I am considering getting my iPhone 4 before my trip to WDW. Has anyone noticed a difference in reception with a 4 vs a 3G on property? It was not great with my 3G last time I was there, and if it will be worse with the 4, I think I will wait till after my trip to upgrade.

I have had the 3 G and 3Gs on property with full bars at all times, so I am expecting in 16 days to have the same great service with my 4!!! Never once any problems at all.

Good to know. Back in December I found that I had no bars at all in my room at Coronado. If I went out by the lake it was half strength.
Signal strength varies greatly by company. Some have excellent coverage, some not so good. Verizon now has an excellent presence, thanks to their cooperative software program. AT&T is weak or absent on most of the property.
In fact, the AT&T sales team was a no-show for a cast even today, so I'm pretty negative about them right now.

I have used my cell phone at Disneyland. I know at the Plaza Inn, inside the phone system dies. I have learned if you are in Fantasyland, your phone works great. But then again, it depends who you have. Verizon Wireless. I have an old phone (about 4 years old).

My provider, Rogers is partnered with AT&T, which explains the lousy coverage I experienced on property.
I would not normally worry about reception, but I am in talks to sort out my next gig at the moment, and might need to be available for another phone interview while at WDW.

I didn't have any issues with my 3G @ WDW, I'm sure the 4 will do just fine. If you want to fund an expedition trip for me and my "staff", I'll test it out and give you a full report :D:
We'll even test this with an additional iPhone 4, just in case one is wacky ;)

wow, when I go to DLR or WDW, I make it a point to shut down the electronic leashes.
I figure that if its that important, they will leave a message.

Two fold, one I am sometimes separated from Mrs. Ktulu when we ride alone, and two, while not on-call 24/7, I am pretty much on-call 24/7 :/

My reasons as well. And with another juicy gig in the offing, it's worth the inconvenience. Plus any emergency support calls trigger a days pay for me. And I like to use the wait times app "Lines" to see whats going on on the other side of the park before I walk over to encounter a 70 minute wait.

I have an old cell phone. (SP) Razer. It works and if I want to up grade, Verizon charges more.

My RAZR is four years old. I just put a new battery in, did a little cleaning, and it's as good as new.

and I called them.

I disagree. I have had both and I have ATT now, never once did it go below full bars, ANYwhere I went.

I've had good luck with AT&T on WDW property. Even on the golf courses, I get a great signal. (I'm not talking on the cell phone while playing golf, which is a big no-no, but I have used it to look up weather forecasts and such just to make sure that there's not going to be a thunderstorm.)
Inside some of the buildings may be different. Your mileage may vary.

Yeah, the apps are useful. So is letting the kiddos play games while in line. Due to my position, I don't get anything if I get called (or when I'm in the normal on-call rotation), but I do have perks of a schedule that is not strictly enforced, plus I can work from home, and I also have the company issued equipment that allows me to work from anywhere. Once I took care of an issue while cruising down the highway, my wife was driving, so it wasn't that exciting :)

It would be really weird if I called work after finding out something while on vacation. Unless a customer happened to call me directly, which could happen. I consider a few of them friends.

Since I am not really in the "customer" business, it only happens when something major happens.
it was on 9-11-2001, and it made a bunch of us rather busy.

Ah, yeah that would have done it for me. I worked that day, well, I went into the office. Not much got done.
I never get paid when work calls me at home either. Though I must say, they always call with the really weird questions, which sort of makes it worth it.
Last week I got a call from CRO. Somebody there needed to know how many of each coupon type was in the "7 Adventure Ticket Book" in 1971.
In case anyone else cares, it's one each of A, B, C, and D coupons, and 3 E coupons.
OTOH, it's really nice to hear them apologizing all over themselves and saying, "Sorry to call you at home, but everyone else I asked said, 'Zazu would know!'"

I have receive phone calls from work while I am on vacation. Last Oct, my department called asking what heat level is good to heat food in the :)warmer and if we put water inside.
Level 5.5 and no water.
I spent a few days traveling back and forth to DLH. They got the best cell phone coverage. When I got back home, the phone coverage was 1/2 a bar compaired to 4 bars. :)

I got one of those calls once. It was from a secret government lab where I had been let go over a year earlier. It came at 3am, so I wasn't all that happy to be talking to them anyway.
"Sir, there has been a fire in the lab."
"So what?
"Um, sir, I said, 'There has been a fire in the lab.'"
"I heard you the first time, I just don't much care at 3am. Call the fire department."
"But sir..."
"Look damnit, this is not freaking 'Andromeda Strain', I was let go over a year ago, I no longer know what's in that lab, and don't have the security clearance to get on base anyway. I say, 'Let it freaking burn!'"
"But, but..."

Sounds like a literal "burn the bridges" goodbye. I did that once after getting laid off. One of the most satisfying things I've ever done. Had the admins in stitches and my "manager" sputtering incomphrensibly.

SWMBO and I took a two week Mediterranean cruise last October. With cut backs and such, there was no one who knew how to run my machine so they persuaded my old boss who had retired two years before to replace me. Nothing went right for him. The machine is an electron beam accelerator and it runs fine when "I" run it. He tried to run full tilt every minute of the day instead of gradually ramping up and down. I came back two weeks behind because he couldn't make it run. It took half a week just to get all the little doodads readjusted so it would run right. Probably a good thing they don't have my cell number.

That's why I have caller id on the phone, so I know who NOT to answer. Course I end up answering the dang thing about half the time anyway worried that something's happened to a loved one not in my immediate field of vision.

I figure that's what voice mail is for!
My DW used to be the type who could never let the phone go unanswered -- didn't matter if she was napping, in the bathroom, wherever, she hated the thought that she might miss some urgent message. But Caller ID has cured her of that.

7 years 1 month 3 weeks 1 day. But who's counting. Though there's a part of me that wants to wait 3 years longer. Then I'd have been at the job for 40 years. Their quinquennial awards have become rather nice. 40 years has a nice bunch of bling attached to it.

Had one once. We'd gotten an extreme bean counting plant manager ( Is there any other kind?) who thought that since I was working 12 hr. days 5 days a week he'd cut his costs by bringing in a protege for me. I tried to explain that the overtime was a transitory yearly occurrence and it would go away in 4 to 6 weeks. He wouldn't listen and brought in a "real go-getter."
I was down two weeks removing pieces of the titanium window from the vacuum system. Not counting down time it probably cost them 17-20k for repairs. The "go-getter" sought other employment.

Shortly before I left the US Courts my Division was having a reorganization. As part of the planning everyone in the Division was interviewed by the outside consultants.
One of the things they had was a "jobs inventory" of what each person actually did. Most non-supervisory people had 3 - 5 items in the inventory. The supervisors tended to have 6-9 items. I was non-supervisory and had 21 items (maybe that's why I was a GS-14).
Anyway, my job was going to be split out to people in five Sections in three Branches.
My boss told me that my only special assignment for the year before my retirement was to put my thoughts and processes down on paper. I set up a special directory on our shared network drive called "Mike's Replacement's Information" and ended up with a little over 200 documents and spreadsheets in it.
