And a blind one. No way of knowing where it goes without clicking it because of the pointless use of tinyurl.

I don't mean to intrude in things, but for those who are interested, I found the news from D23;

http://d23.disney.go.com/articles/11030909_NF_FEAT_Shanghai.html

"The Walt Disney Company today announced that the Project Application Report (PAR) for a Disney theme park in the Pudong district of Shanghai has received approval from the relevant authorities of the central government of China."

This sounds interesting. I had hopes to get to all the Disney parks in my lifetime. Guess I have another one to add to the list. Sure sounds small. Other than that, not much information in the general media yet.

Anyone else heard much?

The news story I read said a "magic kingdom" LIKE park.

so I wonder if they can't build a full on Disneyland park.

All the PAR does is give Disney the go ahead to begin preliminary development (see the rest of the story from D23 below). I'm thinking there will be a lot of political hoops that Disney will have to jump through and it's going to be a long time from development to actual park.

"The PAR approval will enable Disney and its Shanghai partners to move forward toward a final agreement to build and operate the park and begin preliminary development work. Upon completion of the final agreement, the project's initial phase would include a Magic Kingdom-style theme park with characteristics tailored to the Shanghai region and other amenities consistent with Disney's destination resorts worldwide."

Instead of Main Street U.S.A. could we expect to encounter a scale model of the Great Wall ? Or (shudder) Tiannamen Square ?:eek:

It's been done (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splendid_China), and not that far from Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

The PRC Government also operated one in Central Florida (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splendid_China_(Florida)) as well. Eventually closed after protests, vandalism and performers fleeing the park and claiming political asylum.
