I haven't been around for a while because I've been insanely busy, but I just had to pop over and share this. A CM friend who works in the candy shop on Main Street had a woman come up to her and ask, "Do you have peanut brittle without any peanuts?"
I'm just not even sure what snide comment to make about that...I guess it just stands on its own.

Maybe it is a peanut allergy thing? But then again wouldn't the brittle part be manufactured in a factory that processes nuts as well? Mmmm peanut brittle...

We make our own peanut brittle in the Confectionery, and we do advise people with severe nut allergies to avoid any of the products we make ourselves (fudge, rice crispies, apples, strawberries, and peanut brittle) even if that product doesn't itself contain nuts because like you said, they are all prepared on the same surfaces.
Incidentally, if you want to smell the most heavenly candy smell in the world, come in when the kitchen is making caramel apples or peanut brittle (peanut brittle is made from caramel). The whole Confectionery fills up with it! The smell is stronger when they're making peanut brittle, I'm not sure why.
I've had a lot of guests ask for almond brittle, I've also had guests ask for plain brittle, but I've been lucky enough not to have a guest describe plain brittle as "peanut brittle without the peanuts".

The fresh fudge is behind the bulk counter; don't get the packaged fudge that's in the display, it's made in a factory somewhere. The same goes for the peanut brittle, the stuff we make is in hand tied bags on a table next to the kitchen, the factory stuff is over on the wall with the Goofy's Candy Company items.
Our flavor's of the month this month are Pirate Bone and Cherry Vanilla Walnut, I don't know what the flavors of the month in April are going to be (they don't have a set schedule). My favorite is just the old fashioned Peanut Butter fudge, though.
I'll be quiet now, I get a little excited when I start talking about candy.

It's chocolate fudge with Oreo cookies inside and candy bones on top. The guests are really loving the cherry walnut, it has whole cherries inside. When we make samples the cherry walnut disappears right away.

My favorite is when the ask for the things the candy is sitting on; I had a guest get very upset that we didn't sell the vanity that the Christmas candies were sitting on in the window. Unfortunately, due to a stupid cast member trick at the warehouse we are out of almost all the packaged products right now, but the kitchen gets their supplies from a different warehouse so we still have plenty of fudge, crispies, etc. Also the chocolates and Minnie's Bake Shop cookies don't come from the warehouse so we have plenty of them too.

It seems that's a really good spot to work for running into SGs. I always tell my friend I'd be fired within a day for bitch slapping someone.
Female Brittle Lady was a real winner...not only did she ask that inane question, but she was also chewing on something. Okay, not unusual. Probably eating a sample. But after browsing around, she handed my friend a couple candy wrappers and said "Thanks for the samples." Turns out she was eating stuff out of those bins where you do your own mix! Must have really thought they were samples, too, or she wouldn't have called attention to it like that.
I don't know how y'all deal with it every day without smacking the crap out of someone. At least as a GPCG (Gene Pool Cleansing Guest) I can clothesline heelie kids and wield a pointed umbrella at strollers with impunity.

Isn't that an amazing feeling? I have spent so many years running around doing what everyone else wanted to do that when we got to meander and do our own thing last time and spent extra time on Main Street I just fell in love with it completely. I see now what my grandparents saw in it all those years ago.
I aim to spend a good deal of time there on our April trip- looking for Dapper Dan sightings, visiting with the streetmosphere (I didn't remember there ever being as many folks out there as there were our last trip! Not only the mayor and is her name Hildegard? But I saw other ladies out in the street in gorgeous costumes too) And I want to spend more time in the street at the Studios hunting up Streetmosphere there too.
Hilarious thing from our last trip: My husband is wheeling me into the Studios and I'm holding my forearm crutch over my lap (I wish they'd put a holder for the damn things on the side of the chair already!) and we go up and the director is in his chair and before I see him I hear through the bullhorn. . . "And here, ladies and gentlemen we have Hollywood's preeminent stunt woman. Sorry about the accident."
ROFLMAO
We bantered back and forth and I told him that I told CB I was never going to work with him again, and the director was just insisting that it was not his fault ROFL.
Those are the moments you can't plan, and why I firmly believe now that over-planning and over-scheduling WDW trips to 'make magic happen' can actually work against you, and prevent the most magical moments, which can in most cases only happen by chance.
Take that stroll down Main Street at your own pace, Shorty, and enjoy it! And tell us all about it afterward :)

Love the interraction.
As to the crutch/cane holder on the side of a WC, I ave an idea. A piece of PVC pipe that the foot of the crutch will fit inside. A cap on the bottom (with a drain hole to prevent it becomein a rain gage). The tube needs to be slightly less than the length of the WC frame from the top of the fabric seat back at the hand grip to the bottom of the back frame piece. A webbing loop at the top loops over the hand grip and is stopped from sliding on down the frame by the seat back. A velcro strap attaches around the arm rest where it attaches to the frame back. And lastly another velcro strap at the bottom to hold it to the frame at the bottom (so the cane can't become top heavy and flip the holder over).
It wouldn't be too hard to make such a thing and would be installable on nearly any chair. In fact you may want to have two. One for the crutch and one for an umbrella. And being made from PVC plastic and webbing it would be light and easy to carry along until a chair is obtained. In fact it may even be able to be hung on the crutch itself for non-WC travel.

I can't tell you how many times my crutch has slipped, the rubber tip hits the ground as the chair is rolling and then the cuff smacks me in the face.

I use the mega size to hold 50 foot extension cords with no problem. they could certanily hold the weight of crutches, and you could clamp them in place quickly!!

I use the mega size to hold 50 foot extension cords with no problem. they could certanily hold the weight of crutches, and you could clamp them in place quickly!!
http://www.cableclamp.com/
They sell them at Walmart and Sears, to name a few places!!
(The really small ones are great for at the electrical charges when we travel!)
Oh hey now, that sounds like something I'm definitely going to have to look into! Thank you Pirate!!! Even thought my husband still teases me for saying "Sea-ers" instead of "Seers" when I pronounce the name (it's a two syllable word in this state, I'm sorry!) he might still take me there to get one of those dealeos!
You guys may seriously have saved my front teeth, or my nose which is enough a tribute to my British heritage it does NOT need any more help.
Though the idea of using it to poke SG's has occurred to me on several occasions if I'm being honest. . .but I would never do it.
Except if I could go back and whack the guy who burned me with his cigarette by walking next to my chair in a crowd and holding it far and away backward from him. THen I might use it.
I heard the sound before I felt the pain *cringe* spent half the afternoon at first aid getting ice packs.
Now here's a. . . well I won't say, "Stupid" CM moment but I will say "dippy".
I went to first aid in Epcot. Lady asks what my problem is.
I say, I need an ice pack please, I got burned by a cigarette.
She frowns at me and says "That's why you shouldn't smoke."
and I said "no, not MY cigarette. I don't smoke."
She still clucked her tongue at me as if I had burned my own arm with a cigarette just for fun *smacks forehead*

I was so grateful that she had an icepack that she could have looked at me square in the face and called me an idiot and I wouldn't have cared LOL
Ever been burned by one? man that's painful.
Every time it was exposed to sunlight for the rest of our vacation, killer.
And it was barely a minor burn too. Thing was when I yanked my arm away and involutarily shouted "ow!" the guy with the cig gave me the dirtiest look I've ever seen, as if I should have been watching where I put my arm.
On the armrest of my chair.
But still. . .was my fault his cig burned me. *shrug*!

The clamps are very strong, I was also going to tell you that I used three of the "mega" sized ones to clamp a shotgun, in a soft case to a large duffell bag afor ease in carryng it. they work great!! Was thinking about using them in my garage to "clamp" my ladders to a shelving unit I installed!!

Butterscotch - the ultimate flavor! When we were kids my Dad used to take us to the local soda fountain on Saturday nights, you know the one with the shiny red upholstered seats at the counter. We'd each get to order our choice of sundae or milk shake. I'd always order a different flavor of ice cream with butterscotch topping, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry on top. I can still taste that wonderful butterscotch flavor. Yummmmmm!
I don't drink much, but during the winter I like to put Buttershots schnapps ("Buttersnot") in my hot chocolate, and in the summer it makes a nice cool refresher poured over cold milk with ice cubes in the glass.

The answer as to why we support each other around here can be summed up in two words. We're Family. We may have our strange aunts and uncles, we may have a few sibling rivalries, but when it comes down to it, family is there for family. :D:

Frankly--if I may go back to the thought on crutches--why not put a shotgun inside the thing (sounds like something you'd see on Mythbusters, huh?) and the next SG that pokes you is gonna get their you-know-what blasted off!
And if I was burned by a cigarette by an SG, I 'd let them know about it at the top of my lungs, and if a nurse tried to blame me for smoking, I'd set her straight the same way, and head for City Hall!

Is it another name for the Main Street Bakery?Nope, it's not even in the same block.
The Confectionery, (also known as the Main Street Candy Shop) is at the corner of Main Street and Town Square, across from the main entrance to the Emporium and next door to Le Chapeau.
It's also downstairs from the sheriff's substation, if that helps.

Thanks. I think I can find it though I'm not sure exactly where Le Chapeau is. Town Square is the section at the head of Main Street, right? By the Train Station.
I'm feeling so stupid. Being such a Disney nut I should know all this but I guess since I haven't been nearly as much as I would have liked in the past and nearly always with my family I don't. My family seems to think of Main Street merely as the entrance to the park and not a place to explore.
I'm a little surprised that the Emporium, Confectionery, and Le Chapeau aren't on any map I've found so far.
No idea where the sheriff's substation is. Wouldn't its outside be disguised anyway?

Heading from The Hub toward the Main Street Train Station at one point you will be blocked by a flagpole. At that point stop, turn about 135 degrees to your left, and you will be staring at the entrance to The Confectionary.

Now if I have it right from memory, (correct me if I am wrong) Walk in under the train tunnel, go right around the flagpole (stay on the street) when you are on the opposite side of the flagpole from the train station, it is the 2nd store on the right. I think I have that correct.

For a second I thought they were at Knott's, but then I remembered that Disney's shops are much prettier! And of course, there is the fact that this IS the Disney site....
If someone had burned my arm with their cig, the WHOLE crowd would have known about it. I would have screamed SO LOUD, enough to break the offender's eardrums and then I woulda smacked him. That is just so off the hook! Getting someone in the arm with a BURNING HOT EMBER would be enough for me to call security to make sure this guy was properly and officially chastised for being so ignorant to the people around him that he BURNED someone, then to give YOU a dirty look. Wow. Just wow. What a rude and unthinking self centered Prick! He likes burning things, he is gonna love it in Hell!
Yeah, he would NOT have liked burning me.
The nurse...? Well, she needs to go through those Disney Way classes again as a refresher course.

Oooooooh See's....We have them here in Denver. Raffle can get a half pound box and eat the WHOLE thing in one sitting. I am afraid if I did that I would have a tummy ache. I like chocolate, but can only eat a small amount at a time. It just sits in my stomach like a big ball o' lead. My dad is the same way. Raffle is a REAL CHOCOHOLIC though! We have See's, Russell Stover Factory and retail store and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory all on the same block in Denver! HA! Makes Raffle drool every time we drive down there.

Walk in under the train tunnel, go right around the flagpole (stay on the street) when you are on the opposite side of the flagpole from the train station, it is the 2nd store on the right. I think I have that correct.Only if you have a time machine. It was moved to the corner shop (formerly the Camera Center) quite some few years back.

Yeah when we 'stumbled" onto it we were expecting a clothing store (like MK and DLR) as DW was searching for the "perfect" WDW jacket. When we realized where we were, we forgot about buying clothing. Yep, even though we had some gift baskets in the room, we left with...enough that we could "skip" a dinner! plus got some great baked goods with the candy!!!

Churchy, those were the most beautiful pictures of a candy shop I ever saw. Being broke and unemployed sucks. I would like to visit DL, but just stated the reason. For a second I thought they were at Knott's, but then I remembered that Disney's shops are much prettier! And of course, there is the fact that this IS the Disney site.... What are those Mickey shaped goodies, they look like cakes covered in toasted coconut, the next to the last picture I think? Don't even know what they are, but I want one! Heck, I want one of everything, but please no hard or sour candy, and no candy apples, please! Gotta get to a dentist, my veneers are falling apart....
Here is a funny SG story involving the Confectionery.
As church lady mentioned, they are giant rice crispie treats. And they are really good. Using the ones shown in those beautiful pictures, this is one with a 1.5 pound chocolate medallion attached:
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/2622/medalionoi7.jpg
Notice the smiling Mickey on the chocolate medallion? The mold used for the rice crispies themselves has the same exact face, but because of the nature of rice crispies they don't pick up the face very well, just leaving a vague impression of a smile (incidentally, those ears are covered in white chocolate):
http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/9569/earstl9.jpg
The smile is actually less visible in person than it appears in the photo. A few weeks ago I was working at the Cotton Candy registers (the ones in the fifth photo down in the diningindisney.com photos). From where a guest stands you can't really see the smile at all unless you know to look at it. A SG bought a plain one and as I was boxing it up she suddenly noticed the smile. She completely freaked, and I had to cancel the purchase. She said that it was one of the scariest things she had ever seen! I showed her the mold but it didn't matter, she ended up leaving the store without buying anything and she seemed quite disturbed by the whole experience. Since then I have carefully looked at the plain rice crispie heads several times, but I still can't see what she saw. Really, it was a very strange experience.

For the people looking for directions to the Confectionery, the stores in Main Street East are as follows:
Standing with the train station at your back, Main Street East is the right hand side of the street. The big building on your right is Expo Hall (photo pass, camera supplies, and Mickey shaped pasta), then Tony's Town Square Restaurant (not part of Main Street East), then a little open space, then the Chapeau (closed until the 18th of March while it is expanded to fill the space formerly occupied by DVC), then the Confectionery, then the Gallery, then Uptown Jewelers/Uptown Pins.
Here is where the confectionery is on the paper map, sorry for my sloppily drawn arrow:

Maybe she has a "thing" for eating something "with a face"? A co-worker is a hard core vegatarian (Veegan?) not sure the distinction, and its not important, but that is one of her "sayings" Or maybe she is just freaked out by something smiling back at her?

My flight got in a little after 10:00 this morning. I would have been on sooner but I've been fighting computer problems all afternoon. I couldn't get connected to the Internet and after a while on the phone with tech support we figured out the problem is somewhere on my end. I hooked my modem up using USB instead of the network card (NIC) just now and I have Internet so apparently my NIC went bad. I'm going to have to get a longer USB cable tomorrow, my tower is pulled as far from the desk as I can get it and the USB cables are stretched tight going right across the middle of my living room floor (computer is in my room, modem is on the other side of the living room from there). I'd rather use a NIC but I don't believe I have an empty place to put one in my tower. Ah well, once I get to WDW permanent I'll be able to save up enough money to get me a new computer.
I don't work until tomorrow afternoon at 2:00. I'm not sure when I get off but I bet I close. I'll find out what I'm working the rest of the week tomorrow.

They have grilled cheese also. I order my burger protein style, without bun, as I am allergic to buns and any wheat. Also available is the animal style and the multiples like 5x5 which is 5 patties and 5 slices of cheese. Mostly people allergic to wheat and on low carb diets get the protein style burger.
I love onions and which I had some to go with my peanut butter right now.

you could get a 50x50 if you want. Yep there have been customers who have ordered a 7x7 before. Not sure the record but it is standard bun and ingredients with standard patty and cheese. Oh, sorry, no "hidden" substances! Its kind of an "in" joke. you can order mixes of flavors, and have your burgers various ways, (no buns) or triple or quadruple meat, or whatever. They don't put it on the menu, but if you know about it, you can order it. its sort of an open secret.

I had a guest come up to me today with a full 18 inch sour powder tube. A sour powder tube is basically a giant transparent pixie dust straw that you fill yourself with whatever flavors you want. She asked me, "What is this?" I mistook her and answered, "That's $4.50." (She had just asked me for the price on two other items.) Then she said, "No, I mean what is it? Do I eat it?" I said "Yes, ma'am.", but I thought, "You do realize this is a candy store, and you did notice that all the powders you were putting into the tube had flavors marked on the dispenser?" Hopefully, she understood that I meant she should eat the powder and not the plastic tube.
Now, one with a lot of colors does remind me (very) vaguely of a long, thin version of one of those mason jars you fill with colored sand to make pictures, but I'm pretty sure that those sands come from containers marked with names like "Red", "Green", "Blue" and not "Sour Cherry", "Sour Lime", "Bubblegum".
