A few weeks ago we had a guest who demanded to see our manager about his ECV. He claimed that he didn't know that he could take the ECV into atttractions and was thus not able to go on any attractions with his family until near the end of his day. Basically he was pissed off because he claimed he wasn't able to enjoy the park with his family and wanted a full refund for his ECV and park admission.
I had to go backstage when I heard this because i couldn't contain my laughter any more.

Oh i'm sure he enjoyed his day, nipping at everyone's heels that were in his way.
I'm a poet and didn't even know it.

I started this thread about 2 years ago and it died shortly after. But after a discussion on another thread I thought I'd bring it back. So anyone (Stores, Attractions, Foods, Custodial, whoever), please feel free use this thread to share ECV SGTs.
This is actually a stupid CM trick that resulted in ECV SGTs. We used to get so many complaints because the people in the phone room (aka City Hall/Guest Relations) would tell anyone who called DLR that we never ran out of ECVs. I had to explain to so many people the simple concept of limited supply. Sometimes I would go so far as to point out that it says in the guide map that "limited quantities of wheelchairs and ECVs are available" with an emphasis on LIMITED. Of course we always complained to City Hall and we still got those guest complaints.

I hate it when they come into my stores because they always run into the fixtures (which are all on wheels) and they hit them so hard that the fixtures move and the merchandise goes flying. Just last night I watched this lady in their personal ECV go burning through the Star Trader looking for the Star Tours exit. Her daughter was playing "Clean-up" behind her. Most of them think that they have the right-of-way because they have wheels. They also get mad because when they pull up to the counter, they can't reach the counter because of the front wheel. They get all frustrated and then they get snippy with us. Grrr to them!!!

I see that quite often. Most of them don't seem contrite about it either. They think their electric vehicle can squeeze into places it doesn't have the clearance for, in a store, and the fixtures on casters move out of their original positions. It is rather annoying. I'm just waiting for the day one of them runs over my foot. It's bound to happen sooner or later.

I forgot to mention this, but please do not use this thread to bash the disabled. Not all disabled guests are stupid ECV guests. I have had quite a few disabled guests complain to me about stupid ECV guests.
I can't say enough how much I hated ECV/WC fakers on days when we ran out of ECVs or even WCs and forced legitimately disabled and/or elderly guests to wait or go without an ECV or WC.
I've had my foot run over several times by ECVs, and I've also dropped them on my foot. Getting run over by the rear wheels hurts a lot more than by the front wheels. I almost had my shin bone broken on Christmas Day 2002 by someone who didn't know how to put it in reverse. She first hit my foot, stopped on my foot, then went forward again.

She came within inches of my left foot. I just stood amid the damage with a zoned out stare. Really thought there had ben an earthquake @ first. Finally went BOH & told stock. R, J, H, & Derrick came out not believing my story. They each went pale. I laughed so hard as R, H & Derrick were muttering swear words in Spanish. Took us hrs. to recover poor Hollywood. The ECVer saw the damage as she merrily drove into Boulevard & out the door. Not one word of apology nor asking if she should pay for broken items. Was truly an amazing SGT!

SRT_GB, don't think one of us on this site would ever post a negative abt the disabled. We have too much class & really care abt these guests. I'd rather have a store filled with disabled guests than one ECVer who feels the need to make everyone clear the isles. Many of them have a Mosses Complex. "Move, I'm parting the Red Sea."

I forgot to mention this, but please do not use this thread to bash the disabled. Not all disabled guests are stupid ECV guests. If I came across that way at all, then I apologize. I have had quite a few guests in ECV's who have been politeness itself, but every once in awhile, you get the oblivious guest. I have even heard one of the drivers of those things say they didn't know how to properly use the reverse... which bothered me quite frankly.

It was either before I came in for the night, or it was on one of my days off. Oddly, this is the first I've heard about it... And I was BOH that whole month... it was before I managed to change my preferences I guess. I suppose I could have also been in another location that night....

Merchandise management was a textbook case of "Whatever!", and refused to even let us speak to their cast members about the problems this caused.
Our final solution was to agree with the guests, then ask them for their "Exit Entry Pass". When they didn't have one, we directed them back to the merchandise location to get one.
When merchandise cast complained, we were just, "Whatever!" :cucumber:

Zazu, we use the exit ramp because our wheelchairs won't fit up the other ramp....what is this exit pass and how do we use it? I don't want to be a Stupid Guest! MJ loves the train!

The DL one has stairs for entrance and exit, and installing a ramp would be just plain impractical. We have to send guests who can't transfer from a WC/ECV to New Orleans Square or Tomorrowland if they want to ride the train. Our Main Street Station does have a small path from the top of the exit stairs to the entrance platform for disabled but ambulatory guests who choose to go up the exit stairs since they are less steep than the entrance stairs.

To all of you, as a former ECV, now Powerchair user, I apologize for the dorks who think it is okay to just thrash through a store where there might accidently be not enough clearance, or where they could just care less in any cirmumstance. I have been through main street stores DLR with my ECV and I KNOW that you guys worked to keep aisles clear and enough space for people to get through. All I can say is that with any luck at all the reason that they are in the mobility device "doesn't interfere with their lives  sorry, that wasnt nice. But I have met them.
AS an aside, I would LOVE to compliment the people who work in Disneyland Delivers, as I just got the 50th 6 CD collection. The service I got was just incredible. They had to call me to reget my credit card number, cause 1 number was missing, and they were so polite and friendly. Thanks you guys.

It was just our way of tossing the problem back onto the CMs who were causing the problem.
Any wheelchair that won't fit up the wheelchair ramp at Main Street Station is very unlikely to fit onto the train, either. In any case, for the duration of the construction, you *will not* be able to board the train there by coming up the exit ramp. Can't say about after the construction until we see what they change.
Just read what's in the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities, and if that doesn't work for you, find a CM -- preferably one who actually *works* on the same attraction.
BTW, I'm going to be working Sunday 7 Aug. Ask for me if you happen to be in the MK that day!

Hahaha!!!
Let us not forget... most guests that use ECV's aren't even disabled!!!!!!!!!
At River Belle, there were two ECV users (disabled in no way) who tried to squeeze into the queue. Needless to say, both of them got stuck in the curve, tangled in the chain, and yelling at me. They proceeded to easily get off the ECVs and rip them away and leave.

I once caught a kid STANDING on the ECV (cue theme from jackass) He almost plowed through me but i managed to stop him and told him to sit his butt down....
his excuse? "but I'm Cripple!!!!!!!!!!!"(to which his friends snickered)
yes, you heard it right. Now i could think of several things to say at this point but i chose to chicken out and say to the boy (who was obviously not 18) to get off. Another of the future inmates boarded the screaming metal death trap and the rode off into another area attempting to board a ride through the exit  Now, there were no parents around but he was one of 5 teenagers who were in the group of idiots. I obviously couldn't take the ECV from them but i took down their number and reported it to the manager at strollers. But honestly, who says something like that? I know we all have dealt with a guest trying to take advantage of the privilage but to be so rude? It just blows my mind. I hope the little prick was caught by security and was kicked out!
*(ps, if anyone took offense to that, i apologize. I was as insulted as you were)*

When a guest complains to us that ms station doesn't have a ramp, we inform them that the station is a "historical landmark" and we don't have approval to modify, we also direct them to any of the other three stations, all of which, at this point in time, are fully accessable. If their pursuant, we also inform them that the ADA only requires ramps at two out of the four stations, and that we're more than compliant. it's amusing.

I don't have a problem with places being handicapped accessible. However, what boggles my mind is that we (as an entire country) have decided to modify the entire infastructure..curbs, steps, etc to accomidate a wheelchair that is technologically 100 years in the past. With todays technology, robots, etc, it's not possible to mass market a wheel chair that can climb stairs?

There is one of them wheelchairs that raises up and down, goes in tight circles, and climbs stairs but its load is under 200 pounds. I seen it first about 5 years ago at innoventions in DL and it cost thousands of dollars. The problem is the weight limit makes it not good for us chubby hippos.

I have a question about that then. What if you added a raising platform on the end of the dock? You could make it so it could be removed as needed. It wouldn't be modifying the structure and would make guests happy. Or is that too logical?

I hear you there.Every week the city is cutting curbs, holding up traffic,so "somebody" in a wheelchair/ecv 'might' come by. Shit, years ago we "finally" got curbs and sidewalks in our neighborhood. Guess where almost everybody walks/rides? $3,500 down the shitter.
At least I can take it off my taxes "if" I ever sell my house.

Not sure what dock you are talking about.
The problem with the Disneyland Train Station is that one end has the bank, a narrow walk to the backstage area and bathrooms, the tracks, stroller/ECV rental area and then the main entrance for CMs and the kennel. No way can you put anything in that end. The other end has the City Hall, guest area, tracks and then the shop and package pick up area. No way to shove anythig in there like a elevator. Yep the only way would be to take out something and then change the bridge on one side to make it wide enough for guests in ECVS and idiot fencing.
I am lucky to be able to slowly get down but ouch cuss ouch cuss pant cuss.
A lot of Disneyland retro for disabled guests is that it is so packed with stuff that you cannot wedge anything else into an area.

The loading dock or platform at the train station. Where you get onto the train, that's what it's called. If Disney can make new attractions out of old ones, (Pooh, Honey, and Star Tours for example) then they can figure out how to make a raising platform work. :)

That is what I thought you meant but sometimes these threads go by so fast that you miss the discussion on something else. I will disagree on the train as I see no possibility. The rides are in areas that have some room and with pooh you just gut the building and put in the ride. Knotts did that with its Trolley ride, they ripped out the sets and put in dinosaurs. You could still see in the ceiling the old ride decor.

Seeing how Kingdom of the Dinosaurs has been replaced by a Johnny Rocket's, I wonder if that decor is still up there. But if I recall right, where KOD used to be, was originally the Knott's Bear-y Tales ride. Sigh....I can still smell the boysenberries, the amusing storyline....
