View Full Version : Ropes and rails are there for a reason!

This afternoon I was in the Firehouse during the parade. Right in front of there is a reserved section (for whom I don't know anymore, used to be for the Grand Marshals when the parade ran in the other direction) marked off with ropes. This woman was in the section and during the parade decided the duck the rope between her and the parade for a picture or something equally unimportant. Naturally I tell her she has to get back on the other side of the rope as she's in the parade route. She gets mad and starts telling me she spent X amount of money and something about there being people in the section there shouldn't be. Who is in the section isn't my worry, that's PAC's job. My job is to sell stuff and keep guests safe (which is the #1 job of all CMs).

I tried to tell her it was for her own safety but she wouldn't listen. A GR CM who was in the shop by the front doors and saw what happened stepped forward so I walked away and let her handle the guest. I don't give a damn how much someone spent, I'm not going to let them risk getting run over by a multi-ton parade float. I wanted to tell the guest something along the lines of "and it would be a shame to spend so much money and have your vacation ruined because you got ran over by a float". AFAIK no guest has ever been struck by a parade float and I don't want it to ever happen.

On my way out tonight I ran into a Photopass CM I know. He told me he had been shooting by the Rose Garden a little earlier and apparently a lot of guests jumped the railing and crowded into the Rose Garden. He said no manager or coordinator came by the area for 45 minutes and he couldn't leave to call security or anybody. Finally a Main Street Ops CM came and cleared the garden out, right in the middle of fireworks. The Photopass CM said the rose bushes got trampled. He said he's never seen that happen in his 4 years at Disney, not even on the 4th of July or other holidays. I feel sorry for the horticulture CMs who are now going to have to repair the damage to the rose bushes caused by SGs who don't understand that there's a railing there for a reason.

I have seen my share of SG climbing on the walls on BTRR. Some SG were climbing up the sides to see who can get to the tracks first. Yup! They made it, cast members had to e-stop and have the SG removed for their safety. It's too bad that they closed down Discovery Zone, they would had fitted in perfectlly.

I HATE when guests can't follow the rules/safety instructions, and leave their common sense at home. Because who in their right mind would WANT to stand in the middle of the street with a ____ton float coming their way.

This was the one thing that drove me crazy while doing PAC- people who HAVE to get across the street now, even though there is a crosswalk just down the way.

I was working New Years Eve 2007/2008 at Main Street PAC. I was assigned to the hub corner ( where the lfoats make their right turn into the hub ) and I was ushering guests off the street and onto the side walk... The lights just dimmed out due to spectro entering my zone, and a guest and his family came walking down the center towards me... I nicely asked in my very best Disney voice... Please step onto the side walk the parade is comming....

Guest: "I dont have to do a GD thisng you tell me to"

ME: "Sir.. you and your family need to be on the side walk for your safety

Guest: What part of what I said dont you understand...

ME: Sir... you and your family are to be on the side walk now.. the Parade is behind me and the will stop the parade, turn it around and cancle it... and all 70k guest that are the park will be looking at you! now please get on.....

It never fails to amaze me how SG these folks can be. We have a favorite place to watch the MK parade at night. Invariably, as the parade nears folks start trying to cross in front, between and behind the floats. I have real sympathy for the CM's trying to deal with them. It also amazes me the number of these folks who think that they're are going to get between me and the safety ropes when the parade starts. "I'm sorry. What part of NO Way did you not understand?" That's why I have a grip on the rope, Bozo.

Ropes and rails are there for a reason!

And that reason is NOT to sit on, climb on, swing on, shake and jerk around hitting others in line ect. Just stand still in line, walk forward, then board the ride.

At Knott's I remember guests who couldn't figure out why we can't stop a ride on a dime. More than once I had to explain that it is a simple law of physics that the heavier and faster an object is, the more time, distance and force is needed to bring it to a complete stop. And no, I never took physics. All I know is what I pick up along the way.

Apparently, ropes mean NOTHING to SGs!! yesterday, I was waiting for the fireworks on a bench and SGs keep coming through the VIP area, eventhough it was roped off and there was a row of benches and trash cans were blocking their way. THEY STILL KEPT COMING!!!! I mean, what does a barricade of benches mean to a SGs??

I agree. Some people are just idiots. This Me Me Me society we live in now is sickening. This is my first post but what a great one to join right in on!:p: I have been lurking for quite awhile now and am still amazed at some of the things I read on here. Some things I have witnessed in the parks myself. I am up to two times a year now. Family only goes once as I leave hubby and daughter behind in Oct and meet up with my buddy from Pennsylvania (we met on the disboards) and our buddies from the BWI. The line cutting or "meeting up with the rest of the party" always gets me but we did witness one day a guest go postal and scream at this poor CM at the Idol Experience. Why? For doing his job. They decided to forego the line and start climbing over the chains. He stood his ground and nicely asked for them to go to the back of the line. She started yelling "You don't have to scream in my face. You are a jerk." She was twice as big as him. What would have happened if they would have fallen? They would have sued I am sure. We just looked at them along with the rest of the crowd and then told them to chill and move to the back of the line. It was unreal. I know you guys put up with it every day but when I see a CM being abused I will speak up. When we have a great experience like we did with Mike from Guest Relations, I emailed corporate and actually got a call from them. They thanked me for a good response because they usually get so many bad ones. You guys are the best and keep up the good work. Unlike on the Disboards, in May we did not run into one grouchy CM, thought the parks were kept up great, and the food was wonderful. 2,653 more days and we are moving so we can retire working for Disney as soon as daughter graduates from high school. Right now she wants to be a vet at the Animal Kingdom as well:D:

I have to agree with this one!!!! We just got back from two weeks in the world. That was the one thing that bothered me more than anything. Worst one from my standpoint was watching a HUGE family go through the single rider line for the ski lift at BB. First person got in ride for the raft ride. Then you had a continual stream of the other single riders walking through to the front until their whole party was there and commandeered their 3 rafts!

If just once during the day I had seen a CM stop them from doing that I would have been happy. Probably if it happens once, they may not do it again.

But, I will also agree that this was the best trip I had recently from the CM standpoint. Never had anyone that was less than very good. Some were just fantastic!

We saw many but one of the best ones was a lady pushing her way through the line at Splash Mountain. We were already inside and in the Fastpass line. It had stopped because of the storm. It was quite funny that my daughter and her friend we had brought with us tried to form a barracade and not let her through. I guess they had heard too many comments from my friend, her husband & I over the week. The lady said "Excuse me, I need to get through." I replied. "Yes, we love it when people cut in line." Of course my husband starts to act like he doesn't know me. "I am not cutting in line. I am catching up with my group." I reply "You are cutting. When you have to walk in front of people you are cutting in line. If you had common courtesy for others the rest of your party would wait for you until you are ready and you would all get in line together." She was done talking after that. An adult that has to take a kid for a bathroom brake I have no problem with but running to get fastpasses, shopping, eating while others stand in line, to me that is just not right. My daughter has stood in every line since she was 4.

I had a group of 14 once at Universal while waiting for the Mummy. Miss Teeny Bopper and friend were in front of me, and one friend joined them. Okay, that's not enough to get bent out of shape about. Then two more came and Mr. Sydrome and I said, "Nope." They whined, "But there are 14 of us coming!" We said, "Well, you'll darned well come behind us then." They moved behind us and the party directly behind us, who rode on our coattails. No one else had the nads to say anything.

I agree, and while we are it let's bargain for character attendants to have one too. Between this week and the last I have had to defuse three screaming adults ready to launch at each other. Then I had to screech at people a bazillion times for their character treatment. All of the fights have been because someone cut in line and other people got pissed off. Problem is that other guest get nervous that they start a fight and their children are harmed someway. As a parent that is understandable. As a cast member it gives me a chance to first use my polite Disney voice and then when they ignore me, then scream for it stop. All while I pray for someone from security to grace me with their presence (they never do).

The rope/fence/chain jumping pi$$ me off in soooo many levels. First, what the hell is wrong with parents that don't tell off their children for it. Second, what type of brain cells are parents missing that they scream at CM when their kids, or them, are called out for doing something wrong.

This week I had several people scream at me because the bathroom was too far away. Listen lady, architectural design wasn't my mayor in College. I only know where the bathrooms.

It seems the extreme heat diffuse what little brain some SG had.

Second, was waiting on Lagoon @ Kingdom at exit, 3 idiots decide they want to ride up front on the train so they open the gate and stand by the gate console. Train leaves (Blue Sorcerer Hat was the driver for those that know what I mean) with them standing there. CM across the beam starts yelling get out of there go through the gate. They just respond we want to ride in the front. I open the gate for them since they can't figure it out and they get back on the right side of things. My entire party is laughing at them, I had just finished explaining how even CMs can't be inside the cage when the station is empty.

All I know, if you are sitting on a wall and it is higher than 4 feet, theme park officials will tell you to come off the area for your own safety. I have seen SG climb the walls in the Gadget Coaster que and be repeatedly reminded to get off the walls. If they ignore the warnings, the ride stops, security is called and the SG is removed.

Why is it always when I eat lunch at the mexican restaurant, you can hear the BTRR cast member say: Please remain seated with your legs and body under the safety bar? Who is this lame to do it? Usually, I have seen SG get canned and removed for their stupidity.

What I can't figure out is where does it say the following for each stupid task? If you are at a hot foods cart, why sit on the cart that has moving wheels and why grab soft drinks out of a beverage cart when you see a cast member grabbing for the drinks? A) the food cart is not a go cart and B) if that cast member is taking out the drinks, it is not made for SG who can out smart the CM when the SG wants more attention. Go ahead and beat the others in line, if you cute your hand on some thing sharp, too bad. There is a rule, let the cast members get the beverage out. If you blow their warnings, you are done dude!

There are plenty of SGs stupid enough to do that on roller coasters, and some get removed from the gene pool due to their stupidity. I'm thinking specifically of the Idiot Girl who decided to change seats on the Timber Wolf roller coaster at Worlds of Fun while the ride was in motion. Idiot Girl is no longer with us, and her mother actually had enough of a sack to picket the park. Uh, Momsie, your moron child was responsible for her own death...but I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
