So they look at a map of Canada, they see that they're only seven provinces away, and decide it's a great weekend trip...never mind that it would take the entire weekend plus a day and a half for them to drive to BC (which is a beautiful plalce to visit, especially Vancouver Island). My sixth grade teacher had some friends from Ireland who were in South Carolina, thought they would drive to Oregon to visit her for a day or so, then head on back. When she asked them how many kilometers it was, that's when they caught on that Oregon is in no way close to South Carolina.

BRWombat, I am not surprised about those kind of questions being said here. I worked at the Calgary Airport area before and I ran into these sort of questions, too, during the peak summer months. And, to think, tourism to Canada as a whole is going down, according to the latest statistics, except Alberta. There were times, where I had to "calm down" some of them because they didn't get "the proper information." Even Canadian tourists can be more ignorant about their own country than international and American tourists. Except those who come to the province by car or bus, most of them come to Alberta by plane via Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal because they are "always the first stop", when they come to Canada. Tells you what some of us had to go through in this regard.
