Just returned from a fantastic trip to the world - and have to commend the awesome CM's - you guys rock and it was hot, then it was rainy but everyone kept their smiles on! WOW!
Anyhow, overheard in the bathroom near the entrance to Epcot:
Mom - "why did you bring me to this Elcot park?"
Kid - "cause there's rides and stuff and it fun"
Mom - "no its not, its not even Disney"
Kid - "mom, it is Disney, it says so here"
Mom - "no, no, no we were at Disney yesterday! Is there any rides at Elcot? I don't think there's anything to do here."
Kid - "Lets go up in the ball, mama!"
Mom - "Thats not a ride that is the statue of Elcot"
I had to walk out of the bathroom at that point I was in tears holding back the laughter! I bet that family had a fun day at "Elcot"!!

You are a better person than I. I would have laughed and carried on about all the great rides and shows. :D:

It appears that the arm of Spaceship Earth would have been useful.
Let's hope this doesn't give Disney an excuse to rebrand it "Disney's Epcot".

Don't feel bad,we took a friend of my son to Disneyland about 10yrs ago. 3yrs ago we took his sister and mom,and the mom kept refering to it as Walt Disney. After a dozen times telling her otherwise about the name:banghead: I just gave up.

I needed something funny just now and this is just what the doctor ordered! I will forever be quoting this to DH as he and I always joke about SG's interpretation of Spaceship Earth. Until now, it has mainly been limited to the idea that it is a super-fast roller coaster in the dark. Now it takes on a whole new level of fun!
I will take a photo of SSE with us out front (complete with a wild-eyed look of disbelief) in July and attach a caption that says "I can't believe it!! It's the STATUE OF ELCOT!" and will post it here for you :D:

Haha! After I told my family about the Elcot family, they took a pic of me outside SSE and I'm holding up my hand in the shape of an "L" for Elcot! Once I get all my pics downloaded I will share ;)

I once had a conversation with a SG about the "big ball" at EPCOT. She was certain that it was a hotel...she stayed there on her last visit.

That reminds me about a joke involving two cannibals and a missionary.

It always annoys me to be standing in another park/resort other than MK... when the SG goes "we're going to disney tomorrow!"... where the hell do you think you are now???

But Elcot isn't part of Disney.
Elcot is "a hamlet in Berkshire, England, and part of the civil parish of Kintbury. It is also an internationally acclaimed tourism hotspot due to the presence of the Elcot Park Hotel."
Elcot is "a wholly owned Government of Tamil Nadu Undertaking, registered under the Indian Companies Act(1956). ELCOT is the nodal agency for Information and Communication Technology projects for the Government of Tamilnadu."
Elcot is "a Puzzled Penguin in the openSUSE Forums."
But Elcot is not part of Disney.

When we're walking in the vicinity of the Giant Ball of Siemens, I like to discuss with Mr. Syndrome how amazing it is that the ball looks so big but is actually so light and how cool it was when they rolled it in and easily lifted it into place. I always imagine SGs repeating that nonsense to their friends and neighbors as gospel.

I like it.
Maybe you could expand it, talking about how cool it is each night when they roll it into the SSLagoon at the end of Illumiinations...give them a deadline to know/figure out they're morons.

Or you could go on about guessing how long it takes to inflate it every morning.

Inflate it?
Noooooo!!
the just roll it to the lagoon, and then on a barge, where it is stored in its own hanger every night..
where the night crew cleans and polishes it...
and the next morning it is barged back...
then rolled into position.
they plug in the power...
and back to work!!!
hehehehhehe

That shows how stupid I am!
I always thought they probably roll it over on top of the fountain and turn the fountain on to clean it. I just figured it was one of those balls that looks suspended on the streams of water, rolling around. Getting all clean and shiny!
What a moron I am! Should have know it takes a night crew to clean it.

Your all wrong. Every night SSE is lowered into the underground maintenance area and cleaned and polished and repaired.
It's really cool to see. the mirror center lifts SSE up and the legs then fold away from it. it is then lowered down in to the big hole in the ground. In the morning it is raised up the legs fold back into place and it is lowered down onto them.

I have the true answer.
In the early 1980s, there was a huge risk of war with the USSR, called the Cold War. Unbeknownst to many, Spaceship Earth was made to metamorphisize into a Transformers-stylee robot, ready to take to the skies at any given moment. When the Cold War ended in the early 90s, the ability was disabled. Now, the system is used to move SSE into the Cleaning Zone, ready for the next day. This is also where the rainwater is deposited.

I do have to confess that once upon a time, Mr. Syndrome actually believe that all of Epcot was in that ball. This was long before I knew him and before he had any desire to ever actually see Disney World. As soon as we got married, I dragged his butt down to Florida, booked a room at Wilderness Lodge and had The Chip installed overnight. Now he's a good Disney-loving kind of guy who is ashamed of his past Stupid Guest Assumption.
