View Full Version : aww, ever had a kid create the magic for YOU?

I know we are always the ones who are supposed to be creating the magic for kids, but have you ever had it the other way around before? Where they create the magic for you?
I guess I've had it happen a couple times before, but tonight really stood out. Earlier in the night, I had a guest get all upset at me and she made a HUGE scene, because she asked me what flavor of icecream I liked best. I told her, she decided to get that one... I even offered to let her sample them, but she was like no, if you like it that's good enough... turns out she didn't like it. And she got all upset at me, I'm like well you asked what I liked, you never asked me to read your mind and predict what you'd like
She had me really annoyed even after she left, but then a couple hours later, a really nice family came in and ordered from me... it was a lot, and so I was talking to them while everything was being made, asked about their day and talked to their kids and all, and this sweet little boy who hasn't said hardly anything just looks up to me and holds out his autograph book wanting me to sign it... I almost thought he was joking at first, but when it became obvious he wasn't, I of course signed it. He was such a sweet boy, really well mannered and everything, said please when he asked me to sign and said thank you when I was done with it. I went and got him extra cherries for his ice cream, he deserved it. I only wish adults could be that nice.

I had a little girl in a show white costume do exactly the same thing to me when I was distributing Jr. Explorer maps (remember those? ;)) over at DCA. I guess she thought the ranger costume was a character or something. I signed, of course, although I think I made up a name like "Ranger somethingorother" for her benefit :)
(I didn't actually write 'somethingorother,' I just can't remember what I did put. Probably my first name.)

There was one time I remember that sticks out. I was in Toontown (a place I absolutely hate working), working at the Chip & Dale Acron crawl. Busy day, and I was shouting at some rowdy kids who were throwing the acorns at each other really hard.
I was kinda pissed 'cause I didn't like yelling all the time, and I kinda glared at all the kids as they left. There was this one little girl who was amongst the last to leave. Her mom was next to me, kind of encouraging her to exit, and the little girl runs right over to me and gives me a giant hug, telling her mom, "Mommy, I like this man!"
That was nice. All the parents around the entrance let out a collective "awwwwww...."
Yeah, that was the first in-costume magic experience I had, too. Standing on the platform on Main Street Station, a little kid with big Ward Kimball glasses peered up at me through the fence and slowly held up his autograph book and pen. Never said a word.
The word I almost said was "<deleted>!!!" because I realized I didn't have an "autograph" ready. I invented one there on the spot, and have been using it to sign "Conductor Zazu" ever since.
Dunno what it was, he emerged from the crowd, never said a word, then disappered again; but it was a very cool moment indeed.

When I was a greenhorn merchandise hostess, I got to work guide one (next to the Tour Guide gardens on Main Street). Afternoons and evenings there are pretty busy - unless there's a parade or fireworks, all you see are the items in the guests hands and the money they're shoving at you as they stock up on last minute gifts before leaving. The mornings however, are nice because you can observe a lot. What always got to me was seeing how real the characters are for little kids. You'd see someone in costume near the train station, and pretty soon, there's a mob of children who believe. It's all real to them and the smiles are so big they could light up the town.
Over in Fantasyland, I was leaving Storybook for my lunch break one day, and some little girl confused me for Snow White...don't know why...I was in the area costume, but she ran up to me, threw her arms around my legs and wouldn't let go. For me, the job was about the little kids. Much as I hated being stuck on Book, I would try and find one kid on my boat who was small enough that they'd never heard any of the spiel before, and do the whole spiel for them. Disneyland is for kids - forget the jerk a.p.'s, forget the bored teens, just do your job for the sake of the little kids, and it's great.

^ That's why and how I lasted 4 years in Fort Fun. (The larger of PGA 2 kiddie areas when I was there.) I had the most fun playing with the little ones.

I was working in Tinkerbell Toy Shoppe and I was folding t-shirts in the back section of the store. This little girl came up to me and was asking me all types of questions; why are you wearing that dress (the old alpine dress with green vest), why are you folding t-shirts. I was nice at first....I'm helping out like how your parents help out at their jobs. And to help in this store I have wear this dress. I'm folding shirts to help out. But the questions just kept coming and I was thinking to myself "kid, your bugging me...enough with the questions". But I answered her questions nicely. Well her mother came to get her and she turned to me and said, "Good-bye Snow White...it was nice talking to you". She thought I was Snow White!! That explained all the questions...and totally made my day. That one moment...just reminded me that the magic of Disney is a two way thing. Not only do we give it..but receive it too!!

So the other day I was at work thinking my day could not get any worse. Guests and cast members alike were driving me insane. So I am standing there telling people to get out of the ride and putting on that fake disney smile and this little boy gets out of one of the cars. Cute little boy maybe three or four with glasses. He looks up at me and tells me thank you. I gave him a smile and said something to the effect of your welcome and continued speiling to the other guests. Next thing I know this little boy has wrapped himself around my legs and is hugging me and telling me thank you again. Well to say the least I was sitting there almost in tears because this little boy has just reminded me why I work there. I thought this was fitting topic for my first post because its not always that we get such wonderful guests.

Best JC trip ever? Boat full of terminally ill kids at D-land for their dream trip. They were giggling and laughing and enjoying it with a gleam in their eyes. Kids are what has kept Disney going for SURE.

Exactly... no matter how bad my day is, before the end of the day I always try to find one little kid to talk to, and they always seem to make me forget all the bad stuff that happened before it. Like one time, I was pulled to work parades before the end of my shift... it had been a pretty lousy day, til I met one little boy who didn't speak any english. But his parents had bought him a lot of toys and souvenirs and he wanted to show them all off to me, so I ended up spending at least a good 15 minutes sitting on the ground with this little boy playing with all his toys. Then a parade lead walks by, and I jump up and start to say something to her, and she just laughed and told me to get back down there and keep playing with him lol... but then, I always have loved working parades. I love getting to go and talk to all the little kids and getting to make up interesting stories as to why they can't sit on the wall or why they have to sit behind a certain point. :)

I think this is a very good topic, as it's so true. I can honestly say that after working at the park for about five months, my magic was dead. Of course my guest-service was still there, I simply no longer that that 'twinkle' in my eye that I had when I first began working there. At about five months I was fed up with the crap, tired of the guests and their attitudes, but no matter how many times I wanted to punch a guest in his throat and watch him bleed to death internally, I have to say my entire day was turned around when I could see young kids happy, simply happy to be in the magic that had left me. I stayed at the park for a little over a year and finally moved on, but just knowing you can truly make a young child happy for a day out of their life, thats a decent feeling. THAT'S worthwhile.

Well this one time about two or three years ago I was sweeping over in New Orleans Critter Country, I was the lead that day and was having an awful day, the only thing good about that day is that I was able to retrieve a tigger plush keychain that I had found like a month before. Anyways, Halfway through my day I was sweeping around the Haunted Mansion and this cute little kid is talking to his mom and he was so scared to go on, so I gave him my newly acquired Tigger keychain and told him that it had magical powers and that it made people not afraid anymore, he took it but I gave him one condition, once he was not afraid anymore he had to go and give it to someone else it didn't have to be that day but eventually he had to pass it along and he had to include the same condition. About a year later I was out sweeping in New Orleans Critter Country again and I hear my name being called out, so I turn around and look and look and finally this kid comes running up to me and gives me the biggest hug and asked me if I remember him, he had no hair this time around it looked liked he had shaved his head, either way I did kinda remember him it was the same little kid I gave the tigger keychain to about a year ago. So he calls his mom over and she shows up and he returned the the Tigger Keychain and told me that if I could give it to another kid who needed to not be afraid anymore, I said sure, his mom then explained to me that he had leukemia and he had just a few weeks left to live and he had wanted to return to Disneyland to give the tigger back to the guy who gave him the courage to not be afraid anymore, needless to say I was just about in tears, so I went and got him a few free things including a cut in line for Splash and a free Picture. I talked to them for about and hour and a half and then they left. About two weeks after that his mom returned and found me in Critter Country over by the Critter gate, I smiled when I saw her and expected to see her son somewhere around her soon, she walked up and began to cry and explained to me that he had passed away the night before 2 days before his 10th birthday, and she just wanted to say thank you for making him feel so special that day two weeks previous, that all he talked about on the way home and for a few days after was me and how nice I was, I actually still had the tigger keychain in my pouch, so I took it out and returned it to her and told her that now she needs it, to not be afraid. So i made her cry even more and I was not holding up to good either, I asked her if possible to include the tigger in his coufin and she told me that she would do it. I have seen her twice after that and everytime I see her we spend time and talk about how everything is going even if just for a few minutes.
I consider this to be the highest point in my Career here at Disneyland, and I know that it will never be topped, even though it had a sad ending I can't help but feel that I made his last few days a little happier

Thats is such a wonderful and touching story. When i use to work mansion, when then kids would make it up to the Foyer position and get freaked out, we would give them the neon yellow stickers we put on the buggies to distinguish it as a handicap or broken buggy. We would tell the kids that the ghosts are afraid of the yellow sticker and would stay away. Most of the time it worked. But it was no Plush tigger keychain. That is much nicer.

Mansion-boi: That was the sweetest story I have ever read on this site.
i would have cried for days if that had happened to me, i think tigger is my favorite pooh character for a new reason now... I've never stoped to think "what if this kid is spending his last weeks here?" What if that girl that i was talking to on the train, and wrote me a guest comliment neglected to tell me i'd never see her agian, it makes me think so what if the other guy with the same name as me got it on her record

Ya, actually I knew one kid, about 5 years old, who had terminal cancer, and a couple months before he died, his Mom asked him what he wanted to do before he died, and he said two things, ride in an airplane and go to disneyland.

mansion_boi....I would like to thank you for sharing your story with us here. Most of the time we do forget what we all started working here for. It sometimes becomes oblivious to us what really is going on with some of the people we run into at the resort. I have had many great experiences with families at the park but none could ever come near to what you did for that little boy and his mom. I thank you for keeping what is left of the magic alive and giving it to the little kids that go there for that reason. Never again will I read a story like that though when I am at work, "Hello thank you for calling.....wahhhhhh.." Guest " Whats wrong?" as I sniffle in their ear........

That was beautiful dude ... wow ... totally had tears in my eyes! This reminds us all why we are CM's, whether now or in the past. I am returning to WDW to work in 10 days, and I needed something like that to remind me what I am to be doing down there....
My story actually got me an Epcot Take 5 of the Week.... It was during my CP at Innoventions, and I was greeter at the Communications Dream Fourm. Up comes this little girl she asked me a few questions about Starnac (our AA) and I promptly answered them. She seemed like an interesting girl, so I started to talk to her ... turns out that her name was Tiffany, and she was from Long Island. Just about 4 or 6 years old, right in the PERFECT age range for magic! As I got talking to this girl, I knew that I couldn't let her go with just a 'get into the theatre' like my other guests, so I asked her if she could help me open up the doors to the Dream Fourm Theatre, since a show was about to start. She said yes.
It took about a minute to show her what to do, which was basicially first we were going to turn on the lights to the door, then open the door itself. As we 'rehearsed', her mom was snapping pictures like the paparazzi. After our rehearsal, I asked her why the lights didn't come on and the doors didnt open; she said that she didn't know; I told her its b/c we need to add pixie dust, invisible pixie dust (very finely grained mind you) so I gave her some and me some too and we threw it at the door! Then we tried it again and as if by magic (or really good timing :D ) the lights came on, followed by the doors opening!
I immediately looked over to her to see her reaction (this was the first time I tried this) and her eyes were HUGE! I have never seen anyone smile like this! In fact, I believe it was the first time I have ever seen pure joy in a childs face ... its priceless. As she skipped into the Dream Fourm Theatre along with mommy, I switched positions with the theatre exit position, and made her a magical moments certificate. As they came out of the theatre, little Tiffany saw me and ran right towards me to give me a HUGE hug! Insta-tears. I gave her the MM certificate, and she was on her way. (but not before another thank you from mom and another big hug from Tiffany!) I went on break right after this, and thank God because I was tearing up real bad, and had to tell EVERYONE I knew about this! It ended up winning one of the first Epcot Take 5's of the Week, and I ended up being the first CP to win the award. Quite humbling, really.

Wow, I didn't think my story would affect everyone the way it did. I am happy that I was able to share my story. It is what keeps me going when the guests are irritating me and I am at breaking point. Well I just wanted to say thank you for reading and for the comments.
if i had read this story earlier, i would have tracked you down and nominated you for a spirit award, it's things like you're story that we should all be thinking about when we work, i'm not saying let people go agianst the traffic at a split and get trampled, but maybe be nicer when you have to direct them the other way... i'm feeling kinda guilty because i wasn't the nicest cast member ever at treehouse spilt tonight, but then agian, if you see people comming at you, and people in yelow, with yellow cone lights, telling you to go another way, where everyone is going with you, then maybe take a hint... there I go talking agian...

Mansion_boi, that story is the kind I read far too rarely, which is not to say I'd like to see more terminally ill children around, but that I'd like to see more of us being able to touch their lives. That was truly beautiful and I commend you.
It's the kids who definitely give you the sweetest reminders of why you put on that costume and came to work. Back on my CP one night, I was in my last hour of work. I was assigned to just go out into my area and give it a once-over (custodial hostess, btw), and I came upon one of my fellow CMs closing up the Kodak camera shop next to the HISTA exit. When I walked up she happened to be play-fighting with the glowing collapsible swords with two young boys around 7 and 9, so I grabbed one out of the store too and joined her. Well, eventually she had to go back inside and finish closing up, so I took on both the boys by myself. They were so polite about it too, not hitting too hard or damaging the swords--maybe because they were British? lol-- and their parents were grinning from ear to ear with the father getting the whole thing on video tape from the sidelines.
Of course, they triumphantly slayed me, and as I lay dying on the ground, I managed to choke out that winners get stickers, so I pulled out some Mickey stickers that my trainer had given me and gave them each a couple. They insisted that I put some on for myself too, so I stuck one on my hand. Then their father called them back because it was pretty late by that time and the park was about to close, so they put the swords back and as they left they called out "Thank you!" I just stood there, beaming, because it was my first time really getting to have fun with the kids one on one (or rather, two on one) and I called "Thank YOU!" back. It had been a long, bleary day, and they were the ones who deserved my gratitude because those 15 minutes turned it completely around.
It was a joy to write that one down in our Take 5 log, though I ended up being recognized for Epcot's Take 5 of the Week for something else completely. (One pregnant woman, two double strollers, four small children...just helped them to where she was meeting her husband. Anyone else woulda done it, right?) lol. Oh well! Gotta love those kids when they aren't protein spilling in your attraction!

A couple days ago I had this funny little kid at Strollers. His mom was returning his stroller, he had already hopped out and mom was still unloading stuff when he put his face in the seat of the stroller.
Me: "eww, you just put your face where your butt was"
Mom, to kid: "Hey, don't do that, you don't know how many leaky diapers have been there."
Kid then stands on the footrest of one of the strollers in the pit.
Me: "Don't stand on that, if that stroller falls over you'll hit your head on the ground and you'll spend the rest of the day at the hospital and not at Disneyland."
Mom: "Yeah, and then they'll shave your head."
Me: "No, they'll give you a mohawk and color it green."
Kid: "I want an orange one!"
I know it's nothing compared to some of the stories that have already been posted, but it made me smile near the end of a really shitty day.

I was working Pooh Corner Tuesday and a 2 year old girl walked in with her parents and picked up one of the new glow balls. So I picked one up and asked her if she wanted to see something neat. I banged the glow ball on to the other glow balls and made a bunch of them in the container glow. She watched them glow and smiled and once they went out, she picked one up and handed it to me. So I banged it on the floor and lit it up and handed it to her. She puts it in the container and picks up another one and hands it to me. I light that one and she does it again. This goes on for over 5 minutes until her parents (watching and laughing at her cuteness) tell her that they should go. But she kept on doing it. Finally they got her to stop. :( I was having fun cuz she was soooooo cute.

Don't you love that?? When I worked at Disneyland, I got kids all the time who thought I was Belle!! It totally made my day, but I also sometimes didn't have the heart to tell some of the kids I WASN'T Belle...like the little girl who ran up to me and had this look of wonderment on her face and then called over to her mom, "Look, it's BELLE!" and then she goes, "You're pretty!"....it makes my day. Most of the time I DID have to tell the kids I wasn't Belle because I felt guilty going along with it. But the kids would then ask if I was Belle's sister or cousin or whatever...pretty funny. And I got lots of adults asking if I usually play Belle because they swear they saw me playing Belle..
Anyway, of all the crap we always put up with at Disney--all the rude and horrible "guests" and crowded days and lame costumes, etc--The one thing that would ALWAYS make me know it was all worth it was when I saw the kids having fun. I adore kids and I think Disneyland is this place of DREAMS for them...I loved Disneyland as a child and I want every child to feel the way I did when I was there.
Now that I'm not working there anymore, I miss it SO MUCH just for that reason--the kids and fun.

I have so many stories about cute little children but two really stick out in my mind. (sorry it's long)
Way back in December I was working at Casey Jr and I started talking to this little girl about random things while waiting for the train to return. All of a sudden she decideds to play a game. She tells me there was a spider on my shirt. (not being afraid of spiders I decided to play along and freak out) so then she tells me there's a snake on my shoe ... a spider in my hair ... pants ... shoulder. this continued on for a couple of minutes (her little brother joined in) then she said there was a spider somewhere and I couldn't understand her. I looked to her parents with a dazed look on my face. They tell me that this is her first time to Disneyland and in fact has only been in the country for a few days. She was telling me that I had a spider on my glasses only she didn't know the english word for glasses. I thought she was soo cute. And then I saw her the next day at Dumbo only she was sooooooo sad cause I wasn't wearing my glasses (I had my contacts in) when I let her through the gate she told me I was pretty with and with no glasses it was soooooooo sweet I almost cried. Then as they left her mother came up to me thanked me for helping her with her english. I almost died I never thought that, that little game would have actually helped some one.
My other story is my favorite....
A little girl got out of the mine cart at Snow White and runs up to me an wraps her arms around my legs and says, "I missed you sooooooo much" I just stood there looking at her grandpa thinking who is this child and why did she miss me, I've never seen her before. Well I saw her later at Pinocchio and had a whole catch up convo (how old are you now, are you having fun in 1st grade....) It was adorable and her grandpa gave me a guest compliment for playing along. To this day I keep seeing her and everytime she still missed me so much.

I had the cutest little girl today at Alice. We were 101 for technical problems and this little girl wanted to ride so her mom asked if they could just wait there I told her sure but it would be 10-15 mins. So while I'm waiting for my unload castmember to evac the ride and maintenence to show up I start talking to the girl. All of a sudden she had to go to the bathroom so her mother rushed her away to the prince and princess b-rooms before I can tell her to just come back to the exit because at this time a line has already started to form well anyways. After I get the people down from the vine cause we can't evac them from there, the rotation comes through. I'm standing at unload now and behinde me I hear a tiny voice. It's the little girl I was sooo happy she recognized me and we continued talking about what color caterpilar she was going to get. If she wasn't past our first chicken gate I would have gotten her on the ride so fast but no I couldn't make them go back. So she gets around the corner by the turn stile and says I want a pink one. She got up to the front but sadly she got a yellow and orange one. Anyways when she comes out of the unbirthday scene her whole family is clapping. I sad, "Yeah you made it" she ran up to me and gave my legs a hug. she loved the ride and was so happy even though she really wanted a pink caterpilar. :D I wanted to take her home and keep her.
people think i'm indiana jones, does that count...? and i felt really bad one time, this little girl (who had to be wearing a b-day sticker) is walking up to indy with family, and she's way to short, but i called her over to the stick anyway to pull a "oh no, just a little to short eat lots of veggies, and come see me agian next year, and maybe tehn you'll make it. Instead she tried to give me a hug, and i kinda freaked because i know that parents can turn nasty and pull the whole, he touched my little girl, and the whole too short thing, didn't wanna give her a hug and say, oh sorry, you can't go on even though you hugged me. at least she was at that age where they don't really seem to know what's going on, so she didn't start kicking and screaming, so i gave them a switch pass and went on my way.

Little kids ask me all the time if I'm a ghost at mansion. I decline and tell them no I just clean the house cause I'm a maid. Other kids ask me if the ghost are going to get them. I always tell them no, they are going to dance and sing for you. Most kids usually smile and go inside.
At pooh I always ask the kids to say hi to Pooh or Tigger for me. Kids love it. During Fantasmic! or Parade (pre-show of course) I try to strike up conversations with kids about who they saw, what did they ride. 9 times out of ten they yap your ear off. It always makes my day.
i prefer to talke to the older kids and the adults, i used to teach a kindergarten bible study, and was an assistant for the morning kindergarten teachers, so i'm all little kidded out.

Would much prefer the yapping of an inquisitive & fun child  than the constant complaining of an adult who won't listen. Most kids are way cool!
And most kids know more about the park(s), then their stupid parents. They usually know what the attraction is called and where it is. :)
i talk to the adults who are looking for conversation because they've been hanging out with thier kid all day, and neither of my attractions are really geared towards little ones, so most of the time that's who i have for conversation. If some little kid came up and started talking to me, i would strike up a conversation, but i'm not as good with them as i used to be.

It was right before the fireworks last night and we were getting ready for the mad rush afterwards for the mansion (never happened we were kinda bummed). I was talking to a group of girls and they were asking all these questions about the mansion. Why it was decorated and all this stuff. "Why is there pumpkins and christmas stuff?" "Jack Skellington and his friends from Halloween Town have redecorated the house for the holidays" It made me smile (I love to share stuff about my ride). The lead was smiling cause it was cute. When the girls left another cast member sharred this with me.
She said the night before there was a girl terrified to go on the mansion. She asked the girl what she was afraid of. The girl said Ghosts. The cast member then said "All 999 happy haunts are on vacation in the Bermuda Triangle and are subletting the House to Jack Skellington. Jack has redecorated the house and is celebrating Zero's birthday and you're invited." The girl the dragged her mom into the haunted Mansion line. The mom mouthed a big Thank you to the cast member.
HAHA, that's great.
One of my fellow condutors, who was a Miner/Cowgirl/Something or another last night was out at greeter, and the nerd that i am was standing out there with her chatting, and some little girl goes up and tests herself on the single rider under 7yrs old mark, and her parents pulled this sorta oh well, not tonight honey, beacuse she was a god foot and a half below it. So the CM sees this and says, well let's try it right here instead, and right as she about to say yeah you're good mom pipes in with a loud whisper "CM, CM, qeet(,--- that's a mouth noise that sounds like something being cut) NOO, NOT TONIGHT"
CM responds with "yeah you're ok to... i mean whoops, sorry sweetie not tonight, umm, lots of milk, make those bones grow"
The mom mouthed a big Thank you to the cast member. -quoted from stduck's post. And the rest of the family went on the ride. Minus mom and "too short"

i work on storybook.
one day, as we were heading into the whale, i asked my boat, "oh no! what should we do?"
a little kid up front yelled, "i know!" and started doing kung-fu at the whale.
that made me laugh. a lot.
hmm. since i work on such a kid-friendly attraction, i get magic created for me daily... i love it. makes me so happy.

I know i cant beat mansion bois story(still have tearsin my eyes) but I had to register just to share my own. Im not a CM, actually a former AP'er(the nice kind, i swear!! we are in the middle of a little time off since i had a baby 1.5 yrs ago, will renew next year) a couple years ago I was able to take the day off work and join my hubby and his co workers in the task of taking several of their students (special ed 18-21 yr olds) to DL on a happy hearts day. They had not done this before and actually all volunteered for the duty. It was a long day, we luckily had enough adults to keep an eye on all of them, and watching the joy in their eyes was the best. for most of these kids, this would probably be their one and only trip to DL, they didnt coe from the best homes/families etc. there was one student named Ka who didnt care for the rides, he just wanted to meet as many characters and get a hug from each of them(no pictures or autographs, just hugs) I thought it was soo cute. after we had returned home(san diego) and dropped all the kids off I mentioned to my hubby how cute I thought it was and he told me that Ka had probably received more hugs that day than his entire life, and yes i cried.

Today was kind of shitty long story I don't wanna talk about it.
Anywho I was on an optamized task to do stroller patrol and this mom and a crying young girl come up to me. The mom says "Can we ask you a question" I tell them of course. The little girl then between tears "Is the first part still go all dark at the end?" I gave my best reluctant sorry look and said "Yes it does I am sorry." The mom goes on to say something to the effect of she doesn't mind the ride its the first part. I then look at the girl and ask "Would you like to ride if I can get you past the expanding room?" The girl nodded and I lead them through door 2 to the portrait hallway. The girl had stopped crying and was smiled. They thanked me and joined the people in the hall way

I know this should belong in the "Other theme parks" forum, but I think its relevant enough...
This happened to a friend of mine. We were both working Halloween Horror Nights at Islands of Adventure.
This little kid was going through the mirror maze in our house (DisOrientoriuM). The cast members in this section were dressed in freaky clown costumes Universal has dubbed "Treaks". Now these costumes are freaky looking, especially in a dark, strobe lit environment. I got to play one, and people get FREAKED out by it..anyway, this little kid came through, and was giving beads to the scare-actors that he had gotten from the parade! He even put it around one Treak's neck....When we were all told about this later, everyone was like "aaawwwww"...

This is the best Disney story I've ever read. You'll be richer your whole life for what you did that one day for that one boy.

Yes, I do have a story... I was working an outside Indy position, and a little girl, about 7 or 8, came up to me after riding. She asked me if we could get rid of the rolling ball at the end because she was worried that it would hurt her, as well as the Indy hanging from the ceiling. It was so cute! It made me realize that not everyone views that ball/room as a fake rolling ball with moving walls. Some people believe that it is real!

My story doesn't really deal with just kids, its actually an entire family.
I was on my way from dumbo heading backstage for a very needed break when I came across a large family that had all their heads stuck in the map of disneyland. I walked up behind them and asked if I could help them find something. The father had a heavy indian accent but I tried to help them as best I could. The man said he had 3 questions. First he asked where It's A Small World was...and I answered that, he then asked where the parade was going to be...I answered that too. Finally he asked about Fantasmic and I gave him my little review (cause I really love the show) and he thanked me many times. The family then asked to take their picture with me so they could remember how 'You helped us from getting lost in Disneyland'. Then as they left I wished them all a very magical holiday and even the little kids thanked me.
This single family made me remember why I enjoy working at Disneyland. :)
I was being "that mean man" the other day and standing behind one of my fellow conductors while she was asking them to stand in the back rows for PAC, (she and I were Rocking the walkway since we trained at jungle together, anywho) and this little girl has a glow necklace opened up at one of the joints, and i look down at her and ask "are you fishing?"
"yes"
(by this time i'm down at her level, and whole inc off the ground) "yeah? fishing huh?" (really tempted at this point to ask where the water was, but at the same time hoping she wouldn't realize that i was in fact IN the water, which i did not point out to her) "are you catching anything?"
"umm, yeees"
"Yeah what did you catch, a fish"
"yes"
"Did you eat it?" (what else do you do with a fish? crap i'm getting a balnk stare, oh no i scared her, recover!) "Or did you toss it back?"
"NO!"
"You ate it!?"
"YES!"
"was it yummy"
"uuuhh, yes."
"ok well good luck fishing, let me know if you catch any more! I'll be up and down the street."
SEE everyone I DO have a soul! Yay me. So yeah i never saw her agian i don't think, but if i do, i want to clone her and take the clone home with me and have it sit there and fish in my front lawn!

Ooh kay....
But on the same note. I was doing GC for Fantasmic! opening night and I was in the C walkway giving the pre show warnings about sitting on the wall. This one family said they waiting till they could sit in perfered seating (its common) and I got to talking with the kids. This one kid asked me wear the red ship ever moved. I asked him "The ship that was right there?" -pointing Fowler's-
"Yes!"
"Well Captain Hook hijacked the Columbia and its going to be up to Peter Pan to get it back"
"Really?"
"Yes you're going to see Peter Pan fight Captain Hooks with swords and pirates during Fatasmic!"
"The same Peter Pan that I played with earlier?"
"Yes the very same Peter Pan"
Mom and Dad were smiling the whole time.

The other day at Book, I had a kid who took his job as my co-captain seriously. As we approached Monstro he said something like 'there's a big whale in front of us' when he could see Agrabah (or however you spell it) he said 'there's Aladdin's island' and made other various comments thoughout the ride. I should just let him have the mic, it was really cute. :)

My younger sister Billie, who's 5 years old, just recently went to Disneyland for I think her fourth time. She was so excited to go there since she's a huge fan (she constantly watches her Disneyland Fun video), but I wasn't going with her (just my dad, stepmom, and her, and they were staying at a friend of their's).
They decided to visit the park on the 23rd of Dec., and the morning they were about to leave, Billie was all excited and was anxious to get to the park. Despite of what I advised my dad to do (go early, leave, and come back late, considering the crowds at this time of year), they finally got to the park around 11:30 in the morning. Billie was all, "Okay, daddy, now we have to go on Splash Mountain because that's what Kimmie and Steffie said to do first!" Unfortunately, the line at this time was already about an hour long, and my dad didn't quite understand the whole Fastpass system, so they went on Big Thunder. (Mind you, she's never been on any "big kids" rides before but she's seen them on her video so she was happy to be able to recognize this ride.)
She got to sit right up front of the train and before they started off and "practiced" putting her hands up like the kids on the video had done. Of course once the ride started she had to hold on a couple times, but even when they were slowing down, she was beaming and her hands were way up in the air.
After that, I think they saw Snow White and she's a HUGE Princess fan (Ask her what she wants to be when she grows up, she'll say "Ariel") so this was one of her favorite things. Later, they went to watch the parade and there were some crowds, so she sat on Dad's shoulders. She was so excited and waved throughout the whole parade. When Mrs. Claus came by, she looked at Billie and said, "My, don't you look tall, up there!" and Billie was just ASTOUNDED. Even though I wasn't there, I can totally imagine the look on her face and she must have been SO shocked, yet proud. Then the princesses came by and Sleeping Beauty blew her a kiss. Again, the open-mouthed, wide-eyed look on her face. THEN, Jasmine and Aladdin drove by and the same thing happened. She called out, "JASMINE! I WAS YOU FOR HALLOWEEN!"
So that was her favorite part of the day, no question. Afterwards they went on the Matterhorn, which she loved, and before they got on she was singing "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah" the way it's sung on the Disneyland Fun video. Fortunately the lines were shorter straight after the parade. Finally, she went to Splash Mountain and the wait was nearly 2 hours long. She waited in line with my dad without complaining at all, and when she was finally done, she LOVED IT so much. After the 2 hour wait once they got off the ride, she tugged on Dad's shirt and said, "We have to go on again!"
They left at about 9:00 at night because my DAD was the tired one. Billie, on the other hand, was hyper as ever. On Christmas morning she called me and told me how she had gone on all the "big kid" rides and wouldn't even go on a little kids one, and how she was "SO brave." She also told Frankie (the woman they were staying with, my stepmom's friend) that it was the "best Christmas ever." Then Frankie said, "Why didn't I have a girl?"
I only wish I was there with her, she had such a magical trip!

Today I had the cutest little kid at Mr. Toad... His car pulled up and his eyes got wide! It was green and green is his favorite color. Well after he sat down he looked at me and stuck out his hand...( I couldn't see what he was trying to hand me) so I took what he was handing me and it was one of the jewels that they sell around the park(you know the ones that cost like 6 dollars for the itty bitty satchel). I said oh that's pretty but are you sure you don't want it. He simply replied with..." I'm paying everyone for rides even though I don't have to." The way he said it and the look on his face was priceless I just wanted to take him home with me!!

I had the same kid on Matterhorn! I was at A unload and he got out and thanked me and then dug in his pocket and gave me one of his jewels. I was so surprised I just took it (didn't think much about it) and said thank you. I now keep the jewel in my coat pocket to remind me there are some nice people that come to Disneyland. Its always the little kids that will make your day and the stupid adults that will ruin it.

I can't believe that I didn't think to post this one before.
I was in the park as a guest, not working, with my wife, daughter, and in-laws. We were in CC, in line for the baby (not quite two years old at the time) to meet Tigger, Eeyore, and Pooh. Well, Chrissa decided that she was going to be extra cute this time. First, when meeting Tigger, she decided to hop up to him. Then she gave Eeyore a big hug. Then, after her photo with Pooh, she went back to the 'honey pots' in the background, got a big scoop with her hand (with absolutely nothing on it at all, of course,) and proceeded to give the 'Honey' on her finger to Pooh...

My first day on the job I was working Showcase and I saw Max (Goofy's son) outside the door. Needless to say, I thought it was wonderfull because it was my first day (oh the magic!) Anyway, there was a little girl in the store and I whispered "Hey look outside, it's Max" So she inched to the door and peeked out-well her mouth dropped and her face lit up! She goes running to her Mom going "It's Max! Wow, it's Max!" To which her mom pretty much ignored her...oh well, it made my night because the magic was special to her.

This happened to me last week at Kilimanjaro Safaris (yeah, I know, I'm on the DLR board, not the WDW board, but this thread seems to have some longevity to it)
--
When I clocked in this morning, first position I got was "Honorary Family". Basically, one Safari CM goes over to the rope-drop ceremony, and picks out one family to come back before the park "opens" and ride the very first safari of the day as a private show. The CM who picks the family does the spiel while someone else drives.
I went over to Discovery Island, and picked out a family. Mom, Dad, and 2 daughters, probably 4 and 6 years old, if I had to guess. As we're walking to the entrance to Safaris, I talk with them, and learn that they're from Finland, the 2 girls know very little English, but the parents understand English pretty well.
We go out on the trail, and I go through my normal show, trying to remember to slow down a bit, as the mother is translating for her daughters. I realized about 20 seconds in that what I was saying didn't matter, and it didn't matter if the girls could understand me without translation. The look on their faces said everything. The little one was almost bouncing off her seat with excitement, her eyes were glowing the whole ride, excitedly pointing when she saw an animal.
I won't be able to remember that little girl's name, I doubt she'll be able to remember mine, but I'm always going to remember that smile.
THAT is why I love working for Disney.

Over the four years I worked at the resort, I had many memorable interactions with children, some good, some bad, but I try and forget the bad ones.
This was probably the last such good one. I was in Le Bat, workin a register. Since it wasn't as busy as it can get, I was enjoying my time talking with a mother and her daughter (maybe 7 or 8) while I was ringing them up. Of course I was being my normal smart ass self, and was playing around with them. Here's how part of the conversation went:
Little Girl: Mommy, mommy!! (tugging on her mother's shirt) It's him, it's him!
Mother: Who is?
Girl: The guy, he's the funny one from the other day, but he wasn't working here.
Mother: Were you (to me) working somewhere else the other day?
Me: Yeah, I get around. (to the little girl) Where did you see me?
Girl: (thinking) It was at the photo place! The one for Splash.
Me: I was there recently. When did you see me there? (playfully)
Girl: (thinking again, looking soo cute as she did: hand on chin, head tilted back and to the left) It was two days ago. It was you, wasn't it?
Me: Yeah, that was me.
Mother: (to me) I knew I had a good feeling about you.
Me: Thanks, (heartfelt) I do what I can. It's always nice to be remembered.
Mother: Well thanks for the conversations. We've really enjoyed them.
Girl (on her way out): Thank you, hope to see you again.
Me: Me, too.
Years from now. I hope it's the guests and not the dumbass managers that I remember most.

Though WDW and not DLR, a couple of weeks ago in MK a little girl was eyeing my pin lanyard while I was floating through the Philharmagic shop and when I began to talk to her about a pin trade, she wasn't interested in trading any of her pins but stared at one of my pins in particular. Her lanyard was overflowing with princess pins which gave me a good idea what her mindset was. So I knelt down and started a conversation with her about the pins and the individual princesses and their stories. The mother was amazed that her daughter was so attentive and listening to me spiel on and on for her enjoyment. She even told me that it would be allright not to trade with the little girl as she had enough pins to begin with. I had a Cinderella's castle pin from the Disney Store with a little filligree on it and I just knew that that was the one that the little girl wanted to have. So instead of trading with her and taking one of her precious pins, I took the pin off my lanyard and handed it to her. Her eyes got large like saucers (which I had never seen before happen in my entire life) and she gave me a huge bear hug with tears of joy welling up in her eyes. Her mother was shocked and told me that I really didn't have to give her a pin like that without a pin trade in return and I told her that it was totally allright. The little girl and her mother followed me onto the outside veranda of the store as we chatted back and forth. Her mother couldn't believe the pin I had given to her daughter and kept telling everyone around what I had just done for her daughter. (Way to go lady...next I'll have kids rushing me and knocking me over for free pins! LOL!) As they left I told her "For gosh sakes...don't trade that pin to anyone!" The mother chuckled and with that took the pin and put it into her purse saying "That's to make sure she doesn't! This pin is going to stay with her for a very long time!" Without prompting, the little girl lept to my arms for another bear hug and shyly said "Thank you for the pin. It's my favorite, ever!" and gave me a peck on the cheek. As the mother and daughter walked on towards further adventures in the Magic Kingdom, they continued to turn around and smile and wave to me. As I waved repeatedly back to them, it was then that I realised that it is truly and indeed a Magic Kingdom and it's source of joy is the children who inhabit it. :)

anyone how works in entertainment will appreciate this...
I was doing a Goofy set one day at Camp MM and I was getting tired and kinda lazy with my animations, i know i know shame on me...
But anyway it was during FOLK and Poch. shows (the best set to get because no one is out) and this little boy comes up to me and he was so excited to see me, so we talked for a sec about his trip so far and what he'd done, and then I signed his book and instead of doing the on top of the nose thing I kinda BS'd it and the little kid goes
"Alright Goofy, Keep Your eyes on it..."
Slightly scolding me,
and I couldn't help but smile really big and be the most animated that I could possibly be everytime I go out on set...

Yes, I have. I was at Tuck and Roll Greeter (where me measure kids). This little girl barely made it, and she went off. I was still crouched, when the little girl came by on the side. I was like what's wrong sweety? She gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Her parents and other guest around were like ahhhh.... Those are the times when working for Disney are good.

I was working greeter at the Mansion when this little girl came up with her mom and sister. They asked if they can go inside. I turned to my cohort and asked loudly "Can these people come in?" He said they couldn't because they were smiling. The little girl stopped smiling and he said "Well, she can come in but the others have to stay outside." She started walking towards the entrance and I said "C'mon, you can ride with me." I grabbed her hand and we walked through the queue. I asked for her name and she said "Isabella". We talked the whole way, mainly about how she saw the movie and wasn't scared and I talked about the mansion. We got up to the turnstiles and I told her I had to leave. By then the rest of the group showed up. As I was walking back, all I could think was "Now that is why I'm working for Disney."

Almost lost it on stage yesterday when I commented on a very handsome sports bracelet 2 daughters & their mom lovingly created. The bracelet had baseball, football, soccerball, BB, & every other sport bead woven between the beaded phrase "# ONE DAD WE LOVE YOU." I said; Oh, your dad will love this for Father's Day. What a great gift!" There was silence. Mom looked at me & quietly said; "Dad died last week. He was an all around sports coach in San Francisco." The oldest daughter told me; "Everyone loved our Dad." The 10 yr. old brushed away tears. I didn't know what to say & was not sure I could recover. I rang their sale through tears & hoped they'd not see. The 10 yr. old told me this was their tribute to a dad who they missed. I reached out & all 3 warmly squeezed my hand. My mind raced. I couldn't let this mourning family walk away. Suddenly I remembered my lanyard, & asked the youngest girl if she would like a pin for dad. She was hesitant until she saw I had a soccerball pin. Her eyes widened, she gently smiled as she said; "Daddy loved soccer." I took the pin off & handed it to her. The 2 daughters & mom all huged me with tears rolling down their cheeks as they thanked me. They'll never know I was the honored one who wished to thank them for sharing their family gift to a # 1 Dad.

Oh yeah... nothing like it in the world.
Two occasions actually. Met a very nice family who was interested in getting into Pin Trading (miracle, eh) so I just took my time and just had a very friendly chit chat with them while showing them pins. Think their youngest took an especially big liking to me since he gave me a BIG hug just before leaving.
Another time, working on scrap booking, I helped a little girl make a card which she put her name on and everything. When Mom tells her it's time to go, she turns, gives me the card and says "Here, now you can remember me forever."
I still have that little card tacked up in my room.

Well my story is not unlike any other. I was in the RT position on the Micky & Friends Trams. we had just arrived at the structure. Now keep in mind that every spiel a CM gives can be different. I got off to say good bye to my guests and a family from farther up on the tram came back to greet me. Before anyone could say anything to me, the little girl from a car away takes off running to me like a bullit. I was so suprised! The only thing I could do was crouch down and catch her. :D: All she said was "Thank You!" I had a horrid day before this lovely moment. I don't even remember why it was a bad day. All I remember is this little girl. God What A Wounderful Feeling! To know you put that smile on a child or adults face. Now that is the real magic!

I was working in Pieces of Eight and this lady comes in with a little girl and two older boys. Of course the boys immediately pick up swords and start fighting. The little girl all dressed up in a pretty dress and hat and pearl jewelry runs after them and picks up a sword to join in. The mom says "You don't want that we're going to get you something from the princess store" The little girl in all her pretty clothes gives her mom this big grin and holds out her sword and says "But I'm a pirate Arrgh" It was one of the cutest things I've ever seen.
As long as kids like that are around, we can put up with anything.

so, i was working the fantasyland classics one day... and there was this cute little girl who had seen me through a few rotations...
she kept staring at me, and it was sort of freaking me out...
so, i end up at alice console... and low and behold, the little girl ends up getting into a caterpillar with her mom.
i chat with them while they're getting in... the little girl doesn't say a whole bunch... just sort of looks at me...
i say my themed phrase, and dispatch the car...
just in time to hear the little girl say "know what? you're pretty!"
...totally made my life. i would have loved to hit my station stop and go over and give her a hug... but that might have gotten me a safety...

I had the cutest little boy yesterday. I was working at Casey and saw a kid with a little Stitch stuffed animal. Whenever I see kids with Stitch I tell them to keep hold of him so he doesn't cause problems. So here's my conversation with him:
Me: Make sure you keep a tight hold of Stitch, cause if he got loose he'd love to destroy all those little houses down there (I point to Agrabah so he knows what I'm talking about)
boy: It's alright cause Stitch is good now.
Me: Well, as of today, Stitch has a glitch. (I get blank stares from whole family) Today there's a new movie out, Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch. I haven't seen it yet but he might be bad again.
boy: oh, okay.
At that point their train is there so they get on, I continue doing my thing, their train gets back and his mom comes over and says he wants to tell me something:
Me: What is it?
boy: Stitch got away, but he came back
Me: (in a very worried tone) Oh No, did he destroy anything?
boy: No, but he ate a house. (I don't know how eating a house is not destroying it, but that's what he said)
Me: (again, worried and slightly shocked tone) Oh No, who's house was it?
boy: Snow White's
Me: (again with the tone) Oh No, what's she going to do now?
boy: She still has a house.
Me: (lose the tone cause now I'm just confused) But I thought you said Stitch ate her house.
boy: yeah
Me: So, where's she going to live?
boy: With the dwarves.
Me: Oh
Then he left, but that whole interaction was so cute and exactly why I work here, I mean that boy believed everything I said about Stitch and believed that I believed it too, unlike most adults he probably encounters.

I was working the Tower gift shop one night and I was kinda making my rounds as the store was rather dead, and I see this 'family' of four; a grandmother, mother, and two little girls about two years apart. I kneel down (Just picture that...me...over 6ft. kneeling down...in a skirt...) and start talking to the girls, the older of whom was obviously shaken after the ride but had that emphatic "Let's go again!" attitude. I look to the younger girl, and she's clutching at the mother, bawling into her shoulder.
Me: "What's wrong?"
Little Girl: *Sniffle*
Me: "You weren't scared were you?"
LG: *nods*
Me: "But look, you survived! Gimme five!"
I held out my hands to both the girls, and got a huge grin from the older one, and a shy smile from the younger, but I was thrilled when she returned the action, tears gone.
Me: "Look on the bright side, you were so brave to go on it this once, you never, ever, have to do it again."
At this point, the grandmother says something along the lines of me making such a good consierge, to which I wanted to cry. But then I have to go over to the image counter because they needed the help, and the small family follows to purchase their 'proof' that they made it. I didn't get to help them, but when they leave, the two little girls, possibly at their grand/mother's prompting, turn to me and say, "Bye [LostMalfoy]." I was about ready to break down right there...they were the cutest little girls.

When you are the waxer (on Matterhorn), you have to get up really early in the morning and clean the 2 to 3 sleds 3 hours before park opening. Well this happened to be an early entry day so I was still waxing when guests are coming in the park. This sucks because everyone and their mother-in-law has to chime in and make the stupid comments like, "you missed a spot" and "they must be wiping the blood off." (something you really don't want to tell the waxer because we use acid and sometimes I want to spray them in the face with it) Anywas, the sleds are coming in with guests and all of the sudden, "Your doing a good job," says this faint child voice. I thought that was so nice of the child to say that and smiled at him and thanked him. I should have let them go again but I was too tired and wasn't thinking (acid and getting up at 4am does that). One child, made my whole day.

Being in entertainment has allowed me to have a lot of special interactions with kids, and especially ones with kids who come down to WDW with Give Kids the World. Here's my two favorites...
One day, I went to check my new schedule for the next week, and I saw that I had the GKtW village on my schedule. Two full-timers near by told me how lucky I was, and no matter how many people tried to change shifts with me, to keep it that it would be an experience that I would remember for the rest of my life. They weren't kidding!! I was out as Pluto's best friend...
We had a little girl and her parents come up to get a hug and a picture. I got to spend some time playing with the little girl and what not as they were the only ones around for a while. The little girl gave me a big and dad took her into the building to meet Mickey and Minnie. Before mom went in, she came and gave me a big hug. I gave her a big hug and a Pluto lick, and she almost started crying me and thanking me. She said that she was so grateful for characters and all that we do for the kids. That we absolutely make their world. She went on to tell me that the little girl that i had just seen was so excited to come, but that her brother was supposed to also come, but that he had passed away before he could make it down. (They apparently had 2 terminal children.) She said that this was all that her little girl wanted, and that the wonderful people that they have met is what keeps her and her husband going. She gave me another big hug and thank you and went to join her husband and left me in tears in my costume.
This last one was actually on one of my last sets on my last day in my college program. I was Friar Tuck and I was with Robin Hood. (two characters who unless you're English, most people skip...) Well, it was right at the end of our set, we were starting to go in, (we were running around Towne Square playing the whole set) and a mom was about to stop us to see her little girl when the little girl shook her head no, and said to let us go in. (okay... that already made me like this little girl... :-)) Well, we turned around to see her in a wheel chair wearing her special pink button. We of course signaled no, and that we wanted to see her. We talked in the way that characters talked to the little girl, played with her, signed her book, and had about a 10 minute interaction before we went in. The little girl gave us a HUGE hug and smile before we left... It was one of my most memorable and last interactions when I left the park...
I know that these don't sound as special as some... but they definitely left me loving those kids and everything that they have a very special place in my heart. :-)

Actually yesterday it was the parent who made the magic for me. I was Lead in Store Command and the mother and 4 little ones come up to me and want to buy the Buzz Walkie Talkies. I rang them up, and I heard the mother say that these would make the kids really happy. I said "Let me check and see if I have batteries for these"...and I had one, they need two. So I told the mother "If you can wait here a moment, I can get another from Star Trader." She said "I can go get them." I informed her that we don't sell 9v's, but the ones I can get her are free. So I booked it over to Star Trader, went to the back, and got the batteries...and went back to Store Command. When I got back to Store Command ready to put the batteries in, she noticed that they needed a screw driver. I rummaged through a drawer and found the screw driver, and after 5 or so minutes, I put the batteries in. The mother was extremely thankful which made it all worth while. It made her night a lot easier which I was happy to do. Treat me with respect, and I'll be happy to pull the strings I have to make you happy too!

Had another good one today. I was in training at the Wildlife Express Train, and I was the engineer of the "Green" train. As we're loading at one of the platforms, a child boards with his parents. I overheard him say he wanted to sit up towards the front, so that he could be closer to "Percy" (apparently, Percy is a green locomotive from the Thomas the Tank Engine stories).
As he was exiting, his mom was encouraging him to "Say goodbye to Percy". I asked the kid if he'd like to come in the cab and blow the whistle. His eyes lit up. I helped him step up, showed him where the whistle was, and watched him as he pushed the button to blow the whistle. I then told him to sit down in the engineer's seat, and face his parents so they could get a picture. But wait there's more! I gave him a magical moments certificate as a "Co-Engineer"
Well, the kid was thrilled, as were his parents. The mom told me that they spent nearly every weekend at their local railroad museum, and that the kid was absolutely fascinated with trains. Made my day, to see the smile on all of their faces.

I love reviving old threads...Anyway.
Saturday was one of the few awesome days on the parade route. I was standing over by the popcorn rope. (I am sure Polar knows exactly where I am talking about). A girl proceeded to ask me if the characters would be signing autographs during the parade. I said No because the characters would be too busy dancing to sign autographs but you can some times find the characters in such and such place.
She said "Oh...Can I have your autograph?" I was a bit surprised. I was in the CC costume (I can kind of understand the autograph in the mansion costume) and I said sure. So I knelt down took the book and pen. Asked her name and Wrote "Thanks for joining us on the Parade Route. Have a Disney Day. Stduck." Since this was the kind of book for pictures and Autographs her Mom asked if she could get my picture. I said of course and the girl gets up comes behind me gives me a hug as I look up at the camera. I wish I could get a copy of that picture. But that momment made my night.

Both of these have happened at Festival of the Lion King at DAK, but still wanted to share them.
I once had a little girl who was there on her birthday, and I offered to give her and her family VIP seating in the Giraffe section. After the show I was still out at the exit, and not having a particularly "Disney" day. I was thanking all the guests for coming and inviting them all back when the little girl came flying out the door, jumped up, and threw herself around my waist thanking me for giving her such a great birthday. Turns out she not only got to make the giraffe sound, but also got to be in the Magical Moment. Her and her family were all so thrilled giving me hugs and taking pictures with me.
My second child is one that I will honestly never forget. I was out front at photocell where a family approached me to see if there was anyway they could use the wheelchair cue. Their daughter was sick with a type of cancer, and was not able to be around large crowds because of the germs. I helped them as best as I could, but our show went 101 and they were not able to see that particular show. About an hour later I was going back into the theatre and happened to see them sitting in the front row of elephant. I asked if they had any problems getting through the wheelchair cue, and they stated that most of the cast members were quite rude to them. However, they thanked me for all the help I had given them. The little girl once again told me that she was sick and I told her that with all the help she has from her doctors that she would get better. Her mom was holding her, and she proceeded to blow me a kiss since she couldn't come give me a hug. I threw my hand into the air and grabbed the kiss pulling it into my heart. I think about that girl almost every day, and that is what keeps me going! :giraffe:

I'm not a CM but I live in Celebration, so my husband and I spend a lot of time at WDW. Sometimes we like to do silly things, like wear weird headgear, just to make like more interesting while we people-watch. Hubby has one of those headbands that make it look like a monorail is running through his head. We get lots of great comments about it from guests and CMs alike, but my favorite was one little boy in Adventureland. We had stopped to get ice cream at Sunshine Terrance and were sitting on a bench enjoying our snack. All of a sudden, a little boy comes running up to my husband, grabs him in a big hug, and yells, "If you're an airplane, I LOVE you!" We both nearly choked to death from laughing! Next time you see one of those hats, look closely and you'll see that it does, indeed, look like airplane wings. I've seen some cute kid antics in the park, but that kid took the cake.

Would much prefer the yapping of an inquisitive & fun child  than the constant complaining of an adult who won't listen. Most kids are way cool!
Totally agree! I have three kids now, and I could spend all day yapping with them and playing hot wheels crash em up and paint with water or sing along songs on Radio Disney (My kids can't get enough of that, cuz we get it over the DirecTV).
I have had my share of complaining adults being brought down by their kids. My favorite was one lady at KBF when it was raining and I worked in Camp Snoopy. Her daughter wanted just one more ride on the Timberline Twister kiddie coaster...and the mom says, "No, you'll be out in the rain (only sprinkling, really) and you'll get sick." and the little girl, maybe 4 or 5, says "But, MOM, I like being wet! I can have fun on the rollercoaster getting wetter, and it might go so fast it'll make me dry, and we'll BOTH be happy!"
I was there on my day off another time visiting my best friend at the store at Mystery Lodge...and this lady comes in, browsing, and buys a book and t-shirt. My buddy asks her how her day is going. This is in July, middle of the month, 90+ degrees...her kids have gone on BFR three times, and went in the line again, this is the fourth time in a row, they LOVE the waterfalls. She goes on to complain that the park was too crowded, the kids were ungrateful, they didn't want to do anything she and her husband wanted to do, just rollercoasters and fast, crazy rides, everything was SO expensive, they just wanted junk food and didn't want to sit down and eat proper...and the kicker..."If we had known Knott's was going to be this crowded, we would have gone to DISNEYLAND." HAHAHA! I was rollin' laughing inside...not so she could tell...I said I didn't want to seem forward, but that I was an employee, just had the day off that day...I asked her what ages her kids were..."15, 18 and 19" I suggested she give one of them a watch, split up and let the kids do what they want, while she and her husband could go ride the things they were interested in, catch some of the shows (this was last season for the Birdcage), and enjoy themselves. I told her that it was perfectly safe, we had AP'rs there who were as young as 10-12 yrs old that were left unsupervised by their parents YR. I told them to set up a meeting place for a few hours later, and see how things had gone. She came back to the store later and left a note with my friend thanking me for the idea and saying they had a wonderful time. Her kids had gone off and spent their money on getting a costumed photo taken for their parents, they got two copies of it, and there mom left me one. She said they were ALL getting APs that afternoon, and if I saw her kids, tell them I knew their mom...LOL...that incident reminded me that some parents who complain think their kids are monopolizing the trip, but they don't have any ideas what to do different...we as CMs need to think up ideas...but some parents of younger kids, like mine are 6, 3, and 1 1/2 and they allow their kids to dictate life at home then wonder why it should be different at DLR or DCA or any other park...I love it when parents take pics and stuff, and they are smiling too, cuz I know that parent is having just as much fun as their kids...while some parents, when their kids see characters and RUN to them like its the best minute of their life, for that kid, it IS and those are the moments when I love working in the biz...I try to take time to stop and offer to take a pic of the family together with the characters...and every time I do, I get thanked profusely...

Just the other night, I was in our collectibles location, part of the closing team, and we had just shut our doors. At this point we were just waiting for our last in-store guests to filter through and finish their shopping. The very last people in the store were a little boy and his father, the boy couldn't have been more than four. He starts asking all these questions because he sees the displays we have of the artist tables; that leads us to talking about our artist and the sketches our location sells when he finally asks me, "Can she draw me too? I'm a Disney character."
I just started laughing softly. It was so cute, and the way he said it even had his father amused. That one child had just made my entire day.
Today I had another cute kid incident. I was making my rounds and I stopped to ask a family if I could help them. Mom was staring at the park map kind of confused, dad was hat shopping, and the little girl was just sitting in her stroller. I had my pin lanyard on and started asking the little girl if she recognised any of the characters on my pins. I was giving mom ideas of where to take her little one that would be good for the whole family as they had never been to DCA before, and tried to get the little girl to play along. By the time we had finished talking, the girl (never did learn her name) wanted to keep 'playing' the little pin game with me, and gave her mom the angriest little face she could when told they had to keep moving.
I know it's been said before, but it's guests, and ultimately kids like that, that remind me why I love being a part of the magic at Disneyland.

LostMalfoy, I always love seeing you interact with children! You glow, give such a warm smile & are so interested in listening to each child. One of my first memories of you is kneeling to a child's level in your dress heels & long ToT skirt. Children certainly make my days Magical :) but kneeling to speak with them in heels....this is a balancing act I'd not wanna try :D: :o: Just thought I'd compliment you in public. You deserve accolades as a CM with fantastic children skills.

yup!! one time that i will always remember is when i was at the hub working parades. the parade was over and we were at the hub letting people know that they weren't gonna be able to sit there for the fireworks (back when we did the crossover). well i was just kinda standing around when i saw a family taking a picture near one of the little statues. so i go over there and offer to take the picture for them. they said thanks and that it would be great. so i did. after i took the picture the little boy, who looked about 5 or 6, runs up to me and gives me (actually my legs)a HUGE hug and says "i love you!". well that just made me melt! when he let go he said thank you and continued to talk to me about his day. it was sooo cute! he was sooo happy excited to be at disneyland. well when it was time for him to go he gave me another hug and said "i love you!" again! i couldn't stop smiling for the rest of my shift.

I have a moment that is just always going to stick with me. I was working on Pop 6 which is in NO. It was my first or second week working in the park and a little girl was with her mom and after I gave them their popcorn and drinks I bent down to say good bye to the little girl. As soon as I got down to say bye to her she kissed her palm then placed her palm on my cheek...everytime I think about this I glow...
Another one is because I work at the Frozen Lemonade stand right across from the Mansion I get to wear the Pirates costume...I have so many little kids that come up in pirates wear. I was wandering around the park for a bit before my shift trying to find my mom to give her lunch money when I had a small boy come up to me and ask me if I was a real pirate. I smiled down at him and struck a Peter Pan pose (Its my favorite pose to do in that costume!!) and said "Aye! I pirate I be. And who be ye?" Yeah I do Ren faire so I have the language down pat...anyway...He ran back to his mom at this point and his mom pulled out her camera and the little boy and his 4 brothers or friends were pushed back to me by the mom. They then proceded to crowd around me and took a picture. I bent down slightly and did my best pirate pose and told the kids to say Arrrgggghhhh!! As they ran off I remember them waving at me and calling out bye!
Got to love the magic!!!

This occured at WDW but is still a cute kid experience. I was eating breakfast with my mother at King Stefan's in the castle and there was a girl about 6 at the table next to us. Minnie Mouse dress, ears, shoes and socks. Adorable. I overheard her adults talking about how it was their last day and they needed a picture of the girl with Minnie. That's when I decided to butt in. I asked if they were going to watch parade and they said yes. I showed them on their map where to stand to see Minnie best. I told them that I worked with Minnie and helped her tie her bow on her head and I made sure her dress always looked pretty.
Leaving the restaurant I called staging, told them that I had the opportunity to make a child's day and I needed to be close to Minnie for parade. The look on the little girl's face alone when the float stopped and Minnie recognized her was priceless. Minnie danced with the girl and posed for a few pictures.
My mother was standing near the two adult women that were with the little girl and overheard them after the float started moving again. They obviously hadn't figured out the connection between me at breakfast and Minnie during parade. They allowed the magic to just stay magic.

My daughter and I were on a short trip to WDW after a most unfortunate event happened to us; sometimes only WDW can "make things all better." She and I took the Family Magic Tour our last morning and had the most wonderful time with our CM Tour Guide and the families whom had also signed up. Well, Peter Pan is her favorite--always has been, something I mentioned in passing to our Tour Guide. So when she met Peter Pan near the end of the tour...and then found out we were to accompany him to Mickey's PhilharMagic, well she was just walking on air.
During the attraction a number of 3-D jewels float past the audience...during the Aladdin scene, I believe. Peter Pan leaned over to Emily and asked which one was her favorite, and she replied, "the purple one." (...and then looked at me with the widest eyes, as if to say, "Peter Pan just spoke to me!") As the Tour was winding down and certificates were being distributed by our Tour Guide, Peter Pan called my daughter over by herself and pressed something in her palm, and said "Just for you, for still believing in me," before he and Wendy had to dart off.
Now that she's a little older (but still a teen), she understands the CM's role in making that magic happen--ever alert for opportunities to plus an already magical day. So, to all you CMs who never go "out of your way" to make our day special--because it's never out of your way, it's just what you do--thank you.

My first magical moment wasn't from a kid, susprisingly it was from an adult. A mom was visiting from out of state and came in to the Star Trader to buy light sabers for her two boys (thery were about 9-10). It was pretty slow in the store at that time. Part of being a sale host/ess is suggesting additional items to go with what they bought. I asked if she wanted batteries to go with the light sabers. She said that would be great, and I then asked if she would like them installed. She was so overwhellemed with my service and kindness, that she actually went to City Hall to put in a compelement about me. :D: She even asked to speak with my manger to say how great of a job I was doing and how helpful I had been. Her appreation mad me last throught the rest of my shift.
Not a true magical moment, but it sure made my day brighter (before helping her I was in a bad mood).

The other night (not the Pirate and Princess Party), I had this little girl who was dressed as Belle, and she was incredibly cute. Maybe five years old... Got on with her family at MK, all bright smiles... by the time we were at YC, she was dead to the world. I was going to give her a sticker, but I had to give it to her parents to give her later.
Then, Tuesday night, as I was walking into Crystal Palace with KidAtHeart, Zazu all else, we were walking to our table, when a little Cinderella walked by and called out to me, "Hi, bus driver!" So cool to have a little kid who's been on information overload from their trip to Disney World remember you the next day when you're not even in costume or anything remotely resembling your costume.
Yeah, the young princesses make a lot of magic for me. Turn me into a big ol' softy. The young pirates do to, but in a much different way.
Great, I just felt really old for a second. It passed.

I remember this one shift very vividly...i was working at napa one night and there is a table next to my station...very rarely to ppl get sat but this one family for some odd reason requested to sit there...it was 2 adults and 3 small kids all under the age of 7. the kids were all wide eyed watching and asking a million questions but for their desserts i let them pick the color fish they wanted and umbrellas and the whole deal. well on thier way out they each had me sign a menu for them..i was so honored to do thet but what almost made me cry was when each lil kid came over and hugged me and handed me a small piece of paper with small drawings expressing how much they liked the dessert i made them one of them even wrote " it was exlint"
I will never forget that day...

Well, today was an interesting day. While it wasn't a magical moment, it just about ran me off the road in shock and surprise. I had a twelve-year-old kid on the bus who was talking about his band, when he properly used an adverb, like the word "correctly", in a sentence where most would have said "correct". Please note, I don't remember the word he used, but I didn't hear the next stuff he said. I commented on that and apologized that I was not listening as I was marveling at his grasp of the English language, to which his mom replied, "You should have seen my face the day I brought him home from preschool at three years old and the teacher told me he had used the word "vanquished" properly.

I love this thread! Now I can brag a little :) LOL
Firstly, you should have seen the look on my daughter's dad's face when she properly used the word 'ludicrous" at the age of 3. He told her it was a bad word and never to use it again LOL. He was so freaked out that she had used it properly!
We've had so many cast members make magic for my daughter in the past when she was all dressed up in costume- I remember especially three years ago we had hopped from Epcot princess breakfast to the MK and she was dressed up as Jasmine and two girls in the college program came running up to her in Fantasyland and asked for her autograph. She was so stunned that she signed her own name and then said to me later "Do you think they were disappointed that I didn't sign Jasmine?"
This trip it was so fun to watch her as a pre-teen making a fuss over the younger princesses. Every single one she saw she would greet them by their proper 'princess' name and then ask where their coach/sebastian/prince was LOL whatever applied. The look that was most priceless was on the faces of the other parents, seeing one child create magic for another.
She also kept stickers that CM's had given her on previous trips- I didn't know this until we were in the MK- and she packed them in her waist-pack and if she saw a child crying or upset she would ask their mom if they could have a sticker. Brought tears to my eyes.
She got the attention back in spades too because she was dressed up as Hannah Montana one night for a big dinner out at Cali Grill and someone who was a guest in one of the CR gift shops began calling "Miss Montana! Miss Montana! I have your biggest fan right here!" this guy had a female friend in a wheelchair he was pushing, and the young woman admitted that she did in fact watch Hannah all the time. They asked my daughter, wig and all LOL to pose for pictures. It was a highlight of our trip.
I love it when guests make magic for other guests. We try to do it every trip, and we always remember the smiles. It's so much fun.
I got to give a tinkerbell dreams pin to a CM on this past trip- will tell the story if anyone's interested :) It was so much fun.

Since you insist :D
Okay, so when we checked in at the Poly, me all resplendant in my "BE UGLY" Ugly Betty T-shirt which I love and will wear until it falls off of my body and turns into a pile of dust (it gets laundered between wearings, no worries :D) a wonderful CM behind the front desk was watching as we got checked in, and I was so excited to be there and just yammering on about our dream was to go to WDW this year so our 'year of a million dreams' was already complete because we were there. Well after we finish checking in, the CM (who was not the one checking us in) says to me that he thought I had the real Disney spirit (awww) and he gave me a set of the Tink dreams pins- I almost cried I was so excited. I planned to wait a long time to give the 'one to give' one away, but it was only hours later on our first day that I ended up giving the pin away.
I had decided this would be the 'ice cream' tour of WDW this year and so my husband drives my wheelchair into the main street ice cream parlor.
We order, and there's a child standing behind us waiting with her mother, waiting for her dad to get back from the counter with her ice cream.
She was autistic and as soon as we finished ordering (and teasing back and forth with the CM at the register about her accent because she was from MA, where my husband grew up). While we're waiting for our ice cream, the father of the special needs child comes up to her from the counter with hers and she immediately went into full meltdown.
She was screaming, and her mother was trying to restrain her (she was about ten, not a small child) and even though the CM now had a line behind us, she said, 'wait, what's the matter?' the mother spoke very little english but it turned out that the child had wanted sprinkles on her ice cream- and even though they had them elsewhere in the MK, they didn't have them at the mainstreet parlor.
Well, the CM stopped her line and said "I'm sorry, I need to do something," and she called for the manager. When the manager came, she told her the problem and asked if someone could please go down to the candy shop and get some sprinkles.
The manager immediately went to get them while the CM at the register tried to communicate to the parents that they should hold on- and they told the child to wait, that they would get her sprinkles.
Well, we were just about to leave with our ice cream but I said to my husband, one minute, take me back to the CM's register a second.
I waited until she had finished helping the next guest and then I tugged on her sleeve. She turned around and looked at me and I was already holding the pin up. Before I even said a word, her eyes filled with tears, instantly.
I smiled at her and said "Because of the sprinkles." She was so emotional she just kind of held the pin to her heart and didn't say anything, just the tears in her eyes and she nodded. I said to my husband "Let's go!" and we hurried off into the afternoon sun (sunset would've been better, but it was still daylight LOL)
I won't ever forget her kindness and care for that one upset child even though she had a line- and I won't forget the look on her face when I gave her the pin. Was one of the highlights of my trip and I only wished I'd had a dozen more because there were so many wonderful CM's on our last trip I could've have easily given them all away.
I hope it was a magical moment for that special CM- one that she will remember for awhile or if somebody is mean to her. We appreciated her very much

That is the kind of spirit that makes Disney great! You were very nice to show the CM that she was APPRECIATED, and what a GREAT CM to just accept that the child with autism needed something, and she went to provide it- sounds like she had a lot of insight and compassion. :) You Too. :)

Good story! Honestly, it'd be better if you added some special effects, you know, like explosions, lasers and Big Wallaby sprinkling snow from the rafters, but I suppose it's pretty good as an independent story without the big Hollywood budget. ;)

I ventured into Fruity Drink Land for lunch today and something brought back this Create The Magic experience. We decided to try the Tiki Room one afternoon when the heat was rising. The room had maybe twenty people inside so we sat in the front row.
Just after we sat down a family with a baby and a boy about a year old came in and sat in the section next to us. The little boy immediately started pointing at one of the main characters so his mom picked him up for a closer look. He wanted that bird!
The CM announced the start of the show, the lights dimmed and off they went. The little boy stood transfixed the entire time. Every time a new show element started up, he was right there with them. We enjoyed watching him so much we had to go back later to see the show.

Until the conversation turned to me and special effects, I was reading MCP's posts, thinking to myself how great it is that that is a normal part of the day. That what is magical to our guests is the status quo to us... or at least, should be. Of course, on the same note, you have to present it in such way that it does not seem to the guest to be just another day at the Magic Kingdom.
MCP, did you ever get a name of the CM you gave the Pixie Dust pin to?

I have a similar story to MCPs. Durring my recent WDW stay (just back to work tonight) I was given a pair of these pins (no need to go into that story). I am not a pin collector so I held onto both pins for just the right moment. A couple of nights later I was talking to a family in the next campsite and found this was their first visit. Durring the conversation I discovered that the two young girls liked looking at the pin traders lanyards but were disappointed that they didn't have anything to begin trading with. So I promptly pulled the two pins from my pocket and handed one to each girl. They were literally jumping up and down with glee. When they went to the Halloween party later that night they insisted that they HAD to have the pins on their costumes.
Sometimes its easy to make magic just by being in the right place, at the right time, with the right props. :D:
Randy
BTW, BW, I searched for you all over the place but never found anyone who could point you out to me. I did hear from one of my neighbors that a driver (that I assume was you) was looking for someone with my camping setup the day before I arrived. Sorry to have missed you.

Thia happened to me a few years ago!! :D:
Have you ever had one of thoughts days that just make you do a complete 360. Well a few weeks ago, I was at point on, I think level 3. Well, we will fairly consistently have people who will fully ignore you or feel like they are the only people who are privileged, and should get the closest spot. Nevertheless, I digress. This man in his SUV swerves around me after I had just told him that the south side of the structure was closed due to the fact that we had just finished Re-Parking it. It annoyed me but that is nothing new I hollered at him to at lest slow down. About 15-20 min pass by and this men and little boy walk up to me. The little boy was no older than 5. He was cute as a button. The father looks me strait in the eye and says, “I’m sorry I sped around you. My son reminded me that it was wrong and that I should fallow the rules.” His son reminded him! This little boy, who is not yet old enough to go to elementary school, corrected his father. Wow! I was dumbfounded! In my 5+ years at DLR, I have never had that happen. I said “thank you.” With this stupid confused, look on my face. LOL I just kept looking back and forth from dad to son. The father had taken the time to walk all the way from the front to the back of the structure just to set a good example for his son. I was very impressed with the gesture.
It made my day but threw me for a big loop.

Today at work, I had this SG cheer family. Clueless mom and Deer caught in the head lights daughter. The park invested in some nice napkin dispencers like Knott's has. I watched the mom take out 20 napkids and grabbed a few in the container and left the others scattered out infront of the guests in back of her. I don't get this and a said, we don't do that here and requested her to take them with her because the guests did not want anything to do with the napkins on the counter. Mom through a hissy fit while through out the day her daughter tried knocking my cart from side to side. My lead did tell the mom and daughter to knock it off or the team that she belonged to would be notified. Security was informed and followed the SG family for a while. I did not have any more problems with them either.

If you were to grab the napkins and use them, but she decided to be rude and not use them. She did buy a turkey leg, chimi and a few drinks and 2 napkins are going to clean your messy hands up? Let me see that! 20 napkins went to waiste and no one wanted to pick up the napkins that were scattered in front of them. We are here to sell you food, not to clean up after you lazy messy folks. If there was only a way to get your clutter to stick to your clothes. Yes, then the parks would look much nicer and the CM's would be happier.

I worked at DLR as a College Program cast member in ODV and the kids were the ones who I loved! They'd always make my day just by wearing their little dresses and pirate hats.
I was working IC 5 (the ice cream cart by small world mall) and there was a little girl in a Snow White costume walking by to ride small world. I called out to her saying Hi, Snow White! She was about 4 or 5 yrs old and she stopped and looked at me, smiled and ran over to me and gave me a big hug and walked back to her mom.
That totally made my day!!
I had another little girl who was a pin trader and wanted to look at my lanyard. She didn't have any pins she wanted to trade for an Ariel pin I had, so just as she was about to walk away, I took it off my lanyard and handed it to her. Her eyes lit up and she gave me a huge hug, said thank you and proudly pinned it on her lanyard!
I don't work at DLR anymore, but I'll be in Orlando in May and I can't wait to make those magic moments and see the little excited kids!!:)

Turkey legs are $8
Sea World $9.50
Orange County Fair $10 deep fried
Why is it when a SG can't read and asks if you have HAM on the cart? I only see: Turkey leg $8, Corn-butter & salt or Chili-line $4.75, Chimichangas $5.50, big bag of chips $3 and asorted coke drinks- Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and Dasani Water. We also carry Fanta orange.
We do not have the following on the cart:
Ice cream, pickles, pretzels, churros, hot dogs, corn dogs, burgers, pepsi products, milk, beer, pre-cup lemonade cups, coffee, and ham legs.
The cart in Frontierland will be changing the design. I was told yesterday it will be turned into a tree house. That should be nice. When it rains, we will stay dry. The frozen lemonade slushies will be in there and fountain drinks. That is the plan in a year from now. :)

We do not have the following on the cart:
Ice cream, pickles, pretzels, churros, hot dogs, corn dogs, burgers, pepsi products, milk, beer, pre-cup lemonade cups, coffee, and ham legs.
:)
Because they are SG's...it's like no I don't have so and so, find another cart...

I suddenly have this great desire to see a hidden camera gag set up, where a "guest" goes up to a food cart, asks for a rack of lamb, and gets it. Of course, if anyone tries to order another, the cart is sold out... =^_^=

Wow ! I seem to remember paying 8.00 in December for one at Touluca Legs at DS.

The cart in Frontierland will be changing the design. I was told yesterday it will be turned into a tree house. That should be nice. When it rains, we will stay dry. The frozen lemonade slushies will be in there and fountain drinks. That is the plan in a year from now. :)
Could it be that you have your SGT username posted someplace prominent on the cart??
Frozen lemonade rocks ! I love how it forces you to slow down and take your time eating it. Our family shares one in Adventureland or at AK every trip. It even beats Dole Whip as my daughters fav. Too bad you can't serve the adult slushies they sell at the France pavilion at Epcot!

Not so keen on a beer float, but I have been known to eat ice cream and drink beer at the same meal. I think this works best for Dark beers.

I had to give a 2 year old with Autism a TB test a ways back-even my supervisor was freaked out thinking it would be very difficult, but as a matter of fact, everything went really well! He melted my heart afterward by calling me Momma-so sweet!(of course he knew I wasn't HIS Momma, just someone's;))

There is a restaurant in Emeryville - Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe - that serves this intense concoction called the Shakin' Jessie. It's a chocolate espresso Guinness milkshake and oh my GOD is it good.

I was at California Adventure on the 4th of July and after I left World of Color, I went to the Glow Fest at Hollywood Blvd.
I saw this tiny toddler just having a great time with the glow sticks and everything else with one of the CM selling the flashy . He also got a crowd surrounding him when he started to dance with one of the go-go dancers on the street. Everyone loved it.
There was also this one kid who was having a dance-off with the same person. That too was entertaining and everyone enjoyed that as well.

Last night I was out Greeting at the front of Plaza Inn, and there were two girls playing. One was running up the front steps when no other guests were entering down the left side of the porch down the stairs there and telling the other one,"You can't get me!" I watched for a couple moments, then when she went by I reached out and said"I got you, tag" and she giggled and continued on her circular route. I did it again... and she then got her friend into chasing her. I went inside, and got two Honorary Citizen of Disneyland buttons- one at a time for the girls. I also tagged the other little girl and both of the girls thanked me for their buttons.

This happened a few years back, in Florida (sorry) but it seems to fit in with the child/good feeling thing that has been displayed. I have read almost all the posts (about two hours worth) and I kept being reminded of this incident back in 2002.
My divorce had become final about 7 months previous to my making a re-find yourself road trip. I traveled from Vermont to the Keys with a couple of Disney stops in between.
Anyway, one day I found myself at the Kennedy Space Center. I had just gotten into the Imax theater that was showing the "Big Blue Marble" I think it was called. I sat next to a family that had just been on the "Big Red Boat" that at the time was a Disney Cruise. They had a little girl, I would say was about 4 or 5 and she was in the seat next to me. While we waited for the show to start I asked her what she had been doing and she told me all about the boat and how they were headed over to DisneyWorld and how she couldn't wait to get there. I don't know how many topics we covered but they were plentiful. Her parents kept telling her to stop bothering me and I just kept telling them that it was fine and we were having a nice chat.
It had been a pretty busy cruise and she told me that she was pretty tired but that she would be better as soon as she got to see Mickey. Well, the movie started and within 5 minutes she was leaning against my arm, sound asleep. It was wonderful. It brought back so many memories of my girls when they were little and how they would do that same thing. For the first time in a long time I felt good but a little melancholy.
She slept through the entire movie and my arm was stiff from her leaning against it but I wouldn't have complained for anything. As we were leaving her parents apologized for her and I said...please don't worry about it, it was a nice feeling to have a small child trust me enough to just fall asleep. I also thanked her parents for letting her do that. I represented no threat and I guess somehow they sensed that.
Anyway, they went their way and I went mine. A couple of days later I was in the Magic Kingdom and who do I run into but that same family. I was so pleased when the little girl ran up to me and hugged me and told me that she hoped that she would see me again at Mickeys house. I, of course, asked if she got to visit with Mickey and she said that she had and that she was no longer tired and it was fun.
It was a pretty rough time for me at that point...I missed my family. I missed my little girls who were all grown up by then and that little warm encounter with a stranger was what I needed to pick myself up and happily face the world again. Kids are a life defining thing. Some you'd like to throttle and others just make you feel so good.
She would be about 14 now and I sometimes wonder what happened after our little encounter. She was a smart little girl so I suspect that she is doing quite well.

Last Oct 2009, my sister and our best friend were at the Polynesian Resort.
We went down stairs to Captain Cooks. I was getting something to eat when our friend from childhood came over and mentioned that one our local sgts from the police station was here too.
I met him and his family and told them this was a yearly retreat we do. We had their family sitting with us and we gave them fun details on where to take the kids.
A few days later we AK Lodge and we found them at the snack bar. It was a great vacation. Hopefully I will run into some one again on my next trip.

I'm a future CM for WDW (sorry, I know this is on the DL forum) but I was at WDW in June and I met the sweetest little boy and his mother. Definitely made my night.
My roommates and I were at the MK, and it was downpouring for, oh, fifteen minutes? We ducked into Toontown and went to Mickey's house to hang out until the rain stopped. The rain let up, and we decided to go into the Judge's Tent and meet Mickey, since I'd never actually met the Head Mouse in Charge!
We got in line behind a lovely woman from England, and her young son (probably four or so?). We talked with them a little bit about the weather, and Mickey Mouse. They had been through the line already, but the son forgot to ask Mickey questions, like 'Why is their paint all over your kitchen?' Since my roommates and I had just come from Mickey's house, we played along with him. We talked all about the paint in the kitchen, and Mickey's shoes and his slippers. We spoke to the mother a little too. My roommates and I were literally the last people in line, and the mother and son were right in front of us, so we watched as he went to meet Minnie and Mickey again.
The little boy marched right up to Mickey and Minnie and started to ask them things, like "... Mickey... do you wear big slippers? Why is there paint in your kitchen? Did Donald spill it there?" And he's saying it all in a tiny little voice with a strong accent, and my roommates and I are silently cracking up. Finally, the mother is trying to rush her son along, as it was getting late and the Judge's Tent was closing. The little boy looked up at Minnie and this exchange happened:
Boy: Minnie... why do you have eyes?
Mum: Tell Minnie she has lovely eyes!
Boy: But Minnie, why... why do you have eyes?
They finished up and left, and my roommates and I met with Minnie and Mickey (Mickey gestured as if to say 'That little boy is a talker!'), took a few pictures, and left. We found the boy and his mother outside, with the boy in a stroller, playing with a plastic pirate sword. The fireworks show was going on, and the boy continued his chatty manner.
Boy: Does Mickey see the fireworks?
Me: I'm sure he and Minnie sit out in Minnie's garden to watch the fireworks together.
Boy: ... does... does Mickey go in the fireworks?
Roommate 1: I'm sure he goes outside to watch them.
Roommate 2: Do you like the fireworks? I think they're loud sometimes.
Boy: I'm not scared!
Roommate 2: No?
Boy: No, I'll fight the fireworks like a pirate!
My roommates still will look at each other and just bust out with, "Minnie... why do you have eyes? Does Mickey go in the fireworks?" with the accent and all. It was absolutely precious.

A few days ago, I was bussing tables at the Tomorrowland Terrace when I saw this family with twin boys sitting at a table. One of them asked the father how to pronounce my name as I was passing by and the father glimpsed at my nametag and told them how to pronounce it. The next time I came around to their table, both boys said hi and my name. It was pretty cute. :p:

Welcome to SGT, TiggerHappy. Please watch out for the safety spiel that is about to come, as it is delivered by a dragon that gets excited to see new people, and we haven't yet figured out how to turn off his breath. And, even if we did, it's kinda fun to watch the new people writhe.
Okay, I made that last part up.
Make sure you save the drinks for after the safety spiel, especially if they contain anything of a grown up nature. You will thank me later.

Today, I was visiting Princess Fantasy Faire and I was coming up to Ariel and I witness a little boy talking with Ariel. At the end, Ariel hugged the little boy and he gave her a kiss. It was a heart warming moment, but what happened next was the funniest thing, Ariel summoned the little boy over and kissed him on the cheek and the next thing I saw was that the boy was like, "Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww" with a disgunsted facial expression and proceeded to wipe Ariel's kiss from his cheek!! That was the "Awwwwwwwwwwwww" moment for me!!
