I was working the exit gate a Studio late this morning and a couple came and asked which bus to take to Universal.

Rather than telling them what to take, I told them we did not have any buses going there, and they would either have to drive or take a taxi, which would be around $35.00.

They seem surprised and thought Disney provided transportation between parks. I told them that Universal was a separate and competing corporation; not part of Disney.

They said they had a ticket for Universal. I asked to see the tickets and they each had a one day park hopper. They said the person who sold them the tickets said they were god at all the parks.

They finally left, I think they were going to end up at MK.

(And for those interested, to get to Universal from DHS you take the bus to TTC, change to the Lynx #50 which will stop at DTD, Sea World and then express to the Lynx Downtown Orlando Central Terminal. Then you connect to Lynx #40 which is a local from Central Terminal to Universal. Total elapsed time, not including waiting for connections, is about 2½ hours.)

Being a FL resident and had taken more trips to WDW than I can count before becoming a CM, it's a given that I know Universal, Seaworld, etc are completely different things from the WDW Resort. I sometimes try to give the benefit of a doubt from visitors who had never been - but still, it get pretty annoyed by people who make such assumptions. Geez people, do a little research will ya!

I tend to think these are the same individuals who go to Italy and ask where the Leaning Tower of Pisa is and what are the walking directions to there when checking out the canals in Venice.

Tooo Funny!! Since the SG's didn't seem to believe you, you should have just told them that the park was closed for repairs!! (heheheeeee!!)

OR that they were not godlike at couldn't do a universal transfer to another corporation!!! (sorry, saw the gaff and took it!!!)

LMMEO.....you do realize that you are never going to live that down:p:

As to the SG's....Now if I had a million bucks to throw around I might just have a TA make me reservations, damn the costs, but common sense and safety sense says not to just go to a totally strange place and have no idea of your surroundings. then again we are talking SG's here.

Exerp from my insaine rantings... and a conversation with a former Bus Driver..

SG: Excuse me... what bus do i take to get to Universal Studios from here?

CM: Well, You take the #69 bus to the TTC at the EPCOT boat dock. From their you take Monorail Pink to International Drive. Then walk 1 block to Universal's Main Gate.

SG: About how long will this take....

CM: If you leave now you should be their in about an hour.

I have no idea to the truth behind the story but this is what was told to me that this individual actually did....

Right there shows how much the person was actually paying attention. Any person thinking when listening to that would immediately find something wrong with taking a bus from a boat dock. But I guess thats what happens when you check your brain at the gate.

SGs and their confusion about the word PARK and what is and isn't included in a particular destination is nothing new.

When I was young my family was vacationing in Rocky Mt. National Park. One day when were in the visitors center we overheard this conversation between an SG and a park ranger at the information desk.

SG (hustling in the door in a hurry): Where's the park?

Ranger: All around you. You are in the park.

SG: No, where is the Park?

Ranger (looking confused): Well, there is the town of Estes Park just down the road to the east.

SG: No. I want the PARK!

Ranger: Mam, you are IN Rocky Mt. National Park. It is all around you.

SG: This isn't the park! Where is the ferris wheel, the carousel, the rides!

Ranger: This isn't that kind of park. Rocky Mt National Park is an outdoor, wilderness recreation and conservation park, not an amusement park.

SG (getting VERY loud at this point): You're lying to me. I KNOW there is a park here and you WILL tell me where it is. If you don't I'll call the police and have them FORCE you to tell me where it is!

(At this point my parents realized that what was about to be said and done was not for the tender ears of my younger sister and my young self and gently herded us into the small movie theatre to watch the last half of the movie presentation about the plants and animals of the park.)

Thanks for the chuckle this AM Randy...that is funny and I can see some ppl I know saying that. I need new friends:rolleyes:.

I have told this one before but it bears telling again. Donnie works for Advance Auto Parts. Lady calls in wanting brakes for her car. Back brakes as she puts it. Donnie looks up the parts and tells her how much it will be for her rear brakes. NO, I dont want rear brakes, I want BACK brakes. Mam, they are the same thing. NO I want BACK brakes. :rolleyes:Makes you wonder at times if they have ever read a dictionary in their life. These are the ppl whom they eventually give the number of a competing parts store to saying that they may have the part the SG is looking for.

Then there is my parents that insist that AK is all there is to "that Disney park". I have even showed them a map and they still dont believe me. They didnt like that zoo. "All we did was ride a train and eat at some German restaurant with animals in it."
Let me translate that for you......they went about 8 years ago ,(AK 1/2 what it is now) spent about 3 hours there, rode the train out to Conservation Station (never went anywhere but at the train station and got right back on), ate at the Rainforest Cafe (took me almost a year of my mom saying German restaurant to finally figure our where they had been)
Seriously I even showed them on a full map and smaller individual ones and they still insist that that is all there is to WDW.

Now the topper.......
Last time they were here visiting we mentioned about going down again. "Well why dont you go to the one with the castle this time, or Sea World, or the movie one" Oh you mean MGM (DS) ?( I just like to bait them to see what gem they will come up with next) "Yeah Universal" Now I didnt see that coming:rolleyes: Mind you the castle bit came AFTER we showed them the pics from Sept with us standing in front of the darn thing. Anyone got some parents I can trade with? Preferably ones that can read a map.

That would have been funny, as park rangers ARE the law enforcement presence in national parks!!

Reminds me of a similer experience when DW and I were at Denali park in Alaska. A cruise ship had dropped off a bunch of serious SG's at the nature center in the park, which is a jumping off point for a bus ride through kodachrome pass to see the peak. These are "no-frills" school type busses, bring your own lunch and water! (NO facilities except toilets at stops) the trip out and back is about seven hours. the bus stops when you encounter wildlife (for picture taking) SG lady shows up in a faux "sailor" outfit, complete with jacket with sholder tabs and captains hat, gold trim, etc. Cruise line gives them a "box" lunch and sends them on the way. She, and others, are on our bus.

Everyone is dressed in hiking boots/shoes and layered clothing, as it gets COLD with the wind etc. SG wants to know what time the animal show is!! and why the mother bear and cubs that we stopped to take pictures of, didn't set up and wave at the bus!!! Duhhhhhh!!!!

(others from the ship told us she was just as ditzy on board the ship!)
She was heard to say after the end of the trip that she was VERY disappointed that the area wasn't more civilized!!!

?? IT was tooo funny, we did spot a bull moose that was trying to attract a mate. he was a few yards off the road. Said SG didn't understand WHAT he was doing, and had a hard time believing those of us that were a little more "up" on mother nature!! Got some great shots of sheep, and even got a fox that decided to walk by the bus while we were stopped!

Ohmigod! The neighbor from hell indeed!! He probably grew up in the backwoods in an old travel trailer with forty-seven-eleven hound dogs under the front steps and a whole lotta junk cars all over the yard. Vixen101485- OMG! Your story about the redneck neighbor had me laughing. That reminded me about one of my neighbor's. I live in a condo complex. This neighbor was from hell. He thought it was cool to have loud music playing until 3 am daily. There were so many complaints to the management. Also, he got fined over $100 for each complaint he got. He finally slacked off paying his morgage and the bank bought back the unit. He was given a week to move out and get out. It was nice to see him go.:D:
