I recieved the weirdest question today at work. Two teenagers (a boy and girl) came up to me when I was in the tunnel at MK and asked me....
Guest (Boy): How many Mickey's do you have at the four parks
Me (signaling the index finger): Only one (smiling)
G(B): Really? Are you sure?
M: Yes, there is only one Mickey Mouse at all four Disney Parks. He hops around from Park to Park.
Guests (Boy and Girl) were smiling with faces of disbelief and left.
What is it with today's youth. The do not believe in the Disney Magic. I remember that the CM's that were my Traditions hosts (a year ago sunday) told the group about this infamous question. It took me a year to finally answer it!

What were guests doing in the tunnels?
No no no.... Sorry, I need to clarify. The tunnels meaning the two walkways underneath the traintracks that guests walk through to enter and exit or sometimes block other guests from doing either. I did not mean the famous Utilidor "tunnel".

Guest's can take a tour of the Utilidors. Personally, I think it's stupid. We spend all this time, money, and energy keeping up the show and then say: "Well, if you want to pay more you can see backstage."

I get similar questions about Mickey and even people who seem to be "in the know" appreate my answers. The usual one is about Toontown closing early for fireworks, my reason is not for safety reason (Firework fallout) but a very simple Disney reason. "Well Mickey's not there, he's getting ready for Fantasmic, you know pressing his robes, finding his clean gloves."

How do you get a backstage look of Disney? You buy a backstage park hopper? You pay a CM big money? ...?

BTW, last weekend at Disneyland, while I was in line for Splash Mountain, people behind me were talking about POTC. The daughter said, what ride was that? Parent: ride so and so
Daughter: Oh yes, that was SO FAKE!!!!
I replied: You mean there is something fake about Disneyland???
Of course it IS fake, but come on, you are at Disney, you have to believe in Disney Magic, and pretend it's real, it's so much more fun then!!
And of course there is just one Mickey!!!!
(OK, I admit, when Cinderella said to me "Hello princess" when I wanted a picture with her, I thought "be normal, smile for the picture, and don't talk to me as if I am a small kid". But I don't mind being a small kid around Mickey or Minnie, haha!)

Oh my God, I'll be 20 in 7 months and I totally freaked when I saw Chip & Dale. :D: I love Disney, it's one of the few places left on the planet you can act like a kid and no one cares.

I'm twice that -- at the time of this photo on the left that I use as my avatar, I was 38; I'm an attorney, married with two kids, two cars, and a mortgage. Yes I know all about CM's "working with" the characters. But when I encountered "Captain Mickey" in an otherwise empty passageway aboard the Disney Wonder, none of that mattered -- for a whole minute, I had Mickey Mouse all to myself!
I know it's corny, but the "magic" still gets to me at times. 2-1/2 years after that picture, I still smile about it.

I am 26, and last Sunday, I had character breakfast with Minnie Mouse, and ate Mickey waffles! I was so happy with the picture I could take with Minnie!
Last year I celebrated my 25th Bday at DLRP, with a character breakfast with Mickey, and I was so happy to get a Bday hug from him!
I love Disney, and the fact that you are allowed to be young again!

Cool! Another in the law field! :D: I'm the file manager at my firm, what sort of law do you practice?
But, I digress...

I celebrated my 7th birthday at MK, and my 8th at Epcot. We were going to hit MGM for my 9th, but I was very ill and in the hospital. But even in ICU I got a visit from Mickey Mouse! :D:

Mostly municipal law -- I work for a mid-sized Texas city, a Dallas suburb.
Incidentally, and getting more OT by the moment, one of my regular "opponent" attorneys is also a Disney fan. It makes for an enjoyable time dealing with him, when we're not haggling over the actual details of a case! Would that more lawyers were Mouse-inspired.

I hear ya! I work in an older firm, we've been in Anchorage for almost 40 years, and we represent a lot of big companies up here. The president and head shareholder of the firm, (who I'll call Mr. B, LOL!) is kind of a grumpy old man type, you know? [He's from Texas, too, imagine that!] He never really speaks to me, he signs my paycheck and that's as far as it goes.
After I got back from DLR, Mr. B comes up to me and says, "Heard ya went to Disneyland!" I was like, "That's right. It was very nice!" He goes, "Remind me to tell you about the time I got thrown out of Disneyland!" I couldn't imagine Mr. B, with his three piece Armani suit getting tossed out of Disneyland for any reason whatsoever. It turns out when he was in high school him and his buddies put on their own talent show at the Silver Dollar Saloon. :D:

OMG!!! LMAO!!! I had no idea!! I just assumed it was something that wasn't at DLR anymore! But I am 150% SURE he told me he got thrown out of the Silver Dollar Saloon. That is too funny. :D:

Or did he get thrown out of Knotts for being so, um, impaired that he thought he was a Disneyland??? :)

You know. I really have no idea whatsoever! He told me Disneyland, but, you know, he can be a bit flighty at times, so he might have forgotten where he was exactly!!! :D:

That's a cute idea. When the Mansion goes down I tell the guest "That Master Gracey is having a meeting with the ghosts and we're not sure how long it'll be till he's finished."

Back on topic. I've been asked many times in Adventureland "Are there different Aladdins, because he looks chubbier?"

My favorite in that with Mansion. Well right after we just started floating Leotta about 3 months later we had a problem with the projection for....THREE DAYS. So finally the lead tired of waiting for it to get fixed called us 101. So I am out front with another CM spieling we're down. His reason? "Madam Leotta has lost her head, we've turned all the lights on and are looking for it. Once she finds it we'll reopen."
I was laughing so hard I had to turn my back for 5 mins to regain my solomness.

LOL!! Oh that would be me but I couldn't turn away and laugh because I wouldn't be able to stop. Oh this one butler I work with is soo funny too.
The mansion was down because of a power outage. Well I'm just a guest hanging out waiting till they re-open and talking with greeter and end of the line greeter. Well I'm talking to a fellow maid and a guest comes up. The butler motioned he's got this and walked over to the guest.
Guest: Is the closed or something?
Butler: It is closed. (He said as if he were Prof. Snape)
Guest: Why? We came here just for that! Why is it closed?!
Butler: Because I knew you where coming? Or maybe because Master Gracey has left and the ghost have trashed the place? How should I know, I'm only a butler, sir.

sounds vaguely like Danger Bob (who I don't know all that well, but I did have the honor of meeting him once, and he was probably one of the MOST in-character cast I've ever met)

You want to know why kids and teens now a days dont get it?
Because if its doesn't have blood, guts, drugs, beer, sex, music that requires you to eat the microphone, pants that are worn at the ankles, piercings that equals an airport attendent who checks for metal objects nightmare, reality TV, ect. . .
They either don't care about it or they don't care about it.
Face it guys. The last two generations have been worthless Disney wise. I'm sad to say that I was born in 86 because I'm stuck in that generation (Though, people argue that I was really born in 77-79. . .I wasn't). Kids these days just don't get the purpose of Disney. They don't understand the mouse and they sure as hell will never understand the mastermind behind it all.
You want roller coasters and thrill rides you little bastards, go to universal, I doubt you could understand the concept behind theming and storylines. If its not fast, it's not worth it apparently.
Oh and one more thing, if you know the ride doesn't have loops, THEN DON'T ASK THE DAMN QUESTION! I had a little jerk get pissed off when I gave him a straight "No, it doesn't have loops" (at GMR). Don't want a real answer? THEN KEEP YOUR TRAP SHUT AND ENJOY THE RIDE, maybe you'll learn something, but I doubt it!
You want to know how many mickeys there are? As many as there are people enough in his height range to portray him! Happy? you magicless, unimaginative twit!

It's time for another Good Idea, Bad Idea
Good Idea:

In my mind & as I speak with guests - there is only one Mickey. Always has been. The "magic" will not change just because I have backstage access. Indy, great post! :star: Many props to you :) Take care Indy. Stay off the leg & heal your cap.

Actually, overhearing a little boy at Fantasmic firmly convinced me that there IS more than one Mickey. We were walking out, and he nervously asked his mom, "That was a stunt Mickey in that scary part, right?" She assured him that it was and that the real Mickey was fine. I'm glad that Mickey is protected by the stunt doubles. :D:
