View Full Version : Oh bother! I ruined *another* vacation.
I don't know how I manage to do it. I just keep ruining vacations for people.
Today it was a guest who was mightily unhappy with the room she booked. Unhappy because it was exactly what she had paid for. She had gone through the CM next to me in under five minutes, and demanded a manager who came out and offered her all of the alternatives the CM had.
In her frustration, she pointed at him and demanded that he leave the desk, as she didn't even want him listening to her. Much chagrined, he retreated backstage.
More yelling, more demands, and since we were full, still not the view she felt entitled to, so she then pointed to me, standing at the next station, not saying a word, and pretending not to be listening, and demanded that I too be banished, for I was also ruining her vacation, and indeed her entire Florida experience!
My fellow CM and I had a good laugh about it as we waited for her to blow out... and eventually take the same offer he had made to her in the first minute.
I wonder what color the sky is on the planet these people come from?

So many angry people... they must really need a vacation!

Well, let's see...I was called a "Dream Killer" during the first days of the "Year of a Million Dreams" campaign within 30 seconds of answering the phone.
Oh and never forget the guest that ranted at me for 30 minutes after going through another CM for 15 minutes before the CM called me out. I finally told him after offering the available solutions during those 30 minutes, "Sir, I do Magic...nor Miracles". He shut up and and left without any of my solutions. :D:

I have said it before, they need to set a limit on how much the CM's have to take from those type of "guests" maybe they should create a "magic killer" catagory to put them in and they are automatically sent to a room over the trash bins, with no hot water, no ac..and the room phone only connects to the recorded mickey greeting?
or better still, have a "do not book" list for habitual complainers that try and get free upgrades because there was a speck of dust on the dresser, or some other insignificant piddling thing.
there will be plenty of others that would be happy to take their place.

Yesterday was one of the worst days we've had in a few yrs on Main St. & I ruined 2 DL trips. Guests were just nasty & yelling. One mother let her small child's balloon become caught btwn lights in ceiling fan then she screamed @ 3 CMs as the lead tried to untangle balloon & bring down. Yes, mother was the cause as I kindly told her a few times to watch the balloon. Her daughter was much too small to understand. When the balloon didn't come down after several tries the mother tried to grab the long clothes hook from the lead 3 times. Balloon was retrieved undamaged for the child. Mother screamed again @ lead before the family left. We were positive mother wouldn't complain to G R as she was not from U S. Manager was called so he knew what the lead went through. Lead told all in break room she wanted to hit the screaming mother with the clothes hook. :D: Too bad this is against Disney policy. Not long after this issue we had a guest who didn't want to wait 15 mins. for name to be put on hat. She screamed louder than the first SG. Even felt her swear words would get her a front of the line pass, free written name, & comp on the cap. Was great, nothing worked her way! She was given a refund & bid us all good bye with a string of 4 letter words. Mon. was a shift I didn't need.

As a fairly regular guest of WDW, I have always found this sort of behavior bewildering. SERVICE is the REASON we keep coming back and Disney has the BEST!!
Course my favorite screaming SG story is the time we lucked into a stay at the Wilderness Lodge. The day we checked in was the day of some sort of big press event (can't remember which) but they were pretty full and busy. We had requested the bunk beds so the kiddos didn't have to share. The SGs at the counter next to me were in full blown screaming mode. As we are checking in, the CM taps a bit on the computer then excuses himself for a minute ducks into the back, and comes back out and says "I see that you requested the bunk beds. I'm sorry that we don't have any available for tonight. We can upgrade you to a courtyard room tonight and then change you if you want." Now I knew darn well that the room he was giving me was going to be nicer than the one I booked so I politely said, "That would be fine." He looked up astonished and said "REALLY, really. Wow that's great." then leaned over the counter and gave me a hug. I could tell he had been expecting a fight and was completely relieved when I was actually HAPPY that he was making magic for me. It was one of the best examples for the kids that if you treat your server right, they will take better care of you because so many folks treat them poorly.

Sorry you had a rough day, Main Streeter. Wish I could make it better. I will admit that I had gone into Le Chapeau (sp?) on our last trip to get hats, but when I found out they wouldn't be ready for 45 minutes, I decided against it (we were headed out of the park). No four letter words were spoken to the CMs (to myself....that's another story), no spewing hateful things. Hey, it was totally my fault. I should have hit the shop on our way INTO the park and I forgot I wanted the hats until we were on our way out.
I'm so sorry, though. If it makes you guys feel any better there are SGs everywhere....in every kind of business. I just took a job as controller for a fuel merchant (think home heating oil delivery). One of my tasks is to collect $$$ from customers with outstanding balances. I had a lady call on Friday (she owed about $300 - not that high of a balance) and asked me what would happen if she didn't pay her bill. I said, "I will take you to court". She said "Really? I thought you would just send me collection letters and then forget about the balance." I was like What?!?!? The woman must be brain-damaged....nope, just a SG in the wilds of South Jersey.
Have a better day today!

I constantly tell my children this. I try to live by the Golden Rule as much as possible. When we go to Disney, I tell them the CMs are there working and it's important for us to be as friendly and polite as we can be. Also, it's not like CMs are slave labor....although, I guess SGs believe that they are.

For those mean SG who are on vacation come from a place where the sky is white.
For their vacation, the hotel room is a padded room with pink and white dots. After checking in, you are escourted to your room where the CM's put you in a straight jacket.
The balloon? Was it one of ours? If it was, we have the weights. The weights have to be on by law. Edison gets mad when our mylar balloons bets intangled with the power lines. Know, if it was a Denny's balloon, that sucker should be tied to the stroller. If the kid does not want nothing to do with the balloon, go outside and let it go. No SG should be saying the 4 letter words to anyone.

if you let it be known to the public that you DID have such a thing, and that bad SG behaviour would land you on it, perhaps the spectre of not being able to go to A Disney park because of they way they act might have a positive KITA on them!!
It dosn't have to be an "in your face" type of thing, I just see people becoming more and more SG like in their daily behaviour, and of course that carries over to the "I WILL have fun on my vacation, and woe to anyone that trys to keep me from doing anything I want to do."
I think it would make for a better working enviroment for the CM's, as well as the guests that want a vacation without the same daily crap from a few people that think they are the center of the universe.
..when everyone knows that it is only those of us here on SGT!!

Pirate! Where have you been, man? Good to see you.
Ugh, Zazu, the behavior I've seen/heard of the past year especially has just made me really wonder if somehow some humans have devolved and they now function withoiut hearts. Or brains for that matter.
Now I'm thinking of B-movie zombies. BRAINS!!!
You old vacation ruiner. That's what you are. Remind me never to stay in your gorgeous, every room is luxurious no matter where on the grounds it is, incredible resort in the most amazing vacation destination in the world.
You might find a way to ruin my vacation too and then I'd never recover.
You ruiner.
Gah, if only these people could see themselves from the outside- and believe me, this is sadly behavior I've seen from my mother on occasion and it still kills me.
Did I ever tell you guys that she had me in tears the night before my wedding to March? She is terrified to fly- she's totally agoraphobic now and only leaves her house if absolutely forced (she hasn't even been to a doctor in 20 years- only the dentist when in pain) we really didn't think she'd make the trip for the wedding.
Well, she did.
After a harrowing flight (only because she was on it otherwise it was flawless) we get to the All Star Sports and check in- and she is complaining about- I am horrified to admit- the colors used to decorate the resort.
The sound byte of the day:
Mother dear: "This is not the Disney I remember!"
My sister: "Mom, you didn't want to pay for the Disney you remember, remember?"
She expected the Values to be just what she'd get at a monorail resort. Yeah. Okay...I'd rather stay at a value resort to be in WDW than a five star spa anywhere else on the planet.
That night, I was so overwhelmed I was just crying and she said to me, once and the only time in my life "I'm sorry I'm such a ***ch." I almost dropped my coffee cup. I said "Mom if you're really sorry please be nice tomorrow?"
Fortunately, she was on best behavior for the wedding itself. Later in the trip though- god I could tell you stories that would have Transportation CM's waking up in a cold sweat.
I am so sorry on behalf of my family for any pain they may have ever caused any CMs ever. I try to do what I can to make up for it! I swear she's the only SG in the family the rest of us are very well behaved.

To my knowledge the glass house balloons should have weights. If their balloon met the ceiling fan and ate it, the SG should take it back to the vendor and get another one. You are right, both ceiling fan and lights will distroy the balloon.

Oct 2009, My flight went from MCO to Houston TX. I flew on Continental. The second plane that I was to catch from there was delayed back in New York with bad weather. The plane was 3 hours late. My flight was going to take off at 7:21 pm instead of 5:30 pm. The plane and new crew got to the gate. They got us on and compted everyone everything. That's nice. When the plane got up to cruising altitude, the pilot came on and told us why the plane was late. On the East coast the airport has a company called Chelsee catering. The catering truck driver was not paying attention and crashed the top layer of the food truck into the side door of the jet. The truck driver pulled back discovering that they had smashed a hole into the side door. OOPS!!!

That is why you visit the bar at the airport. Just watch how much you drink. Then you make friends with the people around you. "Excuse me my good man, but will you be enjoying a fine adult beverage this flight? No? Mind if you buy these for me?"
When I was leaving Tokyo, I struck up conversation with the guy next to me on the train to the airport. The news butch came by (not sure if they call them news butchers on their trains) and he asked if I'd like a beer. That's like asking someone in hell if they'd like a glass of ice water.

You know, I blame this on sites like Board X. One person gets a perk for unknown circumstances, room upgrade, private meeting with Mickey or whatever and everyone that reads that expects the same treatment. If their little darling doesn't get the same treatment the vacation is ruined because they told Junior it will happen.
I pay for my basic vacation and DO NOT expect to get anymore than I paid for. Now if a CM decided to upgrade me for some reason, amazing! It adds to the magic. I've read threads over the years there that encourages people to book basic and then after checking in cause a stir to get upgraded to a better room and or better resort if the toilet paper is not placed on the hanger rolling off the top.
The best Magic is the stuff you least expect. We once were waiting in line for Fastpass return for RRC wondering why it was taking so long to get to the CM. The guests about two groups in front of us were giving the CM a hard time about their return. He was trying to explain the return time because they were 45 minutes early. They needed to go home or something and wanted to go early on the ride. It was resolved, someone else came to talk to the group. We got to the young fella and said something along the lines of " You guys put up with all kinds don't you? I couldn't do your job without getting fired". He grinned, said thank you and gave my wife and I two other FastPasses to go on again. A small thing but Magic none the less.
I wise crack about the SG's a poor CM has gone a round with just to remind them we all are not a-holes and try to get that smile back on their face. It usually works.

I had a guy who has worked Security at the Value Resorts tell me that he has actually been given the job of watching the Board X's from just behind the front desk. The fastest he's ever seen a post go up and get used was 15 minutes. Of course, He made sure he let the front desk folks know about the post, along with the MOD, and they were able to head that one off at the pass.

I think this is a good idea, they are going to have to crack down on it otherwise Disney will be driven out of business. I'm astonished at the amount of folks that encourage others to complaint in order to get something out of it.

It makes you wonder about some of those people over there. I've posted for years and the only time I was warned about my conduct was when I nicely said something to a lady about scamming Disney. She came at me hard with the "I'm spending thousands of dollars" speech and a few other choice words just short of swearing at me. So being that I don't take the crap from some stranger on the net, I returned the favor and got my hand slapped and the post erased. Her's wasn't, go figure. So I stay out of it now, it's not worth it.

To make matters worse I have over thirty days of vacation left for the year with no way to use it since the winning Powerball numbers always appear on a less deserving person's ticket.
Just being there should be more than enough but in our 'me me me' society that just isn't the case. I'm beginning to think that when the Vogons come to destroy the Earth to make room for the intergalactic highway that it will be the best thing that could happen to humanity.

Shorty said it! And the absolute best is when you can make a little magic in return for the CM's. At least I think so.
I had a wonderful, totally unexpected magical moment when I and a group of friends visited last September. We spent most of our time with members from this board, and a group of us went to MNSSHP, dressed up. I'd made Evil Step sister costumes for a friend and I, just for fun. With all of us adults (no kids) in costume, we got alot of attention! Management gave us free ice cream (which for us Canadians was really needed in that heat!), we got to spend some one on one time with the Step sisters and Stepmother, ended up with our own character escorts for part of the night, and at the end of the night, we went to finish it off with a visit with Cinderella and Prince Charming. The greeters and managers were so excited and impressed by our costumes, they ended up closing the doors (we were the very last guests of the night), posing us, and opening the doors for a private audience with Cindy and the Prince. I'll never forget the looks on their faces (and have the pictures to prove it!). What an absolute blast, and totally unexpected.
That's the best kind of magic, not the 'me me me', 'gimme gimme gimme' kind. That isn't magic...that's spoiled brattiness.

Aha, so now I understand the reaction of the CM many years ago at the old Dixie Landings. Mr. Syndrome and I abruptly extended a cruise vacation with a couple days at Disney World...he changed our flight while we were at the airport waiting to go home while I called WDW to get a hotel. Oops, it was some sort of special event weekend so there was NOTHING. He had already changed the flight, so we decided to go to Dixie Landings since it's a big resort as the person on the phone told us rooms sometimes open up around noon. I threw myself on the mercy of someone at the front desk. He found us a room and was very, very apologetic that the TV wasn't working. I didn't understand the big apology because a) he was doing us a favor by getting us any room at all and b) it's not like we were going to be hanging out in the room anyway. I didn't realize I was supposed to berate him for not getting us a perfect room and in the most expensive category at the least expensive price. Silly me.

A few weeks ago I was a firsthand witness to a fistfight that broke out in my line. I was grouping guests into the Pirates boats when what turned out to be a father and (step?)son got into a heated shouting/physical match. My load cast member immediately called a coordinator down and the son took off down the line back to the entrance of the ride and out. Our team came running, and we escorted the family out of the attraction. We eventually found the son and I of course was a bit shaken up by this. After getting out of that position, the rotation took me to stroller parking. As I was hurridedly moving strollers around to accomodate more for parking, a douchebag guest says this:
SG: "When you move the strollers around, can you be more careful as to not drop people's stuff? You just dropped my $18 spray fan."
Me: "I'm sorry."
SG (More Irritated): "Did you acknowledge what I just said?"
Me (Angrily Turning to him): "I SAID I WAS SORRY." (And walked away)
First of all, I didn't see you fan fall out of the stroller. Here's how I wish the conversation could have played out.
SG: "When you move the strollers around, can you be more careful as to not drop people's stuff? You just dropped my $18 fan."
Me: "I'm sorry."
SG (More Irritated): "Did you acknowledge what I just said?"
Me: "Sir, I just witnessed a pretty nasty fistfight inside my attraction just now. I'm a bit shaken up and at this very moment, the least of my worries is your overpriced squeeze fan that will probably break in a few days anyways."
(And he, stunned, shuts up and walks away)

The weekend before Xmas my friend and I decided to take her 2 sons to DL. We had never been for Xmas and were really excited. She was driving my car and less than 45 mins from home we got pulled over for speeding. The cop was not sympathetic to our tale so she got a ticket. I told her that if she didn't pay the ticket and I was held responsible for it (since it was my car) then I could sue her and have our case heard by Judge Judy. Afterwards we could go to DL to celebrate, it didn't matter which of us won. :D:
The ticket did NOT ruin the trip. It was the best Xmas I had in a long time.:tree:

Reminds me of something I once witnessed....
At a trip to DL, my brother and I were "power-walking" to BTRR as the park had just opened. We got to witness an SG trying to navigate through a closed-off section, pulling along his son, in an obvious attempt to be first in line. All too soon, *wham*, the son was pulled face-first into one of the trash cans that had been placed along the closed line. If that wasn't bad enough, as the CMs helped the boy, providing paper towels for the bloody nose he got, the father kept saying "Oh, he's fine" and wanted to hop on board!
