to do, we at the mansion would stop the ride until they would stop, and if they continued to do so we would pull them off the ride and tell them not to come back to the ride for the rest of the day. sometimes we would lie and say that we were gonna tell all the other attractions around that area what they looked like and keep a close eye on them. ha ha ha.

My own take on it. "Flash Photography will anger the wookie. If you don't want to see Chewbacca when he's really angry, please remember, no flash photography. Let the wookie win."
