View Full Version : Paying for a season pass for 30 years doesn't exempt you from the ride policies sir

So a few days ago I was scheduled for my unofficial home coaster which is almost always overstaffed, and because of this the park will either decide to have you do sidework (sweep the midway, queue and exit basically), be sent home or be sent to another ride where they need untrained people to fill spots such as entrance or loader, merge or grouper (all the same depending on the ride). So they decided to send me from said coaster along with two other people to our park's rapids ride. At our park we have a no loose article policy, nothing can be brought on the ride, in line or be left on the platform unless the item can be safely secured in a pocket. If it can't be the article has to either go in a ride locker (provided at each ride for $1) or be left with a non-rider. Also, nothing can be left at a ride entrance unattended or it will be brought to lost and found by security. So anyone they sent me to entrance at this water ride and the first guest that shows up with his granddaughter tries to enter the line with souvenier cups in hand. I tell him that no cups can be brought onto the ride or in the line, he immediatly gets angry and starts yelling that he'll just leave it on the side, I tell him again that nothing can be brought in the line to begin with and that nothing can be left on the platform. He continues his fit saying that he'll leave his cups on the ground at the entrance and I tell him that there is no guarantee his cup will be there when he gets back because security has to take all loose articles to lost and found. So he starts yelling some more saying something along the lines of, "I've been buying a season pass to this place for 30 years! Why can't I just bring my ******* **** with me?!" (all this in front of his granddaughter that can't be more than 10 years old). I tell him that no guests can bring anything on the ride and that lockers are provided at each ride to leave his things in while he goes on the ride. He replies with "But I've been coming here forever! I shouldn't have to put my **** in a locker! I never did before why do I have to now?" I inform him that it's the park's (semi) new policy and that all guests have to follow it otherwise they won't be allowed to ride and that the point of the policy is to speed up the pace of the line and load times so no one is holding up the ride by sorting their articles out on the platform. Anyway he storms into the queue still having a fit, I call securtiy and a security supervisor comes over to take the items to lost and found. He comes back just as the guest and his granddaughter return. The first thing the guest does, is notice his cups are gone and he immediately starts digging through the trash can. At that both I and the supervisor inform him that his things are at lost and found and that he'd need to pick them up there and that he can't leave his things at the entrance and he begins to walk off with a "I'll do whatever I want, I've been coming here for 30 years! I'll talk to guest relations about this!". That's the end of that, and about an hour later when I get sent off to go on break I see the guest again waiting in line at guest relations (one of the back ways to get to the backstage diner is right next to guest relations) so on in the inside I was just like :D: lol. Anyway, I just can't believe how pissed people get over not being allowed to bring their stuff in line with them. They can't quite get the idea that you can drop it, you can hit someone with it or lose it completley. And I'm sure if they did lose it if they were allowed to bring their things on the ride they'd complain about us not having a place for them to store their items. Also couldn't believe the way he was talking in front of his granddaughter who clearly just wanted to leave and go somewhere else or why he thought that coming to the park for 30 years entitled him to some sort of pass around the policies which are posted alllllll over the ride entrances.

Wow, I've been visiting DLR at least once a year my whole life, does that mean I'm entitled to ignore policies that weren't in place when I was an infant? How come no one tells us these things!? </sarcasm>

Anyway, that guy is definitely a SG and makes for a great first story.

It happens with half of the APers at DL. They paid so much money to get into the parks and think they they own it. Where does it say on the back of the pass saying that you do.

At HISTA, now EO, I was working the Greeter position and there was numerous times that guest want to go past the turnstiles with drinks in hand. I tell them they can't bring it past the turnstiles. They either can toss it in the garbage can or finish it up with xx minutes until showtime. Often ignoring my advice, they leave it in the planters expecting to still be there by the time they get back. Once they leave, either custodial, or us, would walk over and toss it in the trash. When the guests would return, we just said that custodial came and threw them all away.

Ahh yeh guests to seem to think they run the place, they just have to learn the hard way by getting their things throw out i guess. But yeh that reminds me that I saw some guy with an EO shirt on the other day at my park, thought it was cool lol.

Thanks for all the welcomes too! :)

This is why I'm glad I'm not in attractions any more hahaha. I never miss the guests who think they're above policy.

I feel ya. I used to work at "Coaster" which had no lockers. But Flume and Toro did. I'd have fun:twisted:

I can understand the guy being upset, but he overreacted. I admit, I wasn't a happy camper when I went to Six Flags Saint Louis last year and discovered this policy. At Universal, the lockers are free for the duration of the ride. I really hate that at Six Flags you have to pay for a locker and if you need to get something, you have to pay again. Women's clothing does not typically have large enough pockets to accommodate keys, wallets, etc. so more women will have to use it.

I have diabetes and have to have my stuff with me because I need my meter and glucose tabs should I hit a low. I would not mind leaving it if it weren't for the fact that once I get into it, I would have to pay another dollar to get it out. The first ride would not let me take my bag with me period, and we ended up going to guest relations to get the medical pass. I'm just surprised they wouldn't let me ride and then go. Honestly, this is one reason I have not been back to Six Flags. It is a craptastic policy. Six Flags has no concept of guest service (at least ours does not), it's no wonder they are bankrupt.

I agree, it is a crappy policy and you can tell it's just Six Flags trying to scrounge up any money they can get their hands. I think the lockers should be free like Universal's (and they definetly can be because Six Flags and Universal both use the SmartCarte lockers). I do think lockers are needed to keep from people dropping things off the ride onto people or into the track (which is a big problem at the coaster I work at), but the guests shouldn't have to pay for them.

LOL, don't you just love when your park has some policy that everybody working there can tell is stupid except for the ones setting the policy?

I don't think that lockers will help stuff being dropped, it may even make it worse. Most people aren't willing to stand in a long line without their cell phone or iPod or other device that then gets stashed in a pocket. If they have a bag or something with them, they can stuff it in the bag and leave it on the platform. If they have to leave their bag at the entrance, they are more likely to put it in their pocket where they will either be tempted to take it out once the ride is going, or it will fall out of its own accord.

I don't care for the policy because I would go to Universal a lot by myself when I had an AP, and I like to read in line. Well, I couldn't do that because the book wasn't allowed in line. I didn't like it, but I still did it. Now, I probably would have to request some kind of medical pass for my bag because they don't even allow fanny packs in line.

lol everyone does think it's pretty dumb, including the managers and supervisors. The corporate people clearly don't see how their ideas actually affect the parks, which was very evident when they decided to offer double rides to everyone for the last day of operation for one of our coasters. It was a nightmareee.

But I agree, everyone tries to stuff things in their pockets, and usually it does stay in their pockets but every once in a while something will fall out and if it falls into the catch car then we have to go down for at least 10 or so minutes. And they don't allow fanny packs at Universal? I would think they would because it wouldn't fall off or anything but yeah I'm sure they would have medical passes there as well.

Oh and to avoid starting a new topic about pretty much the same thing I'll just add to this thread.

I loveee when people don't seem to understand what, no loose articles are allowed in the LINE unless it can be secured in a pocket.

The other day I was sent to the entrance of a ride who needed an entrance person and had a group come up to me saying that one of the girls in their group would hold everything for them in line but not ride, I told them the items couldn't be in the line at all (obviously because theres no way to know they are telling the truth about their 'non-rider'). They continue to insist that their friend would hold everything for them in line and I continued to tell them it couldn't be in the line at all. This back and forth went on for about 5 times before the one girl finally left the line to 'put their items in a locker'. They left them behind a trash can and all went in line. A little while later a security card comes by and throws them away. I agree it's a stupid policy but that doesn't mean you can go around it just because it inconviences you.

Oh and I just realized I probably could've just added to the previous post rather than double posting. Sorry about that.

We had a similar incident at our court last week. One lady was going through security with a camera in her purse, which is a no-no. Not a big deal like a weapon, just not allowed in the courthouse, so she was told to take it back to her car.

She decides she doesn't want to exert the energy it would take to walk the extra 100 feet or so to her car, so she just goes outside and "hides" the camera next to the building behind a newspaper vending machine, and goes back in. When she's done with court, of course, the camera is gone. Now fortunately for her, a man saw some kids find and take the camera, and he knew who they were. Last I heard he'd called them to come back with the camera.

What's really comical is that she was trying to get one of our marshals to arrest the kids when they returned! He was trying not to laugh at her when he told her, "They didn't do anything wrong -- you abandoned the property! You should be happy if you get it back."
