Since some of us might not be able to be on SGT tomorrow I thought I would say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
I am thankful for what health I have, a car that still runs, freedom, my mom, cheeseburgers, friends, a new president, the house partly painted, a working heater, and a roof over my head.
Hugs to my few dearest friends and chocolates to all.
I have dibs on the turkey leg and smashed potatos.

Thanksgiving hugs to you, too, Churchy!

What is everyone doing? I'll be going down to San Diego to spend the weekend with my daughter.
Love to all our CM friends who have to work.

Yay for turkey!
I am working on Thursday but my kiddos are coming over on Friday.
Mmm, I can't wait to start making deviled eggs and bacon wrapped breadsticks for munchies until the turkey's done.
YUM!
Best wishes to all on this day.

We're having friends from the Mainland over for dinner. We're expecting six but there may be locals that show up too.

If I make it in time it will be turkey dinner for her and steak for me.
If not I cook and it is mystery meat and risotto and veggies or beans or boiled taters or creamed corn. I improvise a lot.
The buildabear turkey is all mine and I will start with the leg, chomp chomp.
Happy thanksgiving again to all.
Psst, Purpura since you can pig out on stuffing that means the taters are MINE ALL MINE and I want them to be regular taters.

After traveling for 5 hours on the road to the parental units' home yesterday(usually only takes 2) we were treated to a flash flood and power outtage!
Went out for turkey today with parents.....Passed by many of the recently burnt down homes on the way, have got to count our blessings:(
Hope everyone out there is safe and warm and had a nice turkey day:)

I got off work and had the following with my in laws, hubby and his grandmother and our daughter. I had ham, green beans, fruit salad, scalloped potatoes, and banana pudding last night for dinner nom nom nom My in laws decided to wait for Thanksgiving dinner until I was off!
Ok Churchy you can have your plain taters :) You really want to eat a buildabear turkey? That'd be full of cotton stuffing, not real meat :p:
My daughter said after dinner we would go around the table and tell what we were thankful for. and we did. She said mostly she was thankful for family and love and for me. :o:
Also at 10 AM Yesterday there was a parade for "Pumpkin" the turkey on Main Street USA. He sat on the float staring at everything according to one of my fellow cast members, a cashier at Plaza Inn. Pumpkin is a large bird with white feathers.

Belated Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I wanted to post early but I've been busier than a turkey with its head cut off (or is that a chicken with its legs cut off ???)
Of course my Lions got their asses handed to them on a platter. (I knew I should have watched a movie with the G-kids)
I'm going to get an early start, MERRY CHRISTMAS.

DESSERT WAS A HOT FUDGE SUNDAE.
DIET OR REGULAR?:hysteria:
We wants the recipes!I'll teach you to be more specific!
Roast Duck a la Zazu
Send Donald out for a couple of days, then buy a duck (preferably dead).
Skin the duck, removing as much fat as possible. Cut off the ends of the wings, as there's not enough there to be worth cooking. Wash clean and pat dry (or the marinade won't stick). Coat with Marinade (below). Place in refrigerator at least overnight. Stuff (below) and roast at 325 degrees for about 90 minutes (depending on your oven). Let rest for ten minutes, then carve and serve.
Marinade
Mix equal parts honey and ground cumin. You may also add to taste such items as ground cloves, cinnamon, ground or finely chopped rosemary or sage, but probably not all of them. Do not add salt! Use the least honey necessary to make the mix all work -- it's a binder, not a sweetener.
Stuffing
To each his own, and I own a different formula each year. This year it was:
half a large onion
several large carrots
half a butternut squash
small handful of pecans
one spicy sausage (I used chorizo)
Chop all coarsely and set aside. Use the squash for a guide, you should have the same volume of the last four items and twice as much onion.
Prepare some mushrooms. This year I used dried porcini mushrooms, which need to be reconstituted by boiling in liquid for five minutes. Drain, chop, and set with other items above.
While you can boil the mushrooms in sherry, I used one box of chicken broth. However you do the mushrooms, heat the box of chicken broth anyway.
Put the onions in a large pot with twice as much butter as you think they deserve. Oil isn't a good substitute here, as you want the butter for the cornbread. Sweat the onions, but stop before they start to brown.
Add the other veggies and nuts except the mushrooms, and enough stock to cover. Simmer until the carrots are half done, seasoning to taste. The same mix used for the marinade is a good start. This time you may add salt if you like, but go light.
Remove from the heat, add the mushrooms and cornbread, mix. Add more hot stock slowly until the mix starts to make balls that stick together.
Stuff it!
Serves two with leftovers, four if there are lots of side dishes.

The answer is that you can regularly have a diet but cannot diet regularly.

My second youngest sister took over this year and made dinner. If you entered the kitchen, you would get kicked out or suddenly become her cooking slave. I wondered into the kitchen to get a glass of water. I ended up peeling 14 large potatoes and toasting 1 loaf of bread in the toaster. She made some scary stuffing, I did not eat because almost all the gross stuff from the turkey went into it.
But dinner was good. After 3 servings of food, I had a nice slice of apple pie and whipped cream. Add 3 bottles of champaine and the room starts to spin.

We wants the recipes!
Deviled eggs are pretty basic, but bacon wrapped breadsticks? Simple to make, but make a lot. They don't stay around for long at all.
(For 1 batch, use more if more folks are showing up)
1 box of breadsticks
1 package of thin sliced bacon
Parma cheese
Take a package of hard breadsticks (any flavor, garlic is best) and wrap each one with a strip of bacon. Bake in oven at 350degrees for 30 minutes. After removing from oven, immediately roll in parma cheese. Place on plate and stand back.
Yeah, it'll kill ya, but they taste SO GOOD!

That sounds very good. Have your tried the chocolate cake at the French Market in New Orleans Square? It is very tastey and rich. :)

I forgot to ask, did anyone make these?
I know I couldn't have been the only one killing my diet.

I know I couldn't have been the only one killing my diet.I not only made Duck a la Zazu for Thanksgiving, I made it again today for Christmas.
Yeah, I know, it's a bit late. Life here a Chez Zazu sometimes gets... complicated.

Oh, I am visiting my side of the family on Thurs. Yep, New Year's Day to celebrate Christmas. So you're aren't really too late.
Thank goodness I have DVR to record the Rose Parade! I'll need to have something to take my mind off the nonsense after that.
I love my family really, but holidays remind me of why we all live far apart.
