Ok, so my son and I are on the Jungle Cruise on Tuesday and we're sitting next to this bald guy who's wearing his sunglasses on his head. At the end of the ride he stands up, turns around and I hear "splash." He starts throwing this minor hissy fit and I think his camcorder must have gone in. The "Cruise Director" takes immediate interest in his situation, until he says his sunglasses have fallen in. I swear he must have wanted her to jump in after them! Her comment? "Well, they either sink or they float. I guess yours sank. I'm really sorry sir." I guess he realized his precious shades were gone and hung his head and left. I think he may have even cried. I know sunglasses can be expensive, but he was bald! This can't have been the first time they've fallen off!

The CM running the boat was really cool, by the way. Some blonde girl, her name escapes me.

Heh, this is why I only spend a dollar on my sunglasses. Right now I have a really beat up pair of old CHIP Cruiser/Aviator glasses that I bought from the Dollar Tree (shut up!). If I ever do lose them, yah, It's gonna suck for the rest of the day because I don't have a pair of sunglasses, but....I can always buy new ones.

Kinda pathetic that he cried over his lost sunglasses.

By any chance did the CM running the boat have long blonde hair? I had her once and she was funny/cool.

The most I have ever spent on a pair of sunglasses is 20 bucks. And I only wore them for like a week before I got tired of them. My current glasses are the coolest glasses ever and I got them for free (I love the lost and found bin at work).

ya know there's this great little invention that one of my friends refers to as "idiot cords" which attaches to the ends of your glasses so you don't lose them...they kept me from constantly losing my RayBans in the flumes...

if the guy lost his sunglasses, it's his own damn fault for not being proactive...jeeze...or at the very least - CAREFUL...

lest you think that I spend too much on my sunglasses, I was under eye doctor's orders to wear the most protective ones that I could find as I have a condition that could turn into a cataract if my eyes aren't protected from the sun (they HATED that in Fantasyland)...sorry Ms A-Lead, it's in my medical file...

Haha I have sunglasses from Dollar Tree too! Hey, nothing wrong with cheap stuff. My watch is one of those under $10 ones from walmart, it's lasted thru all the hell I put it thru at work and still works, I've had it for about a year and a half now. When I first started I had a nice expensive watch and it lasted only 3 months.

I porbably claimed a good 9 or 10 pairs of nice ray-bans and oakleys from lost and found during my time at D-land. Lost ALL of them in the Jungle Cruise.

I always wanted to be there for the draining of the water during a rehab, they must find a BUTTLOAD of cool stuff.

Well, my dogs (Old English Sheepdogs) ate my $900 transitions, multi focal prescription glasses. $1100 dollars later (insurance only pays for frames every 2 years) I now have two pairs, s presciption sunglass pair and a prescription regular pair, now, if anything happens to one pair, I at least have the second pair, though it will look a little silly to wear sunglasses at work, but oh well!

But you could pretty well be assured that if my sunglassed fell in the jungle cruise waters, I'd go in after them, but then I'd sink since I'm in a wheelchair!

I kid you not, I had a friend, and I swear it wasn't me, who took home a pair of Gucci sunglasses she took out of the lost and found box. She decieded she didn't want them after all and took them to Norstroms because they take anything back without a receipt(you get store credit). So she told them she didn't like them but lost the receipt and they gave her $280 in store credit. HOLY CRAP. Somebody is going to H$LL

And as for the draining of the river, since it doesn't happen that often, most of the items in there are nasty. Wallets, cameras, phones, camcorders, sunglasses, small children. And there also is an ASSLOAD of dead fish, and the occational dead duck. YUMMY

They found a VCR and I heard they found a car door too. One of the canoe guys told me that a lady lost her really expensive wedding ring. I wonder if that ever turned up.

*sigh* Its amazing the stuff people will just let drop into the canal. On Storybook, Ive seen people drop cameras in the canal. Than when people drop stuff at the dock they look at you like you can get it back. HA! Please...

Haha, fish chunks.

There are definitely fish in the JC river. One of my favorite things to do at night was shine the light on one of the cool looking herons that inhabit the river and make some joke about how real it looked. Well one night, I shine the light at one and am not really looking at it while I spiel. Everybody is real quiet so I look back at the Heron and it had a GIGANTIC fish in it's mouth, it was squirming its death throes....I thought it was funny later on.

I always buy my sunglasses from the Team Center for two reasons: 1. I can for sure wear them at work and 2. They're cheap! I usually lose or break mine within a month anyways, so I see no point in spending several hundred dollars on a pair of designer sunglasses.

Did you guys get the new sunglasses rule that we did? "when not wearing them over your eyes, they must be put away out of sight of guests and other CMs and managers" Like half of our costumes have a place to put sunglasses.

Just read the sunglasses guidelines on the Cast Portal. Didn't see anything resembling that.

It's in there...on this page (https://enterpriseportal.disney.com/site/dlr/index.jsp?epi-content=GENERIC&beanID=1074&viewID=view_detail_targeted&depth1=2&content1=97403&xform=wdw/wdw_policy.xsl&displayname=All+Cast+Members+&xformloc=common#eyewear) under eywear.

Sunglasses are to not to be worn at night, in dark areas, or indoors, and when engaging in extended interaction with a Guest, should be removed if possible. Sunglasses should not be visible when not in use.

That being said, I regularly wear my sunglasses on my head at night when not in use. Frequently I have simply forgotten that I am wearing them, but it is also easier than finding a place on my person to stash them.

Additionally I've worn them at night too. I was working around Fantasmic! and had a headache and really didn't want bright light in my eyes. Conveiniently enough, a guest asked me about it about a second before the really bright burst of green fire during the Malificent scene hit...he understood after I told him "That's why".

Yes, that's it right there. 8) <-- the smiley is being good with his sunglasses :)

I've always worn them on my head, for the first year I was there I had Oakleys, they weren't going in a pocket. I've not worn them in quite a while because of the nice scratches they got. :(

I just bought photo-gray lenses for my prescription glasses. The only way I can lose the "sunglasses" is to go blind.

Since I'm not in management, this actually makes a bit of a difference.

At DLP, you are not allowed to wear sunglasses unless you have a special permit to do so (like I had since I was juggling all the time). I don't know why, but I guess it is because a lot of people find they disctract from the theming of the place and that people want to see your eyes when they talk to you...

geez, I'd go crazy. I'm always wearing my sunglasses, even if it's partly cloudy out.

BUNNY! I said "claimed" not "stolen from". I was a hijinker, not a thief! Don't you guys still have the 90 day claim rule at lost and found for the cast member that turns in the loot?

I collected so much stuff from putting my name in at lost and found, cameras, sunglasses, money, backpacks. It's ridiculous how many people just didn't check at lost and found for their item.

Had a guest at Splash once drop her sunglasses in the flume at load. Not only did it fall between the front log and the back log, but it fell down into the drum that spins the front dispatch belt. Once the air gates opened for them to board, her huband jumped on the front of the log and tried to stick his arm in the water and down into the drum, about 18 inches, near MOVING parts to get her sunglasses. Looking back I should have let him, and then hit an Estop as soon as his hand hit the water, but I acctually care back then. So I had tower do a single dispatch and with the front log out of the station was, had dispatch put in an inhibit, station stop and a ride stop and keep the hand over the Estop just in case. I wasn't just gonna stick my arm down there, ya know. So with my arm in up to about my shoulder, in the dispatch belt drum, I retrieved there glasses. And did I get a thank you, no. But the rest of the station was cheering and clapping cause the all had to watch while I did this. Thank Stupid Guests.

Of course you didn't get a thanks. The guest was a selfish bastard that thought only about himself. If the guest had thought anything about what other people had to go through perhaps he would have just wrote the sunglasses off.

Although I do like the idea of just telling them that they fell into a moving park and they are gone. Then hitting the E-Stop if he touches the water. You could say after the past few days that I'm a bit bitter about the guests.

Risk loosing an arm for a pair of sunglasses...makes sense. You can go into almost any mini-mart and buy a new arm...but sunglasses, now those are hard to replace.

do they put fish in the water on purpose?! why??

SpaceRanger
04-12-2004, 12:57 AM
I know they put them there on purpose... not sure why tho. I know in horse and cattle pastures where the animals have a large water trough to drink from, you put fish in the trough to help keep it cleaner, and also to help keep down the mosquitos, so it could be something similar...
