has anyone ever done photo edit and seen some of the "fun" things that
guests do on attractions that we have to trash?
few examples from the time i flew to RNR in the studios:
1) flashing
2) double bird
3) people trying to VIDEO their whole experience on RNR (hello loops,
you won't get the camcorder back, and if you do it'll be in many pieces)---
we don't have to trash this however
***after guests do obsene things like this (ex. flash) they get pissed
when their picture doesn't come up on the screen and sometimes yell and
complain***

A long time ago I was at the edit room at Splash and saw a guy flip off
the camera with both hands wearing Mickey Mouse gloves. Got rid of his
photo right away. This happened near the end of my edit room shift and
when I got back to the shop I saw the guy and he had the nerve to ask
me why his photo was gone. Yeah that was fun explaining it to him.

Not TOO long ago, when I was in the edit room at Splash, a kid flipped off
w/ Mickey Gloves. Shortly thereafter, I went back to shop, saw the kid,
and when he asked me WHY the pic was deleted, I told him that someone
in the log did something "unDisney-like." Instead of looking around,
asking his buddies who did what, he immediately said "I didn't do
anything wrong." I told him that I was the one who deleted the pic, and
that he did do something obscene. He immediately said "no, I didn't. . .
Mickey doesn't have a middle finger, so I didn't flip the camera off. . . "

I work at Splash Mountain attractions and one day This lady came up to
me when i was at photocells which is right next to the pictures...anyways
She was really upset because they erased her picture...well i told her that
she would have to talk to a merchandise CM and she just broke down and
started crying and how i had ruinded her honeymoon because her and
her honey had gone down the big hill kissing...which merchandise does
erase...anyway She then got angry at me since all I said was to talk to
the people in the shop and that i couldnt help her and it ends up that she
got our attractions managers in with the merchandise managers and they
put her on the ride so her and her honey could kiss and they gave her a
free pic ... i was so mad

Why would you erase kissing?

Kissing is not one of the things that is supposed to be erased but some
rookies do it anyways. If they were doing something unsafe like standing
or having an arm hanging out of the log while kissing then that is
definitely grounds for deletion.

With the way that the seating is set up now, I would consider kissing to be very unsafe.

Kissing is on our list at Tower and Coaster. It's unsafe because you can
give each other concussions from it among other things.

It flat out says in the "do not delete" section of the page ... but yeah, the
rookies do it anyway. Esp. if it's 2 males (not much if it's 2 females). I've
had a rookie delete guests for picking their noses ... when I asked the CM
why it was done, I got a response of, "it says to delete them...."
NOO!!! It says "DO NOT DELETE!"

You think working photo at Disney is fun, try working photo at Cedar Point. We don't have edit rooms or dedicated employees to scan photos. Nope, we get to scan photos at our POS stations. The best part is that most locations are only staffed with 1 or 2 employees and if there is more than one customer at the counter at once, you can't scan photos because you can't scroll while you are ringing a sale.
It becomes even more interesting when, by some fluke, you get stuck closing Millennium Force Photo (2nd busiest location in the park) by yourself. Keep in mind this location typically closes with 3 people and can still have lines with 3 working. To make it better, the booth is about 15-20 feet long and 3 feet wide, with the POS terminals at one end and the printers/pick up station at the other end. Trying to keep photos from falling on the floor at the same time you are trying to ring a sale makes things very interesting.
Needless to say there is no time to scan photos, so especially when we got very busy, things tend to be not so family friendly on some of the monitors. I only wish that we had a seperate "dump" station in the back room so that we could sit down in the air conditioning for a while, but thanks to budgets and wonderful ISI equipment, we get to stand out front at our POS stations for 15+ hours per day.

I love how it's always the people who've done something wrong in the photo, who ask why it didn't come out after the fact. That happens a lot at Tower, and I usually pass it off as a computer problem...until they come through three other times and say the same thing to me. At this point, not only does the attractions lead get to talk to them, but I get to pull up the photo and tell them that the idiot in row three was flipping off the camera.
As soon as I say that, almost everyone in that party turns and glares or makes some sort of comment to the one person who they know did it. You'd think they get the hint (or stop that person the next time)...but these are theme park guests I'm talking about.
As far as the kissing thing goes, our guidelines at DCA's Tower say not to delete them...regardless of gender. But I've only been park hopped once, and that one time wasn't to a photo location, so it could be different depending on the layout of that particular attraction.

There are Photo Edit at Splash and Tower?? I didn't know. There is a Photo Edit at Buzz Lightyear. Most of the times the kids are standing. Sometimes we have to delete photos of guests who have open food or beverage containers. Along with any non Disney - like behaviors. We can't delete photos of guests who are doing the Nazi salute or any gang signs. it is because of how the picture may have caught it. Guests might be waving or using sign language to someone else.

There are Photo Edit at Splash and Tower?? I didn't know.Sure are! All edit rooms have A/C but aren't cushy. Space Mt. photo edit is my very fav location to work. Amazing to see what Stupidity guests try at such high speeds. ToT is a fun edit also. Lots of really SGTs at ToT  Never a dull moment with 3 shafts & 3 monitors to watch. ToT seems to go 101 more than most IMHO. Maintenance told me Space Mt. printers are the worst to quickly fix. They go 101 at least 2xs per 8 hr. shift. Causes just a wee bit of chaos  Edit room at Splash is great! We can eat & drink. Even have a little refrig. The fringe benefits of Disney.

Just curious, what system/software do you use at Disney?
I'm just wondering because I used to work in ride photo at Cedar Point and I was offered a CP merchandise position at Disney for Spring 2006, but ended up declining because I was offered a promotion to Team Leader if I stayed at Cedar Point. It's a long story, but on my first day back at Cedar Point in March, I also got a job offer from a travel agency to become a Certified Disney Specialist, so I ended up leaving my job at Cedar Point. I find it kind of ironic that I went from thinking I was going to be working at Disney in December to selling Disney vacations for a travel agency in March. Even though I love my new job and it pays far more than working at the park, I still kind of wish that I would have stayed because I miss it so much.
Partially because of that reason, I am considering giving the college program another shot sometime in 2007, either in merchandise or (hopefully) in hospitality or operations.
Anyway, back to ride photo...
Cedar Point uses ISI RidePix for all of the coasters except Woodstock Express, which still has an older ISI ParkPix system from back when they used to sell both ride photos and character photos at one location.
Cedar Point used Picsolve systems from 1989-2000 until they tested RidePix at Millennium Force. I've been told by the people that worked at the park back when there were still some Picsolve systems in use that they always had problems with them because they weren't PC-based systems and they couldn't preview the photo before they printed it like they can with ISI. Anyway, I guess the ISI system was successful at Millennium Force because the entire park switched to ISI RidePix in 2001 and people that have been around long enough to see both systems (there are only 2 such people that still work there) that the ISI system is far superior.

I went to ask why and they said "Because you did something unsafe and we can't put it on the screen."The "proper" Disney answer to this ToT question I was told to speil is; "Your photo dropped into the 5th demension. We aren't sure why." I used to give a few more details if pressed. We usually can tell the culprits by the manner they ask & looks on faces. :D: Usually fairly easy to spot who did what on rides with photos when they ask to view. Doesn't seem the CM was too courteous to you, yet not actually hearing ToT CM I will not throw stones. You could have asked to speak with a lead or manager in this situation. The photo would still not have been given out.

Not sure if they still do this, but I know at Splash if people wanted to buy a photo but couldn't do so because somebody else on the boat did something dumb, they were allowed to ride again so they could purchase the picture from the second ride.

At the Buzz here we are supposed to delete anything with a hand gesture. Even just waving at the camera. I had one guy tell me that we were un-american for deleting a peace sign.

Well, it depends on the kiss. I've been part of a large group (large enough that we had a whole elevator to ourselves) that, in an effort to create a funny photo, staged a mock kiss between 2 guys. Deleted. (Apparently, Disney will provide benefits to a 'domestic partner' but they won't sell you a picture with 2 guys kissing)

Just spoke to a CM who works PhotoEdit at WDW's Splash, and she told me that photos showing kissing - regardless of gender - are permitted.
According to her, the only things photos are deleted for are obscene gestures, nudity, or unsafe behavior.

Long-time lurker.
Out of curiousity, and based on a recent experience, is it just the kissing that gets deleted? Case in point, I'm at ToT in March with the wife and our friend Muffin. Muffin is a little tiny man (5'2" on a good day), and very very gay. He's sitting between the wife and I, and when the doors open, he grabs my arm and is clinging to me like a terrified 4-year-old, screeching like a little girl. I don't think I've laughed so hard in months. Exiting the ride, we thought that the pic would be a good souvenir. But no dice.
We were just wondering if, in the hands of a rookie CM, that might have crossed into the land of teh ghey and gotten axed. No big deal either way, but we were just curious.
btw, love the site. I don't trust people who aren't just a little bit bitter. Regardless, thanks for everything that you folks do on a daily basis. It is appreciated.

Being that test track is on photopass it now goes through our moderation. When we work over there moderation will call us and tell us why the photo was deleted and what the person looked like and what they were wearing. That way if they ask and it wasn't them we can send them back up if they really want the picture. But I won't offer that to the guest who did something inappropriate.
