View Full Version : Upcoming SGT.com Downtime

I was contacted today by the folks that handle our server and was informed about some future downtime that we can expect as they relocate our server to a larger data center. Since it sums it up quite nicely (and also out of a bit of laziness), I'll quote their email to me regarding the time frame.

The first move we are scheduling will be on March 27, 2010 starting at 11:59 pm thru March 8, 2010 and the second move tentatively set for April 3, 2010 starting at 11:59 pm thru April 4, 2010. During this relocation we will keep the downtime to a minimum. We estimate that downtime depending on the order of the server moves to be between 1 to 8 hours with our goal being 1 to 4 hours.

I am assuming that the times are CDT, as our data center is located in Texas. Also, how I understand it, we should only experience an outage on only one of those dates, so when I have more information on this I'll post it in this thread.

Don't forget, if you're experiencing some SGT.com withdrawals during the down time, you can always stop by the Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/StupidGuestTricks/312163657929?ref=nf) page.

I'm just a little unsure of the timeframe for the first move as it seems they will be moving backward in time for about a month!;)

I know it's a typo... just had to point it out.:D:

Odd...it said March 28, 2010 in the email I copy/pasted it from. Guess my computer has been hanging out with the dryer that keeps eating my socks.

Okay, I just can't resist the urge to say it...

"Please keep your hands and feet inside while the server is in motion. And, please, no flash photography!"

Actually, photography of any type is prohibited inside the POP, so you might as well just sit back and enjoy the ride!

Saint's "Things to do during downtime" suggestions.

1. Cry.

2. Make a diarama of your favorite SG doing the thing that made them famous.

3. Do the Time Warp, again.

4. Scout parks for new SGs. Or, if you don't live near the parks, eat unhealthy amounts of bacon.

5. Learn to speak German. (Can't take more than a day, right?)

I plan to dust and adjust my monorails (just unpacked Orange finally, need new avatar picture- woot!) maybe paint a picture, work on the outline for my Script Frenzy screenplay (and maybe learn to use the software I need to format it LOL) and then I'll cry.

But crying will definitely be on the agenda.

I would recommend reading notalwaysright.com and clientsfromhell.com to supplement your lack of badly behaved customer stories. There should be enough there to carry you thru till the boards come back online.

clientsfromhell.com gives me a 403 Forbidden error when I go to it. Google gave me http://clientsfromhell.tumblr.com/, is that correct?

Yup... looks like someone forgot to pay the bill on the direct Domain name, or effed up the Nameserves.
