For whatever reason, I get the most SGs during Thanksgiving week. I have never understood this phenomenon, as it is busier during other holidays, but Thanksgiving is a fairly thankless time to be a Cast Member.
Like the lady I had on Thanksgiving istelf, who came up to me. I was working at Contemporary, and because I knew it was about to get busy, I had the entire queue opened up, so that people had to go to the end of the building to board. This creates what I call the swirl, where everyone, whether getting on or off the Monorail, is walking in the same direction.
As I closed the gate and the Monorail at the station closed its doors, this lady (I am being sooooo nice by calling her that) came up to me, shook her head and started a rant that lasted until the next train arrived. And yes, she made it personal, from the beginning.
"You know, I've been coming to Disney World since the 70's, and this place is really going down hill... fast! I mean, I've already gone to Guest Relations about it and called the corporate offices... You know, there was a day where they would NEVER hire someone like you."
From that point on, suffice it to say, she lost my attention. I just stood there. There was no answer I could give her that would be the right answer. She continued to berate the company and me (I think she might have been mad that I closed the gate when she was halfway down the ramp and would never have made it aboard anyway), and she was absolutely nasty. I did not move away, because I figured she would follow me and more guests would hear. It's amazing the hypnotic effect it has to listen to someone in the same line as you complain.
I simply sat there formulating my response. As I opened the gate...
"Thank you. I hope your Thanksgiving is as Magical and wonderful as you have tried so hard this Thanksgiving to make mine."
I simply pointed the way and smiled.
I don't think she liked that very much.

Wallaby, I'm so sorry you have to put up with garbage like that from SGs. I bet she's made lots of other CMs lives miserable since the 70's, too.
Here's a hug from me (and others) that will hopefully squeeze all that "lady's" poison out of your system. :grouphug:
And your response was well formulated. Good show.

I am sorry to hear that the SG were bad at the monorail. I missed out on Thanks Giving with my parents. Some how I have the swine flu and I am not going into work until it is fully gone.
My sister was able to go to the Bay Area to meet up with the in-laws. The first night in her hubby calls me and tells me that they made it in after driving from Poway to the Bay in 12 hours. The afternoon of Thanks Giving, my sister calls to say that the in-laws are drunk and complaining of how to slice the turkey. I laughed at that one. Around 2 am they left the Bay area and they called me this morning. When they texted me, they were fine and heading towards home.

When I lived in Oregon, we went to visit with my parent's friends. Their friends they knew from college. OK, their friend's at that time lived in Legiswego (sp), OR. All of us like sticking black olives on our fingers and sucking the slaty juice out of them.
When it came to slice the turkey, they used an electric carving knife. That year the knife over heated and died. My dad and his friend Roy decided to find the snarpest knife. They found butcher knife. They did get some fun slices of meat off the turkey.
About 10 years ago, we had a family get together with them and all the extended families. It was at my parent's house in their family room. We got about 25 of us sitting around this big c shaped tables. We had allot of food and talked about the days when we all were in Oregon. Things havenot really changed. I have now taught my nieces and nephew the olive goes on the fingers. ;)

I looked up the Enchanted Forest. Things have changed. Read the story about the owner and how they have the company still running.
I told the crew to keep up the good work. I only saw the farris wheel and the cheap mansion. I moved in June of 1981 to CA. I have not had the chance to see how this place ended up.
My other place for fun was Omsi. I think I spelled it wrong. But it was always fun. Also going to the Portland Zoo and being chased by peacocks. My older brother chased them and the birds always seeked revenge on me.

Mo and I were there. I wore allot of warm clothes too. The lines were out of control. The cappo line collided with the picture line in front of the castle. We did see Santa and we did walk around the park.
We met up with some friends at the California Grand and had dinner in the bar. I had a Gadiva chocolate martini and the slider cheese burgers. I believe all of us had mixed drinks except MO had a beer. Then we all went shopping and we headed for the park.
I did hear that the crew that that was to go on Monday cancelled and got the tickets for Tuesday. That is why the park was mega crowded.

Neat experience: being at the dedication ceremony of a SR-71 to any museum, with Sled pilots as guest speakers. Neater experience: Doing that by accident under the wings of the Spruce Goose.
Where they now have the Blackbird roped off, the night of the ceremony, you could get right under it. I had to stick my head in a wheel well so I could say I'd done it.

As long as we are OT , where I live is the home to the B-1 Bombers in Texas. Now that is a cool plane. We get to see many takeoffs and landings on a weekly basis. When they crank the wings back and light the afterburners is truly incredible. My next door neighbor was a crew chief and part of the ground team for the flyby at the rose bowl the year Texas won.

When I was growing up, they had a large painting of that in our court house.

you had to be near the desert, because I live a few miles north of MCAS Miramar and they are not allowed to do any of that in the area as they are surrounded by residences. The only time you hear and see them doing anything like that is during the air show. The most noise nowadays is the helicopters transiting up the I15 corridor to Pendleton.
After the marine fighter jet augered in to a bunch of houses and killed some people here in San Diego, they don't do anything but take off and land.
all manuvers are over specific restricted airspace, far away from anyone on the ground.
the only noise I have ever heard is them doing runups, and that is on a calm night when sound travels.

We were on the way to the airport. The pilots were idiots. They looked like they were going to hit the freeway.
I live right near Los Alamitos Joint Forces Base. They do have the fighter planes take off and land on the base on the weekends. When there is weekend exercises, you can hear the loud rumbling and see the planes take off and roll to a high position. My folks live in Rossmoor and there has been allot of complaints to the base because of low flying jets.
We get the errors too. My condo complex sits behind the old Parosol resturant. He do see stupid choppers miss their target and try to land on our buildings. One did land on our roof and we called the police. The base is no longer flying over us.:mad:

I know exactly where you are turkeyham! Parosol hasn't been there for several yrs. I'd never heard of it until last Aug. Parasol became Mel's. Seal Beach lost a good thing when Mel's closed Oct. 10 - with no notice to employees. Jet noise should halt in Rossmoor soon. Mega money in 3 million & up Rossmoor. Can't piss them off for long.

I went to Oceanside on Amtrack and the train went pass the base. Apparently there is 2 runways still intact. There are a few buildings still being used by the military. There are allot of trailors too. I can tell you, they did not turn it into a housing place or a park.

as I said before, I live north of what is now MCAS Miramar. when it used to be NAS Mirmar (topgun) as I would be driving past the base on I-15 going home at night, you would see the tomcats coming back from a days worth of play.
you could always tell the tourists or newbys driving because they would either suddenly slow down or pull over to the side when they were on approach. (the final landing path is over I-15) and they planes looked big, but they were still probably at 300 or 400 agl.
it always caused a headache for the CHP when they were having an air show.

That's where we were. We were on the 15 heading to the airport. I like the planes and yes, traffic was doing the looky-lew and causing traffic to seriously come to a stop.
It was like driving down Katella this evening around 8 pm and a sheriff had pulled someone over. 2 drivers almost crashed into the cruiser. Ok, if there are flashing red and blue lights in front of you, yes, get out of that lane.
In Oregon, we were driving down on I-5 heading to Corvallis. If there is a car crash or if someone is pulled over by the police, you can not slow down to check out the police action. I heard if caught doing this, the fine is $500.
2 lane high ways, not a good way to tie up the freeways.
