I went to a movie last week, and the newest trailer for WALL-E comes on beforehand. Great trailer, by the way -- lots more hints of the story, a lot more scenes with that adorable robot. It is so cute!! I may be a little worried though, because I've never been drawn to a Pixar movie from the trailer before, and I always end up liking their movies. Will I not like this one because the trailers make me want to see it???

But I digress.

So the trailer ends, and I hear the voice of a middle-aged women in the theater behind me: "So, is that a movie or a video game or what?"  :banghead:

Well, DUH! she must be wearing her SG goggles out in public.
The truth is, though, that it be most likely be both....what hasn't been turned into a video game (animated features)?

While you would think that if you were watching a MOVIE trailer, it would be for a MOVIE, nowadays, her question is not as dumb as it sounds.

Just about any movie, good and bad, gets made into a video game.

Especially now, when it seems like the first 15 or 20 minutes are now commercials, when it used to be coming attractions!!

Those royally annoys me. I already paid a good bit to see a movie and now I have to sit through commercials? The slide-show ads for local businesses and the quizzes shown before the lights go down don't bother me, that's good use of what would otherwise be a blank screen.

What bothers me is having to sit through actual commercials before the movie. If I want to watch commercials I'll stay home and watch TV, not shell out a good bit of cash on tickets and food. Show me previews of coming and current attractions, don't try to sell me some product.

I always say, I got Tivo so I don't have to watch commercials and I now I'm forced to watch them at the theater. Right before the movie starts and after all of the commercials and previews have run, my husband and I will often look at each other and ask what movie are we seeing again? I forgot.

Thats prolly why companies are now spending money on commercials at movies. So many people now have DVR and Tivo, so they can skip the commercials, but you can't avoid them at the movies unless you walk in 15 minutes after the "start time".

I was filling my tank at the GAS STATION today and had a commercial blasting at me from the gas pump! It was a commercial for the California Lottery.

Yeah, one of the shell stations near where I live had them installed, Gas pump network (who knew?) At first I thought I was on one of the Leno bits that he has done with those "pump tv's"

The BP stations here in FL have pump side commercials too! Luckily, it's an add on module to the pump and it does have a mute button.

Now if only I can get a mute button on my DW.

I haven't seen those in this part of the state, thankfully.

Once or twice I saw a talking version of the coupon dispensers at Albertson's. First time I saw it I was tempted to complain but it was late in the evening and I didn't feel like looking for a manager.

I haven't seen them in a while. I assume people did complain and the talking dispensers were removed.

Commercials on gas pumps? Filling up is annoying enough as it is with the price of gas but now some stations annoy their customers even more with commercials?

Not mention a distraction....Here in Cali you better be paying attention to who is around you instead of "watching TV" while you are pumping gas!
And does anyone else think that seeing a Movie playing clearly in the car ahead of you is a potential problem (stupid drivers everywhere her in LA. Like they need stuff to look at beside the other drivers, their phone and Starbucks Drink)

Yeah, I agree. Here in San diego, they pulled a guy over that was playing an X rated movie on the SUV's entertainment system, with the screens visible from outside and behind the vehicle!! (no one else was in the SUV watching )

That's disgusting! Has anyone seen the rubber anatomical parts that some really crude people hang from their trailer hitch? To make their truck look like a MALE truck? I wish a cop would pull them over, it is obscene.

SOmeone in my town has a set of those. Had my BF not pointed them out to tell me what they were I would have never noticed. Obscene, not really cause they are hard to tell what they are and see unless you are smack up behind the vehicle that has that "manly" feature, but weird and strange...definatley. Would I let Donnie put them on our truck...NO (I aint gonna be the one to explain to a 5 year old girl what they represent) but to each their own.

Ms. Matterhorn
02-08-2008, 01:53 PM
Well, I must have a dirty mind because I knew what they were right away from 50 feet. I still think they are obscene, and what do you say to a five year old that says, "What is that, mommy?"

vixen101485
02-08-2008, 02:07 PM
Well, you just say..."some stupid thing that person wanted to hang on the back of his truck" then quickly point out the pretty birdie flying by or the nice dress in the window of that shop. Kids get distracted very easily. Plus you could always look at the pretty birdie too.

My response when I was told what they were, "UGG,(pause) anyway, honey I think it would be better if we bought the tan couch as it wouldnt show as much dirt and not rip as easily as the black one." Seriously I thot about them for all of a millisecond then went back to the conversation we were having about couches. See when Donnie is driving he is my captive audience with no distractions of TV or being able to go to sleep and I take every advantage possible of that situation. :D:

I wish a cop would pull them over, it is obscene.I guess I've been driving around animals too much. I just don't care. To put them on your car makes it a male animal car, I get the joke. But things phase me less and less.

Now, today was the exception. I had heard about this many, many times, but never seen it. We're passing the Mandrills and the male picks a female. The only way to describe what was going on was that he was f***ing her. You couldn't really call it mating, and the part that made me laugh was not the seeing monkeys having sex. What made me laugh was the way he was spanking her. I mean, actually spanking her. You can't believe it until you see it. Even better, they weren't somewhere in back where you could just barely see it. No, they were out on the ledge, with nothing between the guests and the monkeys but air.

I then went a bit off script and said something like, "You can tell when an animal sanctuary is taking proper care of the animals in their care because they are comfortable enough to mate." Even with a truckload of people going by.

I don't know about you, but a propane-powered truck full of tourists going by every thirty seconds would completely ruin the mood for me.

Here's one from today:

I was watching Fool's Gold with my bf, and in the row directly in front of us was a group of pre-teen girls with one adult woman at the very end of the row. This was the group from Hades. At one end of the row the little girl had one of those phones with a full keypad and texted pretty much the entire time! This was a tiered theatre, so the light was blinding me and giving me a headache. The girl directly in front of me kept popping out her cell phone, I think she was texting too, but at least she would have it out for a second and then put it away, although it was still pretty distracting. I finally walked up to the other set of girls and politely asked them to put away the cell phone as the light was blinding me. This group of girls talked and whispered through the whole movie- another distraction. The last straw for me was when the adult lady took out some sort of plastic bags of food and started passing them down the row. I realize movie theatre food is expensive but a.) The girls already had food from the concession stand and b.) It was incredibly noisy, and she just kept pulling them out of her purse, there were enough bags for each of the around 10-12 girls to have one. I very nearly went and got an usher to vacate the whole freaking party, but why should I have to miss part of the movie because you can not comprehend basic movie going manners?! Since you obviously aren't paying attention, why don't you just go to blockbuster and watch a movie at home? It's cheaper.

Whew, I feel better!

We went to see Atonement tonight and there was an older couple sitting in front of us. The man kept waiting for the music to crescendo or a noisy scene and then he would make these horrible coughing/barking/hacking noises, which would usually continue after the music or noise from the movie stopped. I was almost to the point of kicking his chair a few times, but at least he was trying to make his yucky noises blend in with the movie. However, it would have been more courteous for him to wait until his lungs were clear before coming to a movie and making everyone listen to his hacking.

After having way too many similar encounters I gave up ever going to a movie in a theatre. Other than for a special occasion (such as a group of Disney fans having a meet at a opening week showing of Haunted Mansion) I have just refused to do theatres. I personally enjoy the movies much more by waiting a few months and getting the DVD so I can watch it in silence, comfort, and I have a much wider choice of snack material. And when you add in the ability to back a vid up when I encounter one of those "what was that?" moments, and can watch it many times at no additional cost, it works for me. Maybe that is why my DVD collection is beginning to resemble the main stacks of the Library of Congress.:D:

Good movie!!!!

DW gets me the old "B" SciFi movies when they finally convert them to DVD.

PLUS I discovered that Netflix has a bunch that you can either rent, or view ONLINE (helps to have high speed)

Plus A friend of mine sent me this web site, as he knew I like the old movies, it is sort of a tribute, don't know why they chose the song!!

It's the movie "It Came From Hollywood" It's been out of print since it's original VHS release and someone finally put it up on youtube.

It has Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Gilda Radner, and Cheech and Chong basically doing the MST3K thing about 10 years earlier.

Love this movie.

I have a 2 year old. The last time we took her to the movies was to try and see Shrek III. I spent over 1/2 the movie in the hallway with her, she just wasn't into it, I didn't think she would be, but being a cartoon we thought she might watch it, previous outings included Meet the Robinson's and Ratatouille. She sat through both of those (she wants to watch Ratatouille all the time at home now).

So the only time my wife and I go to the movies is when the sitter has a parents night out. However, my 2 year is a Hannah Montana fan. Guess where we were yesterday morning at 10:40...
