Okay, so the family and I are making our annual pilgrimage to the Land of Disney in Fl again this December. What's the swine flu situation down around WDW looking like these days?

Good jokes work forever.

Only when used properly, it is quite easy to use a good joke when it isn't appropriate and thus ruin it. But the next time it is used properly it works again.

Just remember to wash your hands after handling all those nasty handrails in the ride queues, and before and after you eat food, and of course after a trip to the loo.
Did I spell queue correctly? Too lazy to look it up.

I am thinking about buying masks for our plane trip to Orlando in December. I am weighing the "don't wanna look like a dork" vs "don't wanna be sick for a $3K vacation" situation. Perhaps if I wear my Minnie Mouse santa hat WITH the mask it will override the dork-dom.

I will have hand sanitizer on my person every second of the journey and wipe all regions of everything on the plane with disinfectant upon choosing my SWA seat. I hope the air wait staff doesn't take offense.

remember kids, it takes 2 weeks post-shot to develop immunity......
Not for you if:
Allergic to eggs or other vaccine components
History of Guilliam-Barre Syndrome or certain other neurological diseases
people with asthma should not take Flumist.
Preservative-free Flu Vaccine available for Pregnant Women, kids 6-36mos or others who don't want preservatives.
Ask your Doctor for advice if any of these apply to you.:)

Love the Jessica smilie. And I thought that the up-the-nose flu vacine was live virus and thus began providing immunity right away.

I got my regular flue shot a couple of weeks ago and took the kiddos over the weekend. We'll be down there tomorrow and I'm making sure that everyone has their own bottle of purell and that we use it.

Hmmmm, will follow up on that one-maybe some level of immunity, but I believe the inhaled H1N1 vaccine requires 2 doses 3 weeks apart to provide full immunity-will take some time to develop immunity even if exposed as body needs time to manufacture antibodies, but do not know live vs. antigen parts used for injected vaccine differing in antibody response- will get back to you on that one.;)

I officially have a friend who has swine flu, she wasn't feeling well so she stayed home from work and when she went to see a doctor, they obviously tested for it, and found it. She has a little bit more to worry about with it because she has asthma, but it doesn't look like it's going to be an issue because she went to the doctor early.

OK, I found something from the National Institute of Health:

<aaargh, can't get stupid link to work>

I think the 2-dose schedule is for age 9 and below.
Link states immunity post approx 10 days, If I'm reading it correctly.....

Don't Worry, we will get full instructions when we get our supplies!:)

I have allergies to eggs. My doctor says I can't have the main flu shot. He is going to research the new shot. I can't get it right now. My sinus sugery is not until Nov. 11th and then they will debate then if I get the swine flu shot.

If you have an allergy to eggs you probably won't be able to get this vaccine ethier (at least in the shot form). It was made the same way as the seasonal flu vaccine.

Wow, have been back to work a few days....Many cases of swine flu. In fact, our doctors are saying that anyone with flu symptoms(fever, cough, body aches) probably has H1N1 as it is too early for the seasonal flu to appear:eek:
This is a really nasty virus. Avoid ill persons if at all possible. Of course, that advice will probably work for only a few of us.:(

H1N1, I know two people who have had it, both are about my age, so 21-25, and both are fine. One of them has asthma, so she was had increased risk of complications. The other got it, went on the trip detailed at http://www.stupidguesttricks.com/showthread.php?t=5627. After we got back he went to the doctor and they didn't find H1N1 because they were looking at the wrong test results. A few weeks later they contacted him and told him this and now we all laugh about it.

I got a seasonal flu shot a few days ago and since then all the drug stores, pharmacies, family practice offices, etc., have been out of the vaccine. My DH had to go to the next county's Health Dept to get the shot this morning. Most places say they won't have any more seasonal flu vaccine until December!
We wanted to get the flu shots before our trip to WDW in TWO WEEKS! :D:

They say the H1N1 virus is especially slow-growing, so it takes longer to make the vaccine. I wonder if a regular flu shot would offer at least partial protection? Of course, the last time I had the flu was 1982. But boy, do I remember getting the Hong Kong flu in '68-'69. That was a bummer. Don't know what I had in '82, but that was even worse--they said it was a cold and flu at the same time. I had never been that sick in my life.

Ugh, work load is doubled due to Swine Flu.....
SG of the evening- has the flu but refusing to wear mask because it makes her cough more. I explain how not everyone in room has it yet and how highly communicable it is. I closed curtains around her and warned everyone to not go in there:mad:
I wear mask because EVERY patient seems to have a cough. Had my H1N1 shot a week ago, so another week until I have immunity:cool:

At work, if you have the flu, you are sent home and are not allowed to return until you get over it. If I serious get sick, I call in and stay home.

My friend works at a medical clinic. She is a registered RN. She says that allot of kids have the flu and seriously need to learn how to cover their faces when coughing and sneezing. I was told to cough or sneeze into the elbow. If you use your hands, wash your hands!!!

I had that about a month ago, it went into an infection. I ended up on an antibiotic. About half the kids at the school were out and a quarter of the staff. I hope you both feel better soon.
