A number of you may have received a PM from a new member that contained a graphic image and links to porn web sites. Know that they have been banned with extreme prejudice.

We regret that this sort of thing happens, but without moderating every new member, it will occasionally occur. We will take prompt and decisive action when it does, and you can help by reporting such posts or IMs to us immediately.

Is there an option to block pictures and links in PMs until a user has at least a post or two?

If you want to provide any information, such as an IP, I would be interested in finding out a bit more about the source of the spam :)

I got the same PM from this yahoo and reported it PDQ. :twisted: I know this isn't meant to be a 'family friendly' site,but this was total BS. :mad: Has to be the shortest membership in SGT history.

I'm currently in the process in reviewing recent registrations for potential spam bots, and it does appear that they have been outsmarting our registration recaptia system for quite some time now. I've removed a bunch of accounts that were clearly fake, but there are still more out there.

Over the next few days I'll be improving the registration system and possibly some other improvements to help with this problem. In the meantime, I've put new account registration back on manual approval, so I apologize to any non-spam bot new users that try to register in the next few days. I've also adjusted the settings so that you must now have 5 posts before Private Messaging is an option for new accounts. And just to be safe members with less than 5 posts will not have the option to upload images, have signatures, or post messages on another user's profile page.

Now, if you'll all excuse me, I'm going to need to go contemplate whether or not spam bots are worse than SGs.

I'm having the same problem. I can click on New Posts and get in fine.

OK...all of the spam PMs should now be deleted. Also everybody should have access to the home page once again. If anyone's still having issues with the home page, or still has a PM lingering around let me know.

Thanks for getting rid of the a-holes, guys. I didn't get the PM and I think I'm glad. If I had I would have reported it to y'all right away. To bad we have to tighten up our registration system and can't be more open. The idiots on the 'net make it tougher for everybody else.

Then I saw the message at the start of this thread and went back and deleted without opening. No Problem.
Yes, we have awesome mods! I love the fact that I was able to find out in only a few clicks that things were already being handled.:)
